Grier Fined $1,000
Per Sportsnet:
San Jose's Mike Grier has escaped suspension for his hit on Chicago's Aaron Johnson in the Sharks' 3-2 overtime victory Wednesday night, Sportsnet has learned.
Instead, Grier was fined $1,000 after he hit Johnson into the boards in the second period. Johnson remained on the ice for several minutes before leaving the game. Grier was given a five-minute boarding major and a game misconduct.
I explained my reasoning as to why I though Grier should get a three game suspension in the San Jose-Chicago wrap up comments, and still stand by that assertion. That being said, I'm not complaining.
Chime in again if you feel it's necessary. After this weekend (Dallas and Phoenix back to back) I doubt we'll be talking about it.
No word on the severity of Johnson's injury, but I assume he'll be day to day.

Looks like he's either suffered a traumatic brain injury or is on drugs
Since this is the NHL, either of those is quite possible.

You might be right- after all, the NHL considers anabolic steroids drugs ;)
Nice to have you stop by PT.

Not sure how I feel about this...
On the one hand, I’m happy to have Grier in our lineup, especially for our penalty kill. On the other, a “penalty” this light doesn’t exactly discourage similar behavior across the league.
Here’s hoping Johnson gets well soon.
hrmp
I’m not terribly happy about the non-action here, either. I thought it should be a couple games, and still do. The NHL is so inconsistent, and this is another case of that. I’d prefer the Sharks stay clean, and that was not. No blemishes on the karma, guys!
