If Dwayne Roloson isn't between the pipes tonight Craig MacTavish should be fired. It's as simple as that. For other MacTavish news, check out Urban Dictionary. Just about as solid as it comes.

This gameday preview will be short, as last night's Sharktistical Analysis about getting back on the horse should be able to quench your thirst. If not, you need to see a doctor. Indulging too much is deadly. Pace yourselves.

Finally, remember your SPG Picks to win a super-slick Sharks banner from our good friends over at Carroll's Cove (we emailed once so I might even consider them my best friends), and as always, completely ignore the prediction portion of gameday.

Prediction: Ahem....hey, is anybody here? Damn.

Go Sharks.

GO SHARKS!

and I might not be here tonight. It’s horrorfest weekend and will be sitting my ass watching horror shows tonight. Let’s hope tonight is a start of a win streak for the Sharks tho! :)

Ever get the feeling we are on a collision course with reality?

by ang6666 on Jan 9, 2009 8:31 AM PST reply actions

You realize, of course

That if it is the start a a winning streak (and one win is a start), that you must continue to do each game, what you did to start the streak?

Perhaps you wanna rethink missing the game to watch a horror movie. Hell, if you wanna see horrible, just rerun the first period of the last game.

Please don’t remind me! And the Flames game, I had to live thru that twice. Watching it, and then the next day when a friend (who is a Flames fan) was watching it a day late was sending me msgs with all his lovely comments. UGH! I would rather deal with nightmares than go thru any more “shoot me” games.

Just for the record

I’ll be on the flight to Seattle when the game starts – if I get a moment tonight, I’ll hit the boards before going to bed. Tomorrow – Vancouver! I should have a game wrap up by 1am.

May the Sharks beat Roloson AND crush D. Sedin, H. Sedin, and M. Sundin. GO SHARKS.

We absolutely need this win

this team is starting to slide down a very slippery slope and we need to win now or else i fear we may never get back.

my own outlook for the team’s future is that bleak. But, now is certainly the time to get things back on track. If for no other reason than to make sure TM is the head coach of the West in the ASG.

Semenov

is tough to fight against he just towers over everyone so nobody can really get a good punch in on him unless they are in close and usually when they get close that is when it turns into a wrestling match.

The somewhat similar line combinations are on for tonight:

Courtesy of WTC
Marleau-Thornton-Setoguchi
Michalek-Pavelski-Clowe
Grier-Goc-Cheechoo
Semenov-Plihal-Staubitz

Nabby will also be in net tonight for all you Bouch conspirators out there.
Patty on being left out of the All-Star Game:

"It’s just one of those things. I looked around the league — there’s some other guys like (Henrik) Zetterberg and (Marian) Hossa" who aren’t going," Marleau said. "That’s good company.

"It’s a nice honor, a nice little feather in the cap," he added, "but it’ll be nice to have four days with the family and the kid."

Finally, Shelley insisted that his “upper body injury” did not occur during his fight with boogard, but when he was checked behind the net

Fear The Fin: Where The Second Round Is Overrated

by Mr. Plank on Jan 9, 2009 6:46 PM PST up reply actions

Edmonton Oilers scouting report: Semenov
Plus: Semenov towers over the opposition with his imposing 6’6 frame. Skill-wise, Alexei surprised many last year with a stellar effort in the OHL, as he was rewarded for his efforts with the honour as the league’s top defenseman. Big, tough, aggressive, talented and inventive, Semenov has potential all-star written all over him. A bone-crunching open-ice hitter, Semenov earned a reputation as the junior version of Scott Stevens.

Minus: Semenov did his best to minimize on his weaknesses last year. He shot more and showed better offensive instincts on the ice. He has a hard shot, but will be required to quicken the release to transfer his goal-scoring prowess to the NHL level.

What to expect
: The Oilers have great blueline depth, so Alexei might develop further in the AHL. He will need a solid pre-season showing to stick with the big club.

Overall Grade: A-

The problem is

they removed the requirement for impeded progress. Darren Dreger hit on it back in November here. We’re on pace for a record number of hooking calls thanks to that one change. That’s not necessarily a good thing either since it’s been breaking up the flow of the game.
