[Open Thread] Game Seventy-Two: Edmonton Oilers at San Jose Sharks
Anyway, Los Tiburones are riding high wide and handsome right now atop an eleven game win streak, while the Oilers are playing out the string. The latter translates into a mix of kids playing to leave an impression for next year plus veterans playing to prove they still belong in the league, which can lead to some interesting scenarios. Hopefully the scenario will be San Jose exploiting Edmonton's errors of enthusiasm en route to a twelfth straight win.
Okay, let's drop the puck.

11:40, 1st Period
Some decent play by the sharks. We're outshooting them 10-1 right now. The dominant play we look for early is here. The sharks are playing hungry. A few nasty hits, and a few lapses on defense, but Nabby has been there for us. 0-0.

5:52, 1st Period
A couple of really, really nice chances at goal. We're getting the opportunities. It's only a matter of time before we score. I've got nothing bad to say about their play right now. Mad hustle. They are one of if not the strongest team in the league IMO, and if they just impose their will on these teams, they will win most times. 13 shots to 3 right now. Dominance.

2:05, 1st Period.
On a 5-3 Power play, Pavelski scores on some great passwork between him and Campbell! Beautiful work! We're still on a power play, and we're now up 1-0!

17:36, 2nd Period.
Quick note. We've seen the Sharks all to often mail it in in the second period, (even during this great run, we've seen some snoozer second periods.) I just wanted to point out that tonight, that is NOT the case! Credit the second line, because they have come out with some heat!

14:06, 2nd Period.
Edmonton scores on a power play goal from Hemsky. The sharks have had the pedal to the metal. You can't help but be a bit disappointed with the lack of the fruits of their labor. We're outshooting them 32-11 and it's knotted up at 1. Dwayne Roloson deserves a hell of a lot of credit. He's having a night.

2nd Intermission
This has been a lopsided game, but you'd never know it by the score. The Oilers are starting to get things together, and actually put pressure on the Sharks on the defensive end. It's going to be interesting to see if they have the testicular fortitude to pull this out. It seems to be the first sight of adversity that they've encountered in quite a bit.

16:03, 3rd Period
This is a hotly contested one. Both teams are showing they want it. Oilers are playing with speed. Roloson is making some circus saves. Nabby's on point. Some entertaining high tempo hockey being played here. Lets hope the Sharks can pull it out.

6:24, 3rd Period
The Sharks are on fire man. They are playing so well right now. The zone is theirs. I just hope they pull this one out before a shoot out. As entertaining as they are, they're sometimes disappointing. Shots on goal 43-18. We're talking total dominance. +25 and we can't take a lead. Roloson has played a gem tonight.

End of regulation.
Wow. A great last stand with about 4 shots on goal, all very well defended by the Oilers. I've got to tip my hat. They've played playoff quality hockey tonight, and it's a shame that they've gotten hurt so badly this year.
We've got a 4 on 3 power play, with about 35 seconds coming over from the end of the 3rd. Hopefully we can make something happen. Three late power plays, and we still couldn't put the game in the bag. D'oh! +28 on the shots on goal.
Power play wasted. Oilers at full strength at 4:23 in OT.

52.6, Overtime
Two breakaway chances saved beautifully by Roloson. This is getting ridiculous. What's it going to take for us to come up on top. It looks like this is going to be a shootout, which is such a shame. The Sharks have played a sharper, better game. I retract my statement about the Oilers playing playoff calibur hockey. It was wrong. Dwayne Roloson has played playoff calibur hockey tonight. Just him. We've dominated them and still we're going to shootout. What a shame.

Shootout.
Joe Pavelski to start it off. Another great glove save by Roloson. It looks like it's gonna be tough to score here.
Nilsson is up. Score. Oilers up one.
Jeremy Roenick is up. Brick. Oilers have a chance to win.
Gagner for the win here. Off of the pipe. Whooo, FSN counted it and my heart dropped. Sweet sassy molassy that was close.
Marleau to tie. AND HE SCORES! 1-1 BABY. Hempsky up next.
Hempsky for the win here. He shot it wide. Cheechoo's up next.
Cheechoo for the win. Miss. 1-1. Pisani.
Pisani for the win, he scores. Streak is over.

Thanks for the live blogging...
... I caught the first period, the last couple of minutes of the third, and all of overtime. Some thoughts on the game plus the rather unique setting in which I watched the game's conclusion tomorrow.
Can't wait.
It's no problem. Anyway I can help.
