*****Got an email from a reader who asked what happened to Joe Ike, the public address announcer at the arena for years. On opening night, instead of Ike, it was Danny Miller — who in the past has handled all those contest and promotional duties during stoppages in play — letting everybody know the Sharks were about to go on a power play.
I had heard from a good source — OK, it was Greg Jamison himself — that there were eight to 10 staff reductions in the off-season because of the general economic picture, and now it looks as if Ike’s job was one of them. This morning, a Sharks spokesman said that the decision was made to consolidate the two roles (and obviously Miller was the one left standing).
