Analysis? You're looking for analysis? Here's a quip for you:
"Just flat out they were better in every situation. We can come down off of our perch and everybody can look at each other and realize that we've still got some work to do."
There's nothing more to say about this one folks. Sharks either come out and perform, or they lay another turd against a top-ranked team. Black or white. Yin or yang. Jekyll or Hyde. Cash or bounced check.
[Editor's Note]: Remember your SPG Picks for a chance to win a Sharks Banner courtesy of Carrol's Cove.
Chicken Little is not in the building. The sky isn't falling, season's aren't crumbling. All we need to see is a sixty minute performance, something to re-establish an identity that took a massive pounding this week. The two points tonight don't matter. Quality shots on net and a ferocious forecheck is what we're looking for. The home record doesn't mean a damn thing. A consistent breakout and defensive responsibility carries more weight than a good-looking stat.
Throw out the wins, the losses, the boos and the cheers. Sixty minutes.
Let the first true test of the year begin.
Prediction: Sharks win 4-1. Goals by Thornton, Marleau, Cheechoo, and McGinn. Don Henley makes an appearance at HP Pavilion, only to be sent home empty-handed. Nothing's gonna change, things aren't getting strange.
Go Sharks.
[Update 2:32 PM] Michalek is out, Kaspar sent down to Worcester. H/T to Section 223 for his usual heads-up.
On a Kaspar note- I'm not surprised, and frankly think he could be trade bait either at the deadline or the upcoming draft. We're looking ahead here, but he hasn't shown me anything in his limited time in San Jose. A number one draft pickin 2004 could yield some good return if we package him with another player. Just a little food for thought.

I’ll take the Sharks 4-2, to spoil the California sweep by the Rangers. Vlasic gets a hat-trick, and Nabokov scores on an empty net (while shorthanded). There will be an earthquake at some point during the second period, and there will be two stoppages of play for broken glass (both unrelated to the earthquake).
hmm
mr. plank is predicting pizza in our future. but as usual i disagree with his picks as little joe pavelski brings us home.
Just a reminder, Mr. Plank...
You’re on tonight again. I’ll be back for the Dec. 23rd game.
Fear the Fin: Because our day jobs are overrated.
But I will not be using a stream tonight, because I will be enjoying the game in person
"Gotta suck for the other teams. You finally catch the Sharks on an off night and you still lose." -Shark Man
Not sure yet,
but Pollak usually updates his blog sometime before the game and tells who will or won’t play.
Yeah, I won't be online that late today
I’m heading out early for the ‘tallica show, so I was hoping to update the SPG before then. Not like it will matter much; the fall from my lofty perch all the way up there in 8th place has been quick and ugly. Guess I’ll go with the Patty and Gooch Show.
SPG,
is just a crapshoot really, you can get lucky and hit the jackpot, I like to stay away from the variance that goes on though and stick with a pretty consistent lineup that can bring in points on a consistent basis.
Yeah, I know I should do that
You and I are tied, and you did it in a lot fewer games!
And I’m too optimistic to use the “Will not happen” option during regulation
(Glad there’s no money on the line, or I might take this more seriously…)
I got pretty lucky in the O.T. game,
I had Boyle with the shootout shot and goal, like I said a lot of it is still luck no matter how you slice it.
I was considering doing WNH for the Red Wings game the other night but had too big of an ego to do that, I would’ve killed on SPG though, hell I’d rather have the Sharks win though.
Thanks for the update 223. If I work on gameday (which has been the case the last couple times), you always come through in the clutch.

Milan
"He won’t go tonight, but he’s feeling much better," Sharks Coach Todd McLellan said after a morning skate in which Michalek did not participate.
I went back and reviewed the apparent hits that caused the upper body injury keeping Michalek out of action. In the first, he was slightly bent over along the boards, protecting the puck, when Blue Jackets defenseman Marc Methot. He got up and continued playing, but eight seconds later he was more or less shoved to the ice by Michael Peca. The first hit certainly looks like the one that caused the damage.
I really wasn't that surprised,
we are going to live and die with nabby, pulling him at 3-0 in the third doesn’t really get us anywhere, only causing controversy in my opinion.
Kaspar...
My thoughts are that this was a good decision to send him down. I think that McGinn has played the best of the three and Cavanagh has played the second best, Kaspar hasn’t totally impressed me so far, but there is still plenty of time. Anyone else have any thoughts?
I agree
with the comments on both Kaspar and not pulling Nabby.
Kaspar just hasn’t seemed (to me) to be working hard enough in the corners.
And even though we were down 3-0 after two the other night, I think there was every reason to believe we could come out in the third just like we started the first. Coming back from that 3-0 deficit wasn’t beyond the realm of possibility at all.

Agreements abound on all of this.
I had faith in the third too.Our first two shifts looked really good, then it sort of tailed off. After Detroit made it 4-0 I started writing the recap. Dark days.
Fear The Fin: Where The Second Round Is Overrated
Ka$par down huh...
I’ll admit I have a hard time with the numbers still, so I won’t comment on how I see him, everyone however seems to be in agreement though, go back kid and learn some of that good ol NHL work ethic.
but a part of me dies when I cant drop $$ signs in other players names :(
I bet we lost
cuz I wasn’t here. But I think that was the best thing to happen besides winning.
The Sharks wont win the Stanley Cup without competition, and this was the first game that the were completely destroyed, which will make them work harder in the future. Better that it happened a couple days ago than in April or May when they won’t be able to bounce back.
Don’t get me wrong though, that was extremely painful to watch. And I am so happy there is a game today than in a couple days. I didn’t want that game to be the freshest in my mind for a week :(
Let me clarify
my statement on Kaspar. I said he didn’t seem to be working hard enough in the corners. Actually it’s much more than that. He just seemed to be getting out worked, and consequently either beaten to the puck or out of possession of it. I don’t think it’s his size, or necessarily his desire. Perhaps it’s learning where to be in body positioning, maybe it’s just learning to push his game up from AHL to NHL. I don’t know. But it’s something he needs to work on.
Sorry Guys....
I’ll be at the tank tonight. Try not to burn the site down.
Fear the Fin: Where my signature is not the same as Mr. Plank's signature.
I'm predicting a Setoguchi Goal...
Here’s some tony.psd mojo to get it going.

Fear the Fin: Where my signature is not the same as Mr. Plank's signature.
this post inspired me
to pick setoguchi across the board in SPG, also reminded me to do it in the first place

Awesome game to go too
except that their was this ranger fan who kept yelling out (the words made no sense, “SKATE SKATE SKATE, WITH THE PUCK”), but I think he just wanted to let people know he was a ranger fan
"Gotta suck for the other teams. You finally catch the Sharks on an off night and you still lose." -Shark Man
Wow
That third period was like a 20 minute penalty kill. Nabby really pulled out the win for them in the end. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen Joe Thornton that flat-out tired.
All-in-all, it was a solid effort by a team that was completely gassed after the second period. Nothing like Thursday’s game (thank goodness).
Hmmm...
The first time in 3 meetings that I don’t see the Sharks take on the Rangers, and our boys break their 6-meet losing streak.
You know what this means – I am barred from MSG and all HPP matchups. For the betterment of mankind… esp. that stevens8204 fellow (welcome – but be forewarned that we will get our first win at the Rock on February 15… because I won’t be there this time either ;-) ).
