Couture Reassigned to Worcester
Could be any number of reasons (salary cap for example), so it's not a sure thing that he won't be up with the big club tomorrow in Nashville.
That being said, the Torrey Mitchell winds are blowing strong. Let's see if those winds are more than just hot air.

TORREY MITCHELL
I hope he comes back. I really really do.

It has to be soon
Why not tomorrow?
Also, apparently the game isn’t being televised anywhere tomorrow. That’s fairly pathetic.

Yeah, but...
…Nashville.
I was advocating for Joel Ward in a third line role for the Sharks.
He’s Nashville’s starting right wing.
Nuff said.

Let me clarify...
I want every single game to be televised, but I could understand why network execs passed this one up.

While I can see why this one is written off on paper, I don’t think the NHL should be not airing games.
Also, It’s possible nobody gets called up and Shelley plays against the Preds.

I agree, but I can see the reason.
Very true, since we were winging 3 centers last game. Allows for some movement.

Problem is, Nashville doesn’t really have a heavyweight that he would go with. That’s why I don’t think it would be a particularly good strategy.

Oh ferchrissakes.
I can’t think onf one person who likes Jordin Tootoo. heavyweight or not, he’s still fun to watch get pounded. I guess Staubitz has his dance card for awhile anyways.

That’s my point though— you’re dressing two guys for the same role, when Staubitz is probably the only one that would go with Tootoo and/or any other Nashville forward looking to scrap.
I’d much rather have McLellan start Mitchell, Couture, Ferriero etc. than go that route.

Maybe a return of Shelley?
He was injured short term, so maybe he comes back, but I would rather see Torrey.

Devin Setoguchi got a little banged up in Chicago and his availability will be determined tomorrow. And don’t be shocked to see Greiss in net against the Predators for the second time in a week. Just saying it could happen.

Wouldn’t Mitchell be ahead of schedule? I swear the estimated return was Thanksgiving or so. Not that I’m complaining…

Honestly though, I think that was his expected return date last season. Who knows if he plays tomorrow— it’s possible of course, but with all that has gone on, I’m not expecting anything.

It was
I remember, because I had tickets to the Chicago game on November 15 last year, and Torrey was expected to return right after that and I was so pissed that I missed it by that much. But then that ended up not mattering when “6-8 weeks” turned into “6-8 months.”

Torrey Mitchell is halfway through a two-week conditioning assignment [Source]
Just a throw-away line at the end of an article about how well the third line is performing, but it’s still pretty significant as it tells us how long it’ll be until he’s back (ONE WEEK!).

It doesn't necessarily mean it's a hard two weeks...
That’s just the maximum amount of time he can spend in Worcester on a conditioning assignment under the NHL CBA. Don’t rule him out yet.

i was/am hoping that he'd play in Worcester on Wednesday
you know, so i’d have a personal eyewitness account of a Torrey Mitchell sighting. i don’t know if i really believe that he’s in the lineup in Nashville tomorrow without any video evidence and all.

I’ll believe mitchell is back when i physically, with my own eyes, see him on the ice. This is probably just a cap move.

For those that are subscribers, it looks like the game will be shown on NHL Gamecenter Live.
by nevets07 on Nov 16, 2009 11:39 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
I’m guessing since its not on TV on any other channel, the NHL will broadcast it on Gamecenter Live.
I’m just assuming since whenever I click on a Sharks game in Gamecenter, I usually get a message that says to watch the game on Versus, NBC or NHL Network. This time around it says “Waiting for video feed”.
by nevets07 on Nov 17, 2009 11:04 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
They can take the in-arena feed from the jumbotron and layer the radio feed over it. It’s been done before; I think it was a Panthers-Hurricanes game when they were both in the middle of the playoff race in March that neither team was broadcasting due to Versus or NBC or something.

is there anything in the CBA
or other rules that require a player actually be sent down to where he is reassigned?
let me clarify. since this is seen by some to be a pure cap move, if the Big Sharks plan on calling him up for tonight’s game against Nashville, do they actually have to physically move him back to Worcester to do so? Or could Couture be sitting and practicing with the guys in Nashville the whole time during his reassignment before he is officially called back up?
Just curious.

From what I’ve read, players physically have to be sent to where they are reassigned, and can’t just be reassigned in spirit. Easy for teams whose minor league affiliates are just across the street (i.e. Flyers), not so easy for us.

thanks mymclife
yeah that seemed to be to easy of a loophole to get through. but just wanted to make sure after Pollak’s quote:
The Sharks reassigned forward Logan Couture to Worcester after the Chicago game. Which means they’ll need to bring somebody else up by tomorrow night. And if past practice is any indication, it could very well by Couture.
But yeah, tonight’s game has some intrigue: Will Torrey Mitchell be back? Who’s gonna get called up? Is Boo gonna start? Is Goc gonna torch us again with his scoring prowess? Does Tootoo dare to get Staubitzed again? We will see.

Nashville seems to be trying to avoid stupid penalties, I don’t think we’ll see any fights from Tootoo at the tank, he might drop them while in Nashville though as it’s his fan base he’s likely to rile up at that point.

The Phantoms actually no longer play across the street (or in the same state) – they’re playing out of the Adirondack region in upstate New York. But your point is taken – the Eastern Conference teams have closer AHL affiliates.

Oh, I know. I was just referencing last season, when the Flyers were right up against the cap and so kept shuttling their players across the street to accrue some extra room.
