Off The Post: November 2nd
- Roy Sommer gets his 400th AHL win, the fourth highest in AHL history. Congratulations sir.
- David Pollak takes a look at Jumbo's dental situation.
- Habs fans start a little too early with the "Hey Hey Hey, Goodbye" chant. Not the first time they've jumped the gun, not the last.
- For those who missed HNIC, Elliot Friedman did a nice piece commemorating 50 years of goalie masks. Also, here's the opening montage for the Leafs-Habs game. Real top of the line stuff.
- Andrew Raycroft notches a shutout against the Colorado Avalanche. Seriously though, that upcoming global thermonuclear war we were talking about? No doubt about it now.
- More junk flying around the NHLPA. Positives? The CBA doesn't expire until 2011. Negatives? At the rate they're going, the owners are going to be able to get whatever they want.
- Speaking of which, Manny Malhotra has become the new player rep for San Jose.
- Benn Ferriero answers questions from fans. Nothing on why he didn't babysit for Jody Shelley.
- Todd Richards pulls out the Minnesota Nice and gets the Wild back on track.
- Behind The Net with a standard kick ass piece-- this time, perspective on both winning and losing streaks.
- Big fan of this guy.
Judge Baum agrees to sell the Phoenix Coyotes to the NHL [H/T ElvisVF101]
Evgeni Nabokov picks up three stars of the week honors.
Go Sharks.

I missed that bit on the Goalie’s mask, thanks! On the same note, I highly recommend this book Saving Face: The Art and History of the Goalie Mask. One of the best father’s day gifts I have done for my dad (meaning he liked as much as I did), it also has a picture of Nabby on the front.
Cheers!
Here’s to the Sharks clicking after 15 games. I thought it would take 20.
Oh and how much better is Huskins looking on the PP instead of Vlasic. Huskins seems to take care of the two things Vlasic doesn’t, keeping the puck in at the blueline and getting the shot on net.
We just traded who for who?!
Agree... Still waiting for Pickles to show us his offensive prowess
Even Demers shows more with that sweet slap pass to Heatley in the Avs game.
PIckles just looks like a nervous Nellie on the PP at the point.

Curious ...
over at the WTC they are discussing the attendance for the Carolina game – question tho, how do they come up with that figure? On Friday’s game that I was at, it was announced that it was a sell-out crowd, yet there were more than a couple rows that were empty. Is it determined by tickets sold, or people that actually show up?

What’s announced in the arena is generally the number of tickets distributed. So that could include people there, people who bought tickets but didn’t go, and tickets that were given away. So an arena could be “sold out,” but still look fairly empty.

Anyone else feel like getting some Cluck U/University Chicken/Smoke Eaters whatever they call it now?

I was thinking more of a Hot Wing Eating Battle Royale*
*Global Thermonuclear" Flavor is the second spiciest flavor on the menu that you don’t have to sign a waiver before being allowed to eat.
Chess is fun too, but not if you have weak brains.

my movie reference fails. I mean, I know it’s super old skool, but I never saw it until they had some special theater release of it last year. Still fresh for me.

I got it!
And I only partially watched that movie four years ago. But I do watch a rather large number of 80s movies.

Only the East Coast blogs. SBN is moving towards the NBC/Versus model to give our coverage a more realistic feel.

uh … and for those of us who don’t know what the NBC/Versus model is … ?? … do they have blogs there?? (guess I’ll have to go look) …
and will they be bringing that format over there if it works for the east coast blogs? how is the coverage here not “realistic” anyways??

The NBC/Versus model is where there is an overwhelming focus on the East Coast, while almost completely ignoring the West Coast. It has nothing to do with the actual layout or style.

Yeah, mymclife explained it well. It was just a joke.
There is going to be a new layout coming.

I have to say
I’m not in love with the new layout. It seems a bit… generic. Not enough teal.
Also, needs more cowbell.
And naked women.
Oops, was that last one out loud?

yeah. It’s bland city. I mean. it’s clean and non offensive design, but boring. Thankfully the content makes up for what the site lacks in visual interest.
I am happy to see those stupid ads that were plastered ALL OVER THE BACKGROUND have disappeared. Those were frakking ridiculous.

Agreed
Although, aesthetics aside, the interface is a bit nicer. The improved ad placement is nice.
MOAR TEAL!!!

Actually
I unblock the ads on this site, figure I might as well contribute to any potential funds they receive for their hard work.
Yeah, I’m not a big fan either. Trying to work some channels, but at the end of the day I doubt anything changes— the tech team does a great job here, and they probably poured hours upon hours into this.
(sigh)

it's just so vanilla
and I say that as someone who likes vanilla ice cream.
That and depending on how I have my monitor/screen, there’s not a whole helluva a lot of contrast between the white and gray areas.
mmm, gradients.

I offered a token of peace— it’s likely we’ll be doing game threads from now on, because the tech team has been trying to get me to do that for awhile now.
Hopefully that will smooth out any bad blood that may have arose from my email.
