Three PM. Really now.
The Minnesota Wild have been atrocious lately, going 3-9-1 in the month of December. Things don't get much worse than going first to worst in your division during the Holidays, but not everyone in Minnesota is letting the blizzard of losses get to them. SBN's own buddhafisch is winning at the game of life, so make sure to stop by and give him a hearty congratulations on his marriage plans for today.
A wedding at center ice? What a brilliant way to start the new year. Furthermore, it gives them all sorts of applicable terminology to use in the marital context. To cool down after an argument you could take a "five for fighting"; road trips can be called, well, "road trips"; the birth of a child a "free agent acquisition that changes the entire makeup of the team"; lovemaking can be preceded by sweet talk such as "going five-hole", "grinding in the corners", "banging on the forecheck", "driving the net" etc.
It's a whole world ripe with possibilities. Here's to the union we all hope goes on well past the first overtime. Congrats sir!
[Editor's Note]: Remember your SPG Picks for a chance to win a Sharks Banner courtesy of Carrol's Cove.

As for our own marriage (tumultuous at times, and yet ultimately fulfilling) the Sharks haven't been impressing me all that much compared to the beginning of the year. Alas, they are finding ways to win. I'm still convinced they need to improve their five on five play. The penalty kill is bound to hit a cold streak (21 straight kills), and once that occurs, the weak even strength play will be exposed. Make no mistake that Dallas dominated at even-strength all game, peppering a stellar Nabokov with ten more shots than the Sharks could muster.
It's going to be a long and frustrating 2009 if these trends continue. I married you for the person you were Sharkie- this new guy isn't grounds for a divorce, but it's concerning me. Let's nip this in the butt before it becomes an issue.
For now, it's time to enjoy the final game of a wonderful San Jose Sharks 2008 (well, post-May). Have fun in the thread, have a blast later tonight, and make sure to stop by for some Winter Classic action tomorrow.
Prediction: Sharks win a tough game 2-1. Goals by Blake, Thornton, and Semenov. I'll let you figure out why my math seems to be below a second grade level.
Go Sharks.

Other games today
Florida @ Islanders (I’m rooting for the worst team in the league)
Colorado @ Phoenix (hmmm… both teams tied in points, but CO has a game in hand… 7th place vs. 8th place… both teams chasing Anaheim… ok, I want a 3 point game)
Atlanta @ Carolina (yawn…)
New Jersey @ Dallas (C’MON DEVILS!!!)
Columbus @ Anaheim (C’MON B.J.S!!!)
Edmonton @ Calgary (BATTLE OF ALBERTA… I feel crappy having to choose… so I won’t)

Dude
Little rude, mattman. Being prepared for potential possibilities is never stupid – it’s strategy. If the circumstances change, then we adapt. Simple as that.
As it stands now, I want the Sharks to remain as the best team in the league. A loss today would put us one step closer to losing that title, even if it’s still tentative to the end of the season.
We always want our team to take each of the 60 on-ice minutes seriously – and I want them (and us) to take every one of the 82 regular season games seriously.

True
But the long season (which is almost halfway over) is a precursor to the war that is the playoffs. No harm in looking down the road and spying out where potential danger could lurk, should we survive long enough to meet an adversary in the Finals.
Danger spots – Detroit and Boston. Detroit was the obvious one, but imagine beating them and making it to the Finals, and having Boston be the ones to make us look like last year’s Patriots. I’d take another second round loss over that, thanks.
While being #1 in the entire NHL doesn’t affect us until the Stanley Cup Finals (and I’m not going to assume that we get there, but that IS everyone’s goal), it’s a pretty big asset. Considering the Sharks’ home record (18-0-2) and our road record (10-4-2), I’ll definitely want to be on home ice for the first two games of the series, to create the momentum.
As you said, a ton can change – but at the risk of sounding cocky, the West will probably come down to either San Jose or Detroit, and in the East, it looks solidly like Boston (and if Washington comes from behind to take their EC crown, then I’m even more scared).

There are no guarantees,
that is all I’m trying to say. Once the playoffs start anything can happen, whether it be winning the cup or losing first round. Teams can get hot and teams can get cold. I agree that it is essential to be on home ice. I hope you are right about the west because thats all we can ask for is a shot at it, as for the east I think it might be a bit more wide open than you say but we will see and nobody knows, I personally just don’t like to speculate as such.

And I really liked it. Great story, great movie.
However, I wouldn’t suggest going to it thinking that it is going to be an uplifting movie… They do a great job of showing how poor the quality of life in India is… I left feeling really depressed.
That being said, I thought it was a great movie. The acting in it (especially by the older characters) wasn’t great though. The story was just really strong.

Agreed on the acting
Though it was far from bad. The one exception – the guy who plays the game show host. I thought he was worthy of an Oscar-nod for supporting actor.
I’ve heard other people say it’s depressing on account of its depiction of life in shanty-town India – I like to think it’s encouraging what people are able to do with so little. Either way, we probably all seem condescending with our viewpoints… silly rich Westerners ;-)

I was so pissed last year at Nassau Colisseum
We were up 2-0 against the Islanders in New York – Nabby gets injured (his face), Greiss is put in for the remainder of the 2nd period, and we go into the third with the 2-0 lead intact (if I recall correctly). Nabby is back in – probably shouldn’t have been, since Greiss was doing fine – and BOOM. Islanders win 3-2. Worst part – the Islanders chant after every goal is “HEY – YOU SUCK!” Charming…

It's weird how the Sharks have gotten off to an incredible start,
and yet nobody (well most) nationally haven’t recognized it.

yep
You could say the same thing about the Bruins too. But I think that just shows how the NHL is not as popular as other sports.

the problem is
The Celtics also got off to a ridiculous start, stealing the spotlight (assuming the Sharks and Bruins records would have warranted extra coverage)
