but this isn't last season

I don’t judge them based off what they did last year because it was a different group of guys. And to not find fault with the rest of the team would be short sighted. I know where you’re coming from, but Nabby can’t save them from themselves. believe me, I call him on playing poorly when he does, and on the 4th goal, he did.

They were pretty good in Anaheim

It’s just growing pains. Two roster players weren’t part of the team until the last week of training camp, the second line center is injured, there are two new defensemen, and the third and fourth lines were almost completely re-made. It’ll take some time for them to get clicking.

Everyone points out that it is the beginning of the season and it may take time to click, and that is true. But all we’ve seen so far is a complete and total lack of goaltending. That is something will will need for the post season.

Uh

The first 3 goals were on the Sharks NOT Nabby. How is that bad goaltending?

Greiss let in a TERRIBLE goal, and Nabby let in the one bad one, but he played well otherwise.

The 5 on 5 play was an issue last season too. It’s something that needs to be worked on, big time. Especially in the defensive end.

But look at it this way. Last season we owned the fuck out of the beginning of the season, and fell flat on our faces late and into the playoffs. Maybe this is for the best…

little known fact

the season was changed from 82 to 3 games last week, so the season is over for the sharks. No playoffs, no Stanley Cup, not even a chance to make an early exit again…

Boy were we spoiled last year during the first half of the season. With all these changes on the roster, we can’t expect everyone to jell right away. Greiss looked solid from what I saw, minus that shit goal. Also, the fact that we were able to come back from 4-0 and tie it with 5 minutes left because of 4 PP goals…I’ll take that as a positive. Now, the fact that we gave up 4 unanswered goals to the Kings…yikes.

Lots of season left, I’m still stoked.

There is a lot of good to take from this game. They Sharks fought back from being down 4-0. The powerplay was on fire. Heater got his first goal, continues to rack up the A’s. The team played physical (eventually) and stood up for each other (even if Shelley got destroyed by Ivanans).

Demers still looks pretty solid out there to me. Ferriero continues to improve and get to the net and create chances.

Why McLellan is not using Boyle more. The guy only spent 23:29 on ice today. Why not use him ala Pronger/Niedermeyer/JBo and let him be out there for 30 minutes?

The kid’s done nothing but work for those minutes, so I’m in favor of him seeing an increase. If that keeps Boyle healthy all season and relatively fresh for the playoffs, then we’ll cheering for TM’s genius.

A gripe about Demers I have is that he keeps his head down- watch his breakout passes. Always goes to the safe man and never tries to stretch the D. Likes to watch himself carry the puck.

Whatevs though. He’s a young kid, and there’s only room for improvement. Someone needs to step up on the bottom pairing, but it’s too early too judge I think.

The trouble is..

Vlasic plays both on PP and PK, although I’m seeing his PP time decrease this season and that’s probably why he’s no longer leading the team in PT.

Demers is taking over Vlasic’s PP time, which is an interesting twist, especially seeing how Vlasic recorded 30 points last season.

Demers seems more naturally offensively-oriented than Vlasic, which might be why. He seems much more willing to jump up into the play, while Vlasic likes to stay near the blueline – which doesn’t help when Vlasic’s slap shot is kind of pathetic.

honestly... after 3 games

Demers looks like a better fit for the PP than Vlasic. Offensively he shows more creativity and guile. That pinch in the Ducks game led to the 1st goal. He kept the puck in w/ a wise pinch.

Pickles, on the other hand, either doesn’t have as strong offensive capabilities or lacks confidence or both.

by IsThisTheYear? on Oct 6, 2009 11:18 PM PDT up reply actions

Maybe it’s just me, but I think the Sharks are going to struggle like hell through the end of November. Lots of road games, and a good amount of tough teams. December and January seem like the months to stockpile points.

I’m not analyzing too much right now, and honestly I’m just trying to appreciate the start of the year. Three games seems like a small enough sample size to give them the benefit of the doubt. There’s really no need to start taking a deep look into the team until this upcoming home stand is over.

Let the boys play. We’ve got six months to see where they’re headed. 1-2-0 now is just a number. It doesn’t mean shit until we get further in. Let the sample size expand and then let’s take a deeper look. Everyone seems to be on pins and needles, and I completely understand that, but there’s a whole lot of the season left to be played.

Do they improve? Hopefully. Are they a playoff team? Yes. Let’s watch the PK distribution with Pavs out, see how they manage to score goals with a depleted top six. It’s a top heavy team, and the blueline’s longevity concerns me, but goddamn it’s early. No need to be hasty.

Go Sharks.

It’s far too early in the year to worry.

There are plenty of things going right for the Sharks and still a lot of guys learning the new system and that haven’t really skated together until this year. Everything clicked fast last year, but it was mostly the same team as the year before.

We had a lot of turnover this year and people need to take that into account.

I haven’t looked at the schedule very closely, so I’ll defer to your judgment. I agree with the rest, especially the small sample size thing (I just got a job as a researcher, so I should know better than to extrapolate from insufficient data). There are a bunch of games left, we still have some guys that need to jell, and our 2nd line center is already out with an injury.

I hope you’re right and we struggle through November. I’d rather get that ugly out of the way early in the season than see it happen in March.

Ryane Clowe

I posted in a thread no one cares about; typical of me.

It’s early in the season but it seems to me that Mr. Clowe is invisible. He just seems flat when compared to his capabilities. Maybe I huffed too much Trader Joe’s cheap beer but this camper is not pleased.

I'll drink that! oh...I'll drink TO that.
