Boyle & Thornton Named To All-Star Team

As09_logo300_medium

Whoops, wrong league

The All-Star game is one of the low points in the year for me; I could generally care less about it, while most of my friends and a majority of you (if my comment-radar is correct) find it to be very exciting.

It's basically the only reason (gulp) I'm announcing this.

So congrats to Dan Boyle and Joe Thornton on the distinct honor of having to play in an extra game and do some side travel, while the likes of Patty Marleau and Devin Setoguchi stay at home to rest. We'll be keeping our eye on Big Joe and Danny Boy; something tells me this "weekend getaway" thing might be just what the doctor ordered.

The All-Star festivities will be held the weekend of January 24th in Montreal, Quebec.

I hate it because we’re not going to get any Sharks hockey for a week. I would like our boys to be recognized, but other than that I’m pretty indifferent.

Me Three

Other than the guys getting the recognition it really doesn’t mean much to me either. The actual game is a joke along with the voting.

I'm also indifferent

If there are moments worth catching, I’ll be sure to check youtube

Jumbo was almost a given, on name alone. Boyler has been snubbed in the past, so congrats on numero uno.

The rest of the guys can rest up and prepare for the final playoff push.

I’m pretty sure Seto is in the YoungStars game; when I read the press release for the new rookies vs sophomores format, I remember it saying “rookies such as [name here] will match up against sophomore players, like Devin Setoguchi.”

I used to care

But I don’t anymore.

Back in college, my friends and I would have killer ASG parties. We were the quiet ones in the dorm, but we would rock out that day/night. There is one photo from I think 1998 where my friends are posing and smiling and I’m flat out on the floor. All you can see are my legs peeking out behind them and the edge of my blue Toronto Maple Leafs #72 Mathieu Schneider jersey.* I’m not a drinker, so I have no idea what was wrong with me. And I have no recollection of that moment at all. But that remains my favorite party photo of me from college. (well, there is another one but I’m not going there. And hmm… I was wearing the jersey in that one too. Actually, no, I think I had it wrapped around my head.)

*That jersey was something of legend on campus. Out of habit (superstition?), I wore it to every final and midterm, and by the end of 4 years, my classmates would come up and rub it for good luck.

God I miss college. I guess that is why I still work at one.

I’m pretty meh about All-Star Games in general. Congrats to Boyle and Thornton, though.

It never occurred to me that one man could play with the faith of 50 million.

THAT SUCKS!

As good as the team is doing, you would think the whole West All-Star team should consist of ALL Sharks players!

But I agree w/ everyone that as much as being named an All-Star is an honor, you don’t need to play an extra game and risk getting hurt or not getting any rest for the rest for a playoff run!

Congrats to Thornton and Boyle anyways!

Geeez Louf*ckingweeez!!!

I’m happy for Boyle he deserves it and hasn’t gotten much recognition nationwide. Most everyone knows about the greatness of Jumbo Joe, but I am most upset about Marleau not making the All-Star team. In my opinion has been the best overall player on the team this year so far, especially after last years disaster.

I keep waiting

for Plank to tell us that his ‘comment radar’ needs calibrating. But, hey, only 8 of 10 post specifically panned the ASG

Damn thing never works right Valentine. Never.

I say we all get drunk and live blog about our personal lives on the 25th. Maybe Oprah would pick it up and FTF would finally get some cred with my mom.

That sounds like fun. Do I have to tell about my ex?

I thought that was required. And here I was going through my archived Facebook mini-feed to figure out who I’ve been dating the last six years.

Of course

that would eliminate half the FTF posters..at least from the ‘legal’ portion of get drunk an blog, since I think the majority are still in HS.

That could get entertaining.

Sharks play like they did last night again and it might happen sooner.

I'm indifferent

I find the skills competitions to be more interesting than the game itself. Hell, they could just let Ovechkin show off for an hour and I’d probably watch that.

Oh and keep your hands away from Jarkko Ruutu’s mouth.

No one is talking about Patty & Gooch being snubed?

How does Patty not go over Hejduk, Modano, Brown or Upchuck? I can see leaveing Gooch off because he needs to show he can preform at the same high level all year. But there is no excuse for not having Patty on the team.

Because every team needs to have at least one representitive

Factor that in, along with the starters, and that leaves only a couple of slots for the Sharks. As I mentioned, JT is almost a given based on star status and Boyle was due, after 11 years and at least three snubs.

A lot of really talented players were left off the list. But hey, that’s the NHL All*Star game for ya. And remember, Patty or Nabby may still get an invite, since we don’t know which Montreal bound All*Stars will suddenly become ‘ill’ or ‘injured’

Oh yea and congats to Big Joe and DB

Boyle and Webber should both be starting.
