With a lack of time this weekend, I figured to just take a quick, fairly nonchalant look at the productivity of Dan Boyle and Brian Campbell this season:

Goals: Boyle 4, Campbell 2

Assists: Boyle 10, Campbell 7

Plus/Minus: Boyle +8, Campbell +5

Corsi Number*: Boyle 20.5, Campbell 13.9

Time On Ice (5 vs 5): Boyle  23:55, Campbell  25:41

*Corsi number is the number of shots directed towards the net while the player is on the ice. The number can be broken down into whose net the shots are directed towards their own net (-) and their opponent's net (+). It is similar to the plus minus statistic, except it measures shots and not goals.

Boyle seems to be outperforming Campbell in just about every area other than time on ice, which can be attributed to the better depth San Jose has at the blueline when compared to Chicago. But on the same end of the stick, that benefits Boyle- a higher scoring team will obviously yield better personal statistics.

Looking at intangibles and drawing upon personal observation, it's pretty safe to say the Sharks are in a better position to win games with Boyle. A Stanley Cup ring, better shot from the blueline, and team chemistry give him the nod.

Add in the fact he's not tied up in an eight year deal worth $7.14 M per and you've got me sold.

Prediction: Sharks win 3-1. Goals by Boyle (x2) and Patty.

Go Sharks.

That'll Cheech You

Any way you could wrangle up Boyle and Campbell’s SER for the sake of this fairly half arsed look at the numbers?

It’s been a long weekend……

Well that was quick

Milan puts one home off a Joe Pavelski faceoff win.

Speaking of camera angles- anyone else notice the Canadian feeds (CBC for example) have the camera behind the benches? Opposed to the American feeds that are facing the benches.

I think that’s based on the architecture of the building, not the broadcast.

How about that hit by Murray?

Reminds me of the one Bernie Nichols put on Sean Donovan about a million years ago…only Donovan had to crawl off the ice

I suppose

Using Bernie Nichols and Sharks in the same sentence dates me

If anyone knows

where I can find video of that hit, I’d love to have it. I’ve searched YouTube and can’t find it.

This one might come down to the wire.

I agree

Hawks can fly out there- exciting to watch both of the teams skate.

Campbell

Has looked good tonight on the power play- excellent pass to Kane to put the Hawks up by one.

Anyone know when Nabby will be back?

And why are we being outshot so much?

by The Golden One on Nov 16, 2008 5:41 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I’m assuming we’ll see him against the Caps. McLellan & Co. probably didnt want to push him on this road trip- give him more time to rehab etc.

Especially with Boucher playing well enough to get us wins.

Not happy

with Bouch tonite. Can’t quite understand why he’s out of position so often

by Dave Valentine on Nov 16, 2008 5:59 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Maybe

he’s trying to hard to compensate for the lack of backchecking

by Dave Valentine on Nov 16, 2008 5:59 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

BTW

Boyle’s SER : 5.59
Campbell’s SER: 3.56

*SER is much lower for D-MEN untill I add more categories.

Doesn't matter

in the end how you do it…just get the 2 pts
