McGinn will be in the line-up for the home opener. Nabokov in the net.
Today's was spent remembering how to play defense. Pollak describes the drills, you should read it.

Fear The Fin: Where Selling Your Soul Is The Likely Solution

This McGinn situation still had me scratching my head. Is this really about McGinn or about other people Sharks roster or both? I believe our current cap situation allows for McGinn to be recalled without subtracting anyone from the roster (with Callahan heading to Worcester a few days ago). Other then jet-lagging him and getting him one game with Worcester, what was the point? He would’ve played more games with San Jose (albeit less overall minutes) and in Frazer McLaren you get a player, who while hhe has more offensive ability then Shelley or Staubitz, is hardly someone I’d wanna see as a regular 3rd-liner.
It’s been a curious start to the season as far as roster choices. Why keep Staubitz if he doesn’t really fit with the current roster as it is? Brad has potential to be a decent enough 4th liner, but there’s just no spot for him right now unless there are injuries – and he’s hardly an adequate fill-in for almost anyone in the lineup. Then you have this McGinn situation. Also, you keep Callahan for a couple games, see a lot of questionable defense, then decide to send him down. I don’t see him being the answer, but scratching one of our starters for a game or two might send a better message then just throwing em out there over and over. I trust DW and T-Mac, but I don’t understand what they’re doing with some of our fringe players.

Nothing about the McGinn thing makes any sense.
Of all the players that needed a lesson after game one (and subsequently) he’s still not even high on the list.
After 3 games my list of players that have me scratching my head include names I wouldn’t have suspected going in.
Pickles and Clowe, I’m looking at you.

maybe they knew Worcester would need him to score the late, game-winner?

I honestly think McGinn wouldda stayed down if not for Pavs’ injury. Maybe there was something they wanted him to work on, but they needed a scorer sooner than they thought they would with Pavs getting hurt…and thats why he was brought back so soon after being sent down? I doubt they’d jerk him around this much otherwise.
As for the other roster oddities? Those ones are a bit harder to understand.

Conspiracy Theory time.
(Because Conspiracy theories are fun)
Jamie McGinn is actually a dick. He’s a locker room cancer. He abuses Joe Thornton and makes him feel like crap. When people tell him to shut up he’s says NO I was a second round draft pick, I’m better then you. Toddy was then forced to send him down.
Makes sense?

Not in the slightest. Like the creativity though.

Jamie McGinn is a total dick.
I once saw him kill a woman and wear her skin as a suit.
I shouldn't have said anything.

TOTALLY off topic
Except in the realm of defense – the Coyotes blanked the defending Stanley Cup champs at home, 3-0.
Is the world about to end? Do we have stronger competition in the Pacific this year?

boo! but seriously, I could see this team being the Columbus Blue Jackets of this season with a strong goalie, a superstar captain and solid, but not showy supporting cast – not to mention bringing in a former Stars head coach who’s very quality. I still can’t believe Dallas prefers Marc Crawford to Dave Tippett.

I was cheering for Bryzgalov
He got me a shutout, a win, and some solid stats tonight. I almost didn’t start him, figuring the Pens would blow him up. Crikey, I would’ve kicked myself.

Hmmm
I like McGinn ,and I am glad he’s back, but this is odd.
On a completely separate topic, someone please play some fucking defense.

What’s defense? You mean offense, right?

I think defense is the thing where you prevent the puck from going into your own net. I’m not sure though, I haven’t seen it in a while.

Prevent the puck from going in your own net… by constantly shooting it into the other teams net… got it.

I think that’s part of it. I seem to remember something about clearing people from the crease and getting into shooting lanes and playing the man not the puck. But that might just be something from a dream I had once.

It’s not a part of San Jose Sharks mantra to play the puck before the man.

I thought defense consisted of drop passes to no one in the neutral zone and complacently letting people skate by you while trying to poke check.

Yeah, that seems about right. That and cross-ice passes with an opposing player right in between you and your intended target. And clearing attempts that go right to the defenseman at the point.

Slightly OT
But remember that one game where we won? And how I said I’d do a gif of this one thing? Well, NHL Gamecenter decided to stop being such a dick and uploaded games, so behold:

Also, I vote that we use this gif whenever sarcastic clapping is needed. Like, when your first shot on goal in a period is with less than two minutes left.
