Chicago Blackhawks and (wtf?) Florida Panthers to open 2009-2010 season in Prague
Read more about what Mr. Bettman is concocting HERE.
After reading that report (which comes from NHL.com), I just have to ask - why does NHL.com have to cite a newspaper as its source for the information? I mean, c'mon - they're the NHL, and they should have a good idea themselves of whether or not the games are going to happen in Prague. Can't they just ask the big guy upstairs?
But then again - they're the Bettman-run NHL. Guess they wanted to quote the Chicago Tribune to sound credible....

Anyone else think
That the NHL is considering moving the Panthers to Prague, should they ever go through with the plan to expand to Europe? Nothing like shopping your product…

I think NHL Europe is a long ways off, but you raise a good point. It’s not like the NHL is sending them there to show off it’s talent (/hearty laugh).

show off?
the rangers almost lost the victoria cup to metallurg from russia. apparantly they were like the euro 08 champions or something. they were LOSING 3-0. good thing they came back and won 4-3, or the nhl would’ve been humiliated, just like michigan and appalachain state.

Prague Panthers does have a nice ring to it
And I believe they want to send Florida because they have more Czechs on their roster than any other club. Five?

Wow, forgot about the non-Vokoun Czechs...
There are
1. Tomas Vokoun
2. Radek Dvorak
3. MIchael Frolik
4. Kamil Kreps
5. Rostislav Olesz
Additionally, Richard Zednik was born in Slovakia.

Oh don’t even go there with that “Also, Slovakia” stuff. Slovakians, those separatist mountain peasants, do not count.
-from a half-Czech guy who’s mostly* just kidding
*heck, completely kidding, considering Slovakia got its post-breakup economy in order while Czechia has, well, basically kept drinking beer (not that that’s a bad thing, just an unproductive thing).

Here’s one of my favorite pro-drinking sites if you’re interested.
I usually read it when I’m drunk; I like to consider that productive.

Haha
I’m also part-Czech, and I’ve been to both the Czech Republic and Slovakia (there I go bragging…). I bring up Zednik more to say that it would be easy for his family to travel to Prague from Slovakia… I’m reminded of Krist Novoselic’s family in Croatia being able to visit Slovenia (both countries being part of the old Yugoslavia) when Nirvana came to Ljubljana. How’s that for a geography lesson?

A healthy spelling lesson, too :)
Oh, I totally understood why you brought up Zednik.
There’s good-natured banter between the Czechs and Slovaks I know, and my unaffiliated friends (who don’t know the difference) like it when I act offended and make up grievances.
Nazdrovy!
