Savard and the pink slip

Wow, how unfair is this. Fired only 4 games into the season, talk about a small sample size. The Blackhawks record was 1-2-1, really could have been much worse. The first loss, on the road by the way, was against a Rangers team which so far is one of the better teams in the league. The second was against the Capitols on the road, another team first in their division. The third game was an OTL which means the game could have gone either way. And the fourth was a win vs. the Coyotes.

Sure the home loss to Nashville is a tough one, but come on can you really blame the coach? I guess the Blackhawks went crazy-insane on hyping the team before the year, but you can't blame that on the coach. I also heard soupy isn't turning out to be worth the money it took to sign him away from the Sharks.

Regardless 4 games isn't near enough time to justify firing somebody. It looks like he possibly was on a short leash to begin with, so why even start the season with him? Poor form. Keep an eye on this team, I bet they struggle for a little while to begin the year being in such disarray. That said, look out for them to surge late.

Oh and since the trend is to post a poll and I'm one of those guys who follows everything everyone else does I have to add one right? You all going to jump off a cliff later? If so count me in.

Poll
So how pointless is this poll?
This is the most pointless poll in the history of pointless polls, or perhaps polls in general

hmm..huh?

did i start that poll posting trend? hmm…whatever, i’m just trying to get people to comment so we can get some life in this website. go to mccoveychronicles.com, it’s the san francisco giants sb nation page. during the regular season they had about 400 comments per post.

by all means continue it

nothin wrong with what you were doin man, just making it into a joke. The baseball pages on here seem to get a pretty good amount of action, I post some on red reporter they get 250-300 so yeah I agree the page needs more life. keep it up. Since I live on the west coast I catch a lot of giants games, maybe i should head over there sometime.

400? heh, get this: 1358 comments on the sbnation mariners site. holy hell thats a lot of comments.

wow

how do they have that many comments? the mariners suck! they were the worst team in baseball!

They’ve got some of the best writers on that site. Smart, funny, and knowledgeable. I’m not a Mariner fan, but I read that site everyday.

yeah

i discovered the site after I read the “rays are too stupid to know they’re in the playoffs” thread. sheer brilliance on that piece, I thought the quotes were real the whole time I was reading it.

Also, when it comes to statistical analysis, there are very few people as bright as them.

wait...

so your kid is a minor leaguer?

what happened to him, he posted some decent numbers in A ball. injury?

by sharks on Oct 17, 2008 9:06 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not my kid literally. At McCoveyChronicles a bunch of users have “adopted” players on the major league team or in the minors. David Quinowski is the guy I adopted. The neglectful part is that I didn’t really know what happened to him. I’ve since found out he got hurt, I believe he had Tommy John surgery. He was pretty solid though, a dude with a funky delivery that batters couldn’t pick up.

lol...funny

I was wondering what the heck neglectful was supposed to mean. Nice, I got a real good laugh at myself for getting tricked there.

yeah those are some solid numbers he had, A ball is no picnic, to get a 0.79 whip or a .160 BAA is fairly impressive. whats his fastball?

last question: So, why adopt players, do you win something if they make it, or is it just a pride contest?

by sharks on Oct 18, 2008 12:35 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

His fastball might hit 90, so he really doesn’t throw hard.

As for the reason, it’s just something fun to do. Theoretically, the person is supposed to defend their player against any criticisms, but that gets hard if you happen to have a hated player.

You can make it work

90 isnt bad if you got a guy who’s deceptive/hides the ball well/has good control/etc.

I see now its not just minor league players

I don’t think his firing was fair, really. Four games isn’t enough of a sample size to judge the performance of the team for any sport (except maybe football). Not to mention the Blackhawks won 40+ games under Savard for the first time in 7 years least season.

It never occurred to me that one man could play with the faith of 50 million.
