It feels like the Sharks haven't played in three weeks. I am not on my game. Dustin (aka Mr. K) is sidelined with the flu and may not be doing a game recap.
All in all, shit's hitting the fan. But at least it smells nicer than your grandmother's house*.
* Ill-advised joke, dude.
So what do you do when that extra cup of hard apple cider looks more appealing than your keyboard? Throw out a little table filled with numbers. Let them do the talking.
This is what the Sharks have done their first game after the 25th of December the last four years:
| Year | Opp. | Dec. | PP | PK | Shot Dif. | PIM |
| 07-08 | LAK | W, 3-2 | 0% | 60% | 0 | 24 |
| 06-07 | ANA | L, 3-4 | 16.6% | 100% | -9 | 13 |
| 05-06 | LAK | L, 3-4 | 40% | 66.6% | -5 | 23 |
| 03-04 | LAK | W, 5-0 | 25% | 100% | +1 | 29 |
Have fun with that useless information folks. Oh, and expect a lot of penalty minutes?
Prediction: Sharks win 4-3. Goals by Michalek (is he even playing), Roenick (he sure isn't), Mitchell (strike two) and Mark Bell (this post is pathetic).
Go Sharks.

"Gotta suck for the other teams. You finally catch the Sharks on an off night and you still lose." -Shark Man
Antagonistic poem by St. Louis fan stuck in Chicago (found on the Blues' blog)
It was two days after Christmas and on the way to the rink,
the San Jose Sharks had some time to think.
With Christmas all done and in Sheraton beds,
visions of beaches had danced in their heads. When they arrived in St. Louis the weather was great,
‘Is this rain?" Blake exclaimed. "God, I hate this state!"Secure in a win, they took practice too light,
unaware that the Blues were ready to fight.
The game was a bloodbath and Cheechoo was purée,
when Cam Janssen came at him with some Eureka-fury.
’A left hook, a right hook, a shot to the head!’
John Kelly announce, as Cheechoo lay dead.
The Blues began flying and scoring at will,
and Legace stoned them with a performance that thrilled.
when the final horn sounded, the crowd was amused,
as the top Western team was lit up by the Blues.
6-2 read the scoreboard and the Sharks were a mess,
as they boarded their plane and headed back West.
so while I wait for my train, all sad for my plight, I say,
‘Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and to all a Good Night!’
Funny – though I couldn’t disagree more. Plus I always find it funny that people allude to beaches when it comes to San Jose… although by St. Louis standards, I guess we are pretty darn close.
Fear the Fin: Because our day jobs are overrated.
Yeah funny. But they are obviously dreaming. :)

The stockings are empty. The grandkids have returned home. Everyone within a 5 mile radius is or has been sick. The weather sucks so bad I think I’m in Seattle.
Let’s play some hockey!
The flu be damned...
I’m psyched for this game.
Proof – I’m in bed with my laptop resting on my gut, so I can join you cats while convalescing.
GO SHARKS.

Just a reminder
The Sharks have shutout the Blues 4 of the last 5 times they’ve been to the Scottrade Center.
BUT – do I need to remind anyone how close our last two meetings in San Jose were? Didn’t think so.

I was going to say...
I’m watching on CSN, and commenting on FTF (obviously) as well as St. Louis Game Time (our antagonist’s site). Drew Remenda just interviewed Marleau, and told him straight up that it didn’t look like Sharks hockey out there. Marleau demurred a bit, but hopefully the message sinks in with our captain. I say that despite his awesome effort later in the period (too bad his breakaway didn’t amount to a goal).
Fear the Fin: Because our day jobs are overrated.
Todd McLellan
Will probably be the head coach of the All-Star Game. Imagine his being able to direct both Sharks and Red Wings, while Claude Julien goes “Ah merde!”
Just heard Randy and Drew talking about it…
Plus, Todd can pick Sharks players to be on the lineup. Sweet…

In case anybody wants out of town scores...
The Bruins won today… a Sharks loss would mean we’d be just one point ahead of them (NOT GOOD).
Other bad news – Anaheim and Dallas are tied going into the third. Overtime is NOT our friend.
Now for good news – Colorado is up 2-0 against DETROIT. In the first period, though – lots of hockey left. At least they lost yesterday!

Boston fans, as you probably know (being a Pats fan)
Are a potent lot. I’m a Yankees fan, plus I was in the Big B while the NBA Finals were going on… not a good place to be wearing a Lakers hat (note – I am not a Lakers fan).
Just remember – the Bruins are now 2 points behind us in the league standings… that affects home ice come Stanley Cup time (there I go getting all proud and boastful).
Fear the Fin: Because our day jobs are overrated.
Proud and boastful
as you should be. I know it’ll be a rough ride, but I’ll be tough in my teal.
And if I actually go to the Buffalo game on that run, I know I wont be disappointed then (not that I’m implying anything)
on a side note, do you know what happened to McLellan’s face?
by KindaFantastic on Dec 27, 2008 8:42 PM PST up reply actions
No
WTF? I didn’t notice it – I blame the flu (how convenient!).
As for that Buffalo game – I would give both of my testicles to be at that game, because now I’m going to have to wait until 2010-11 (most likely) to see that matchup at the HSBC Arena. I was in Buffalo this summer, too, and longed for hockey season. When I saw the schedule, I cursed my brains out, realizing that it was the same day that I have to do a Valentines Day party in my class (not that those aren’t fun, but a road game in Buffalo? No contest!). In other words, no way I could get the day off.
BTW, I’m a bandwagon Sabres supporter… a VERY distant second to the Sharks, to the point that I don’t list it on my profile.
Fear the Fin: Because our day jobs are overrated.
I’ll see if I can take some pictures (not like that compares to actually being there…)
But yeah, McLellan looked like he had a busted lip or something. Which is never good
by KindaFantastic on Dec 27, 2008 9:00 PM PST up reply actions
Well
Considering we got CC, AJ, and Tex., yeah – it’s pretty darn nice right now.
The only tricky part is figuring out if I can make it back to New York this coming year to see the new stadium – I made it back there this summer (against Boston – 2-2 in the series). I’ll probably be busy traveling elsewhere… but where there’s a will, there’s a way…
At the very least, there’s the series in August in Oakland – count me there.
Fear the Fin: Because our day jobs are overrated.
I was
Born into it. That’s my loophole. Growing up, my house was a shrine to Mickey Mantle – my dad actually donated some of his items to a museum (not Cooperstown, but they would have been interested in his stuff if he advertised it more). One piece I’m particularly miffed about losing, er, donating to posterity – a Boys Life Magazine with Mickey Sr. and Jr. on the cover, mutually autographed, with “Our best wishes” added. Both father and son are now deceased, making that signed magazine probably one of a kind.

Oh it’s fun :) I’ve been to The Pond (Ducks), the Excel Center (Wild), Staples Center (Kings) and the Pepsi Center (Avalanche). you know those guys that you always yell at for wearing the opposing teams jersey to the game? That guy is you, and unfortunately, most crowds tend to be a little more boorish than the kind folks at HP Pavilion.
One of the experiences in Anaheim was probably my favorite. The Sharks clinched the division and I sat with a crowd of about 15 other Sharks fan. Good times :)
Fear The Fin: Where The Second Round Is Overrated
Exactly like Mr. Plank said
I’m envious he’s been to see the Wild, Kings, and Avs’ home bases – still haven’t been to those (I know – the Kings are relatively local). I was at the same Ducks game last season – I was not (sniff) invited to sit with Jason (double sniff, blows nose). Just kidding ;-P
Other experiences = New York Rangers (rough fans), New York Islanders (I hate that arena… fans ok though), New Jersey Devils (at their new arena in Newark – magnificent palace of a place, but deserted), Philadelphia Flyers (fans threatened to kill me in my Sharks throw-rug, than meant it when I called them “Broad Street Pansies”), Pittsburgh Penguins (great experience, though pricey), Phoenix Coyotes (free parking!), the aforementioned Anaheim Ducks, Florida Panthers (more free parking!), and the Tampa Bay Lightning (decent crowd considering the World Series was going on that night).
Upcoming – Vancouver Cancucks vs. Sharks on January 10. Jury still out on Feb. 28 in Montreal (probably a no). I was supposed to be at the game tonight and on Monday… good thing I cancelled, considering the flu (which is keeping me strangely awake and alert at 3am). :-)
Fear the Fin: Because our day jobs are overrated.
Went to Atlanta
Last season. I think there were as many Sharks fans as Thrashers. Most of us were sitting behind the Sharks bench. No one there was difficult to get along with. I got stopped on the main walk way several times by folks who used to live in the bay area.
All in all (Sharks won) a great experience. I did think that the crowd was generally not very knowledgable. Not ignorant. Very enthusiastic. Just didn’t know what was really happening
by Dave Valentine on Dec 28, 2008 7:54 AM PST up reply actions
Its pretty fun. I was lucky enough to go to the Chicago game this year, and the fans there were pretty gracious (mainly because we were in the club section; according to the people we were sitting with, if we sat up in the cheap seats, by the end of the second we would have had beer poured on us). There was some jeering and ribbing, but overall Chicago fans were pretty nice. They told us about the wonders of Kane and Toews, while my dad warned them about Murray and Setoguchi. Oh, and the national anthem there just gives you chills – everyone cheers and applauds the entire time. Its a great way to start the game.
Good Game
Tonight Sharks fans. Thanks to Mr. K. and ang666 for stopping by at the Blues digs at SLGT. It was fun shooting the breeze with you.
