While perusing stats...
I noticed that Evgeni Nabokov has the third most shots against and saves, which says a lot about how much he is doing to keep us in games despite the fact that he GAA and Sv% are not incredible (inflated by a few poor games, but in most wins he has been a large part).

Why can’t the people up North living in our “51st” state get over Heatley??? He was traded to San Jose. He’s not a Sen nor an Oiler, HE IS A SHARK!
The Oilers, as of right now, are playing well without Heatley. Maybe they should worry about their current roster instead of a roster that doesn’t exist.

Pavelski closing in, Pavelski fires, HE SCOOORES!! 5 games not enough! The Sharks have another date in the Lone Star State!

To make a fair comparison,
They should exclude any of the points (assists) that occurred with any combination of the three players.
Or..
Give Heatley a goal and an assist on his goal against the rangers since he did pass it to himself before scoring.
Or...
Just stop whining about it. I would rather have one player with the same quantified stats as three combined.

I still like the Thornton commercial a lot. Though the freeze frame on Pav’s face when they say ‘lousy detective’ is priceless.
I forgot about the Thornton commercial haha. The puppet was awesome, and Pavs look is priceless in that ad.

In other news
the Sharks’ site has updated photos for all the new guys in Sharks’ jerseys… Benn Ferriero’s picture kinda scares me. It’s not the cute, black-eye picture of past Torrey Mitchell acclaim – more like mug-shot, “I just got my ass-kicked in the back alley of a dive bar.”

Interesting note
When looking at the team roster Pavelski is listed as being on Injured Reserve, but Mitchell is not.

Hockey needs to get back to its roots by contracting the league and moving teams to Canada and the North East. Original Six fans and fans in the East stay true to their teams. In places like Carolina, Tampa, Phoenix, Anaheim, Los Angeles and San Jose, the fans are front-runners. Enough with the phony warm-weather cities; they don’t deserve teams.
-Kevin Cribaudo, Boston
Another one
Your NHL Preview article (It’s All About the Six, Oct. 5) captures the essence of Original Six hockey. Preexpansion hockey was a better game than what we have now, and the newer teams just don’t have the tradition and—as writer Michael Farber points out—the uniforms. With all due respect to the San Jose Sharks, if they’re playing the Montreal Canadiens in the Stanley Cup finals next June, I won’t be the only Boston fan who will be cheering on the Habs.

Point the first: Carolina, Tampa and Ahaheim have Cups to their credit, each won over Canadian opposition.
Point the second: Kevin is from Boston. His opinion is almost automatically wrong.
Point the third: Don’t “deserve” teams? Really? Really?. Yeah, you know how sometimes people are so wrong and in so many ways that you don’t even know where to begin? Yeah, that.
Point the fourth: Uniforms. Yes, I don’t like our current uniforms. I wish we had the old ones. But someone from BOSTON, they of the hideous alternate yellow baby bear jerseys, are calling the kettle black? Seriously, does anything worth anything come out of Boston?
Point the fifth: Any Bruins fan who roots for the Habs is an idiot, and has no sense of “tradition.”

Alternatively, just make the black armor jersey in Teal and in White, and I think we have a winner!

While we’re at it can we bring back home whites? I like the Black Armor jerseys, but wear that six nights a year (or whatever it was last season) and then just roll out the darks on the road.

No official reason, but a prevailing thought is that it was used to increase merchandise sales. It was around the time the NHL started using third jerseys, and since those are almost always dark, having your team wear them on the road didn’t breed an “attachment” to the product. By switching to home darks, fans were more likely to buy the third jersey.
Or so the story goes…

Kevin Gribaudo, Boston
He’s from Boston, we care what he thinks why exactly?
I’m sure Chicago’s numbers remained high in all those terrible years? Wait, they didn’t? Boston? yeah, they slumped too. The only really Shit team that’s kept their numbers is Toronto, but there isn’t any sense when it comes to Leafs fans.
It just bugged me,
that it got into Sports Illustrated magazine. You would think that they would put the good letters in but I guess not.
He's full of it anyway
Considering how strong our fan base is for the Sharks, even after all of our post season failures, I don’t think he has much of a case. I also think we had a fairly solid fan base dating back to the inception of the Sharks despite how horrible we were then.
Also considering how much their numbers and any team that consistently does poorly (aside from the Leafs and Canadiens) draw to home games, his case is baseless. Just more east coast idiots talking out of their asses.
They’re probably still bitter the Canes knocked them out of the playoffs last year.
They’re probably still bitter the Canes knocked them out of the playoffs last year.
That would be why he listed Carolina first in that sequence.

This guy sucks
Basically, he’s arguing that San Jose is not deserving of a team because we wouldn’t support our team unless they were “front-runners,” i.e. doing well in the standings (which they are, and which they have been since immediately before the lockout).
What’s ironic is that he’s the pot calling the kettle black - look at the attendance of Boston (where he’s from) in 2007, as well as that of Chicago. Compare that to last season, when the teams were both in the playoffs.
I’m admittedly thin-skinned about this sort of thing – the fans that think they have a birthright to hockey just because their mothers went into labor in the snow.

people are dumb. It’s not just letter writers. Eeeeevry hockey commentator goes on and no about how “when the original six teams are doing well, it’s great for the league”… why? The bias is dumb. I can’t wait to prove them all wrong forever
by a10dency2ask on Oct 21, 2009 5:13 PM PDT up reply actions
Just a hunch, but those original six teams are in big markets. If they’re doing well, it probably results in increased merchandise sales and higher priced advertising (bigger market = higher priced advertising). The league can then say, “League-wide, HRR (hockey related revenue) increased from last season.”
With revenue sharing this would theoretically trickle down, making it “great for the league.”
My guess though, is that commentors are just talking out of their asses and still consider the Original Six years as “the glory years” or some bullshit. There’s a lot of bias out there about California hockey, but I think we’re making big strides even if Kevin from Beantown still has his head in the sand.
Oh, that’s right Kevin. California fucking invented sand.
Fear The Fin: Where Selling Your Soul Is The Likely Solution
That is completely prejudiced, biased, and wrong. Even in the years where getting 20 wins was considered a good season, the Sharks have never had less than a 90% attendance record throughout their existence. Now, I’m not sure about this, but I believe the only other teams that can boast that statistic are the Leafs, Habs, Wild, and perhaps the Rangers. The former three places all have a deep hockey history, and the Rangers are located in a city with a population that’s over 21 times as big as the entire state of Wyoming.
Not only that, but according to that player survey I linked to in the FAQ, San Jose was voted to have the third most disruptive fans. Boston isn’t even in the top ten. Now, I know that the disruptivity of fans isn’t the best way to see which fanbase is the best, but it definitely contributes. People – players, broadcasters, visiting fans, and so on – often comment about how loud the Tank is. I’ve yet to hear anything about TD Banknorth Garden or whatever it’s called.
Yeah, we have warm weather most of the year, and yeah, it doesn’t snow in San Jose proper (but just try and stop it from falling on the Santa Cruz Mountains), but that doesn’t mean shit, except that we have to pay a hell of a lot more money for housing because of it. People here like to watch hockey, just the same as those back in the Northeast. Actually, we probably like hockey more, because it’s that much harder to get into and support the sport around here.
Oh, and you know what? I think personal computers need to get back to its roots, and should stop shipping anywhere but California, since people here are the only ones that can appreciate computers and technology, because we invented it, right? Enough with the phony computer users, people in Boston and so on don’t deserve computers.
