Torrey Mitchell On Conditioning Assignment
A fairly busy week/weekend for me, so I'll let you guys do all the analysis.
Torrey Mitchell is expected to be in Worcester as soon as Friday, which is good news. We've covered his return fairly extensively already, but for the sake of summarizing, he's going to improve our already stellar PK and add a lot of depth that is going to be helpful down the stretch.
Think of him as a trade deadline pick-up and you see how much better this makes San Jose.
Go Sharks.

This is better than a trade deadline pick-up
Especially since Torrey has played with a large majority of the team all of last season, has watched the team play extensively and has had months of time learning and then practicing McLellan’s style of play. There are no possible chemistry issues, most other players have already played with him and his own style extensively, and he’s cheap.
Plus, you know, he’s awesome.

This is very good news.
This should be a huge boost to the offense and the PK. I’m looking forward to seeing how he does and how TM fits him into the lineup. Who loses their spot to make room for him? One of Staubitz, Cavanagh, or Joslin will have to go back to Worcester to make room on the roster. Do Shelley and Plihal start splitting ice time? If Joslin goes does Semenov sit and someone get bumped to the 4th line? This is a good problem to have.

In terms of Semenov, he’s not seeing an inch of ice time when JR gets back- there’s no need to throw a fourth line out there with no scoring ability (Staubitz, Semenov, Shelley).
I’ll put an update in the post what I see once Mitchell comes back. He’ll get fourth line minutes to start, and probably be stuck there the rest of the year assuming he doesn’t completely tear it up.
This is a good problem to have.
Why yes it is :)

Sorry Staubitz, I’ve taken a bit of a shine to you while you’ve been up with the club (stupid penalties notwithstanding), but your time is drawing to a close.

Torrey
Cant wait to see Torrey back on the ice. He’s got a natural talent (yep, my nephew) and he’s genuine, on and off the ice.

Noooooooo!!
Mitchell was injured in a game against the Hershey Bears. Leg injury, too, on the same leg he broke. Its not in the same place, which is good, but still. DP said he’ll have more tomorrow.
Why do the hockey gods hate Torrey? Is it because he’s too awesome with his short-handedness? Or is it just because they don’t want the Sharks to be even more kick-ass?
