Conico is up, unhungover…or whatever, and we’re about to hit the road. Raleigh here we come! See y’all on TV

If we win today
That means the Canes will have lost 9 straight.
For what it’s worth, our 2008 win-streak (Feb. – Apr.) began when we dropped Philadelphia to their 9th straight loss.
Am I reaching for parallels? No shit… but here’s hoping we add to our current 4-game streak.
Oh, and while Dave is correct that I’m currently unhungover, we’ll be tailgating (weather permitting – it’s been raining as of last night), so anything’s possible.
Finally, you guys wouldn’t believe Dave’s house = a fucking mansion, man, complete with Center Ice. Expect nothing less.
GO SHARKS.

Here's a preview courtesy of the Canes
Cam Ward should be in net, and Erik Cole is out with a broken leg. Other details here.
Also, original Shark Ray Whitney will be honored before the game for having played (a few games back) his 1,000th game. I think tonight makes 1,005 or thereabouts. This potentially could be the last time we ever see him battling his original team – he IS 37, after all.*
*Dave slaps Conico, invoking the wrath of Gordie Howe and Chris Chelios.

my edit to the goals prediction for todays game.
im gunna go ahead and say that instead of a goal by Nichol, it will be a goal by marleau assisted by Nichol.
Dude, lemme getchur keys.

at the rate things are going – a Carolina win over the high-flying SJ offense would be like the Washington Generals beating the Harlem Globetrotters.

A game not starting at 9:30 PM Central time is a game I like.
Pavs returning soon??? I sure hope so.
We better destroy these guys. We don’t need an effort resembling that which was given against Tampa Bay. GO SHARKS!!
Pavelski closing in, Pavelski fires, HE SCOOORES!! 5 games not enough! The Sharks have another date in the Lone Star State!

Thank the Lord, a Sharks game that doesn’t require me to haul my ass out of bed in the middle of the night! Shame it’s a one-off, but I shall enjoy this rare occasion with a drink or three.
Good times and…..Go Sharks!

Sadly daylight has long departed into the gloom of an English autumn afternoon, but it sure feels good to sit down in the evening to watch the game. Something I’ll have to look forward to if and when I finally move to the Bay Area!

What should I do?
Both the 49ers and Sharks play at the same time today? Which team should I watch? I think I will have to go with the 49ers, then check in on the Sharks to see what the score is.

I can’t believe they scheduled them at the same time. Totally sucks.
I wanna watch the Sharks, but it’s Alex Smith’s first start in forever, so it might be worth it to see him overthrow Peyton.

Wow, that’s kind of stupid. And apparently, they scheduled this game around the Carolina Panthers game, so people can watch both.
But heaven forbid they do that for a West Coast team. :/

Man, 12:30 on a Sunday
of course my friends pick this particular 12:30 timeslot on this particular Sunday to go to brunch. Thank goodness for that wonderful invention we know as DVR. Now the key is just to stay away from the internet until I watch the game.

In a completely unrelated note
Sharks are something like 5-0-0 in games i either don’t watch live or watch live but am sans computer (and thus sans FTF). I’m watching this one later so if this trend continues you fine people might just have to ban me for the greater good of the Sharks.

Scotty’s looked good every game. He and Marleau are the only two players I’ve seen on the Sharks so far who are always there doing the right things.
I’d actually say that Nichol’s been there a little more than Marleau, but that’s probably just because he plays a checking game rather than a scoring one.
Last year, Pavelski was a favorite of mine because of his positioning. He was almost always in the right place at the right time.
This year, I’m leaning towards Nichol because he goes to the right place at the right time and smashes whoever’s there when he gets there.

He came to us rusty having been out for over a year and had a bad pre season. He’s been stepping up and finding his game again. I think we’ll all be pleasantly surprised by him this season. Don’t think he’ll crack the top two, but he’ll be fine.

Went out for breakfast/lunch. I really like the score right now.
Oh, and who called the Murray goal? That’s right. Just need Ortmeyer and Nabby and my prediction will be completely epic.

Records like that bug me. It cheapens just how good Dryden and the habs were. They just didn’t play as many games.
by cerise on Nov 1, 2009 1:01 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I think a lot of people get that Dryden was an amazing goalie. He won a lot, retired early, and then became a lawyer and called one of the greatest hockey games every played. I mean, my parents weren’t even in college yet when he retired, and I still know who he is. But that still doesn’t cheapen Nabokov’s accomplishment, that he has been this durable and this good to win that many games.

Just remember – the league only had 12 or so teams, no salary cap, and Quebec was producing a lot of great players, who wanted to play for their provincial team. Extremely different circumstances from then and now.

Yeah, that’s part of the thing I hate about the Hab’s fans and their bragging about copious amounts of cup wins… The vast majority was back when there wasn’t exactly a ton of competition.
Sure, they won some a couple decades ago, but they’ve slowed down a bit lately.
Still better than us… I’d like to have 1… /sigh
by Evilducks on Nov 1, 2009 11:03 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Less competition and Provincial pride aside
The Stanley Cup is still the hardest trophy to win in sports.
Let’s not cheapen the dynasty for what it was. Yes, the perspective is painful, but there’s a reason for that. It’s not because we can argue away the 5 cups, it’s because we want them, and there’s every reason for this team to have won them the past few seasons, but they haven’t.
That, and the Canadiens winning them, both stand for themselves.

If you had told me Marleau would score today, I would’ve told you “No shit, that’s what he’s supposed to do.”
If you had told me Vlasic would score today I would’ve told you, “Hey, that’s nice, he’s usually pretty good defensively.”
If you told me Huskins, Staubitz and Murray would’ve scored today, I would ask you, “What are you taking and who’s your dealer?”

I’ll let him share all the details of the trip and game. But, I will say that Bobbie and I are now accepting all donations for helping the new Sharks east coast good luck charms travel to more games this season!
Oh, and I can’t help myself….that was the worse ice surface I have EVER seen in my 55 years.

I just heard something crazy
So, I’m sitting here watching NHL on the Fly before I hit the sack.
They’re talking about the Sharks game and going over the goals. They get to Staubitz’ goal when the unthinkable happens.
Announcer: “Jody Shelley throws it in front to Brad Staubitz, who actually flies through the air… Not quite Bobby Orr, but it hits the back of the net.”
That’s right, somebody compared Brad Staubitz to Bobby Orr… Yup, world ending.
