Sean Avery is an idiot...
I understand the whole "instigator" thing, but do it on the ice man. This is just plain silly.

You’d think he’d learn to shut his mouth with the way things are going.

If I was Avery, I’d be afraid of my own teammates coming after me. Modano was pissed off before, I wonder what he’ll say about this one.
Maybe Modano will just be happy that Avery is off the ice, as he’s leading the NHL in PIM.

Well
since he probably won’t get attention on the ice (look at the stars, the dallas stars that is), he has to make up something to be the center of attention.

I don’t like this suspension one bit. I expect some time in the future, because of rulings like this, that I’ll have to hear a between-period interview with a player’s lawyer instead of the player himself. It will probably be a prepared statement, also.
Dangerous road we’re treading down, league.

I agree.
While distasteful, I didn’t find Avery’s comments offensive. They especially did not strike me as suspension worthy. It would have also been a crap load of fun to watch Phaneuf chasing Avery around the ice all night long.

I’m not sure the suspension was warrented, but it was a stupid move to do it on camera. The league had to do something about it though. Imagine the headlines if they didn’t. A fine was probably the better option, but considering who said it, I’m not surprised they decided to suspend him until they can have a chat with him.

Yup, I felt the same way.

Guess I know...
… what to put in Keeping Tabs this week. Just when you thought the Stars couldn’t stoop any lower, Vogue’s most famous intern single-handedly drops the bar to below sea level.

The biggest irony...
is that the only professional team sport to allow for fighting actually thinks they have a moral ground to stand on in this matter.
On a conspiritorial note – I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if the NHL thinks the publicity from this (think of the Extra! / Access Hollywood connection!) is actually a good thing.

he's an idiot
you just shouldn’t do that. that was just stupid. don’t tell the media, keep it to yourself. he shouldn’t get suspended, whether he was talking about his ex-girl and or boyfriend, his parents, teammates or friends. i’d say that school doesn’t suspend you for that, but serra is pretty strict with that, so i wouldn’t be surprised if he got suspended.

I don't agree with the league's decision to suspend him...
But it was a stupid, classless thing to say. We already know he’s an idiot… he should have to play the game an pay the price for his comments.

I still don't get how you get suspended for something like that.
It doesn’t seem offensive in any way to me, it’s just dumb.
