Four games in and I have no idea what Sharks team will hit the ice tonight.
The first period and beginning of the second against Columbus was an example of how a hard forechecking team can expose the blueline of San Jose- the Sharks had a lot of trouble moving the puck up the ice on the breakout, and once they hit the neutral zone, didn't move their feet as well as I would have liked. It should be interesting to see if they can get things going for the full sixty minutes tonight against a Minnesota Wild team that will come in with the same gameplan as the Jackets. Forecheck hard, clog up the neutral zone, sit back and wait for mistakes....
Wait, what's that you say? Todd Richards is at the helm now and Admiral Ackbar is coaching in a state that prides itself on political corruption? Never thought I'd see the sequel to that movie.
The Wild have emulated the pre-season opener San Jose Sharks thus far this year, posting a paltry two goals at even strength while getting scored on eight times. As was the key to the game on Thursday, punishing Minnesota five on five will go a long ways towards getting two points in the standings column and help alleviate some concerns about San Jose's ability to beat teams without the powerplay. Something tells me Nabokov is going to have a good night as well- the Wild are going to be putting a lot of shots on net off the rush because that's what their system wants them to do, and Nabokov does a good job of redirecting rebounds into the corners when he can see them from the point. With the Wild new to this whole "offensive zone" thing, he should see a lot of easy saves and hopefully not have to resort to cross-checking rookie defenseman when he's mad about blown coverages.
In other news, Joe Ike has been let go from the San Jose Sharks organization. If you are dissatisfied with this decision, feel free to contact the San Jose Sharks via this contact page. In early September, his "Sharks on the power play" call was ranked in the top ten of things to look forward to this season by yours truly- it's a damn shame to see him go, and hopefully the situation can be rectified with some amicable complaints. Don't go in there spouting your head off and expect to get things done. You won't win any Nobel Peace Prizes like that.
Prediction: Sharks win 4-2. Goals by Marleau, Clowe, McGinn, and Blake. Blah blah blah, insert forced joke here- weekend gamedays are a bear to write.

He also talks about Jumbo, Heater, Patty and their play thus far.

I’m not litigious, but I’d at least press charges against the guy. (suing to have him cover medical costs is obviously also an option, but like I said, I’m not litigious and I’m not you so I can’t say it’s justified)

I mean, the past two years he’s definitely been turning on the jets more, but it’s not like he hadn’t skated in the speed skating competition at the ASG a few years ago.

Good game.
Missed the first period, but liked what I saw. Especially crashing the net after a shot on defense — there seemed to be far too little of that late last year. Also they moved the puck forward much better, no dilly-dallying in the neutral zone, hardly and dump and chase. And the speed is nice. Yeah, liked the speed.
Hell yes. Who needs a sixty minute effort when you can turn it on for forty? Hiyo!
Anyways, Demers, I love ya, but please cease and desist with those centering passes in the defensive zone. I’m too young to have high blood pressure. And McGinn- stay out of the box kid. I love ya, but fuck you’re averaging about 2 soft PIM’s a game.
Feel bad for those who had to take a dump at the second intermission. Marleau is my hero. I would babysit his kids for free. For free ya hear me? For free!
Good to see Clowe work his way to the front of the net on the (third?) goal, but he still needs to quit this whole halfboards thing. He’s got good hands in tight, and that’s what we’re paying him for. Speaking of which, thanks for earning your paycheck Nabby. Definitely deserved the first star tonight.
Pleased with the effort overall, but would like to see a better effort through sixty. It’s going to come with time of course as the boys are still getting used to one another, but scoring output has to be less spotty in my opinion.
Season’s younger than Mila Kunis in her first season on That 70’s Show. Let’s sweep the homestand on Monday.

Clearly it means that the Sharks and Wild are the same team and that we thereby get Clutterbuck, Burns, Koivu, Bouchard, Nolan, and Brodziak for free along with their best prospects. That’s how it works, right? We got their AHL coaches, developed them into NHL coaches and traded them back for all their good players, (without going over the salary cap by magic).
Game Observations
It was a good move by McLellan to double shift Marleau with the bottom two lines. He deserves to lead the forwards in ice time. He needs some strength on his wings, Clowe and McGinn could not sustain an attack, but props to McGinn for what I think was the Sharks best (and maybe first) big hit of the season. Clowe on the other hand needs to continue to do exactly what he did on Heatley’s goal, i.e. screen the goalie. His contract will be our worst if he continues to play like a 3rd or 4th line winger. And he could end up there if Pavelski and Mitchell return soon. He needs a goal more than anyone on the team.
P.S. How scary is Anaheim beating up on Boston and stealing a win from Philadelphia.
