Setoguchi Write In Ballot For All-Star Game

As James Mirtle noted, the NHL All Star balloting will begin on November 12th. Current Sharks players include Dan Boyle, Rob Blake, Evgeni Nabokov, Joe Thornton, and Patrick Marleau. Voting will begin on November 12th at vote.nhl.com (which is currently a broken link- blame it on Bettman!).

However, Devin Setoguchi is suspiciously omitted. The Battle of California has mobilized the troops to get him onto the All-Star ballot.

Apathy ain't attractive. Get to the polls people.

For all interested, Earl makes a case for non-voting here.

I don’t know. He’s a quality player for the sharks no doubt he can tear through D like no one else but I don’t think he’s all-star. A few more years and I think he’ll be a better candidate as a vet.

Why?

We are 10-15 games into the season (depending on team)…

How is an All-Star vote even slightly legitimate at this point? It makes no sense at all. Give me half a season to see what goes on. This is just a silly popularity contest.

It would be nice for Patty to prove once and for all that he is the fastest mofo out there, though. I’m still seeing trails form his performance against Detroit. The dude has jets!!!

You’re not alone squid. Per James Mirtle:

There are a lot of goofy ones in there, starting with Rick DiPietro, Marty Biron and Marty Turco, none of whom should be anywhere near the all-star game this season. If someone wanted to start another Vote For Rory campaign, they could start right there.

Ryan Whitney and Sergei Gonchar have yet to play a game, but are on the list. Trent Hunter from the Islanders sneaks in on the ballot after a hot start, and is joined by a number of forwards having a tough time to this point in the season. Brian Rolston, Martin Brodeur and Marian Gaborik are listed despite being out with injurires.

Who’s missing? No Teemu Selanne, no Duncan Keith, no Tim Thomas or Mike Smith, and no Jeff Carter. Filip Kuba has 12 points in 11 games and isn’t among the defencemen, nor are Christian Ehrhoff or Keith Ballard. Nikolai Khabibulin should also probably get some consideration in goal.

Patrick Sharp, with 16 points, Corey Perry, with 15, and J.P. Dumont, with 14, are the highest-scoring players not on the list.

Patrick Marleau doesn’t get nearly enough attention across the league, especially considering his defensive ability.

Pavelski & Perry

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Guch. But I’d just as soon write in Pavelski. He’s been playing like a mad man. And it makes me cringe to say this, but Corey Perry really should be on the ballot. If I saw him and Getzlaf in an alley, I’d run them both over because I hate the Ducks that much, but you gotta admit … they’re both All-Star worthy … which just makes me hate them even more.
