On The Forecheck

If anyone needs reminding of the larceny that occurred last time these two teams played, by all means indulge yourself. Just a warning- it's not exactly the best way to get your week started.

So what's happened since then? Dan Ellis picked up an award for NHL player of the week, and the Sharks have managed to absolutely turn around their stagnant power play. All these factors should make for an excellent tilt tonight.

Join us after the jump for a related Youtubular and tonight's open thread.

[Editor's Note]: Remember your SPG Picks- if you haven't signed up yet, join the fun.

Star-divide

Now you're probably wondering why I included an Irish love song into tonight's game thread. A solid question, and yet the answer is quite simple. To me, the Muppets rendition of this classic song represents what was probably sung in Nashville following the Sharks 4-3 loss; unintelligible ramblings* (which may or may not be due to some sort of beverage consumption) about goaltender Dan Ellis mixed in with tears of false joy. Tears that will never be able to lift the first round pain that permeates the air of Nashville like an achy-breakey-hearted Country song. At least they practice what they preach.

* Although The Forechecker's brain could beat my brain in a no-holds barred cage match any day.

Prediction: Sharks win 4-2. Goals by Michalek, Cheech, Ehrhoff, and Grier. Do I dare guarantee this one? Yes, but only after taking out an insurance policy over at State Farm Insurance. No harm in covering my rear like a newly incarcerated inmate.

Go Sharks.

I hope Dan Ellis trips over the national anthem singin’/standin’ rug and can’t play tonight.

If that happens – It’ll be the second time this year a goalie on my fantasy team suffers that fate.

Yes – I’m aware that my fantasy team sucks.

SPG Picks

I’m already in first place, after just one day! Just so you know, there is no shame in giving up. My lead is insurmountable.

Forechecker Has A Few Fin Facts
1. Team captain Patrick Marleau "can undress out of his hockey gear in a team-low 45-seconds." I’ll take their word for it, thanks.
2. Defenseman Alexei Semenov’s favorite activity "is looking online at luxury and sports cars," or at least that’s what he tells the wife.
3. Devin Setoguchi comes from Taber, Alberta, which "is known for its tasty corn." Too bad Indianapolis doesn’t have an NHL franchise, Devin, you’d love it there…
4. Jonathan Cheechoo dropped five pounds over the offseason. So really, I’m just balancing him (and a couple other guys) out in the whole scheme of things.
5. Doug Murray is "a managing partner of UberTap, a hands-free, three-spouted keg tapping system." Sharks management, please cut this guy, so he can focus on what is clearly an urgent social mission.

David Pollak as well

Per WTC:

QUICK UPDATE FROM THE SKATE: Don’t expect to see Mike Grier in the lineup tonight as he didn’t take part in an optional practice. And I’d be surprised if Brian Boucher were not in the nets again; Thomas Greiss was one of the last players to leave the ice, a pretty good sign he’s not the starter. Evgeni Nabokov did skate again and said afterward that he thought his recovery took a big leap forward.

Not too much in the way of scoring chances for either squad.

What worries me is the angle he took into the net- head down and waist up. I’m watching the replay again and it seems like he took the brunt of the impact square on the head.

Send a little thought out for him.

Fear The Fin: Where the second round is overrated.

by Mr. Plank on Nov 17, 2008 5:58 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

yea definitely thoughts go out to him right now. i watched it again too and he hit the bottom of the goal where its all sturdy metal. lets hope its more precautionary that they brought out the stretcher.

Wasn't happy at all

with the first half of the period. We were getting beat out on the boards and taking alot more hits that we were giving. 2nd half much better. Like mentioned, grinding work by Shelly’s line and Joe was doing some good work too.

I’m with ya Dave- that Tootoo run at Joe Pavs really got the guys going.

Speaking of getting guys going, Thornton has been playing with a helluva edge the last two games.

Seriously. Why can’t he just choose one mode, amazing or awful, instead of switching back and forth? My vote is for amazing.

Spread around in general, but with a couple players (ie Gooch, Patty) carrying the big time goal scoring load. Need to have those go to guys come playoff time.

this has been the worst officiated game so far this season. How can you call a slash on Roenick and let some of that other shit slide? These guys suck. I actually don’t know…but I’m betting Koharski is on the ice.

Do we need to send anyone down? Right now we’re carrying 3 goalies, so Greiss will go back down once Nabby is back. I realize the timing doesn’t match up, but I don’t think anyone that is currently on the team will need to go anywhere.

Wkipedia...

Icing in ice hockey occurs when a player shoots the puck across at least two red lines, the opposing team’s goal line being the last. When icing occurs, a linesman stops play. Play is resumed with a faceoff in the defending zone of the team that committed the infraction.

Is generally found on the top of cake, although can occur on cupcakes.
