Like it says, Marleau is a beast. During a penalty kill in the second period of the November 7 game against the Penguins.

Marleau. Boyle. Thornton. Nabokov. All of em played a great game. Boyle’s end-to-end rush for that one goal and that incredible, sick, disgusting skate work on the blue line to keep the puck in on the other goal was just a thing of beauty.
That’s entirely from a hockey fan’s perspective of course. From a Pens fan perspective, pretty as it was, it also put my stomach in knots.

Thanks for the gracious post. Here’s to penciling in another Pens/Sharks game in June.

Goodness gracious
that play was awesome. He was a beast tonight, would’ve been nice to get him a goal. Holy cow, I really like the way we’re playing, even with the injuries. Good to get Pavs back too.

Woohoo I get to be the first to point out that Marleau was wearing the “A”!!!!!!!!!
I know that there was probably very little significance to this considering Blake is out……………but nobody was wearing the “C” as far as I could see…..
Marleau is a step closer to being our Captain again! Woohoo!
OK so let me ask people this question? What is the difference between the type of player that Marleau is……………and the type of player Crosby is…….Is it strictly a puck handling thing that allows Crosby to score more goals? It may be my biased opinion but Marleau looks to be the same type of player to me but better?
Lets see people compare the two…..
by SanJoseLandShark on Nov 7, 2009 11:12 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
I just realized that people were probably talking all about the “A” in the game thread………
I am dumb. But stIll I want people to respond to my question.

Although I wish Marleau was as good as Crosby, he’s not.
Crosby has better vision, and is much better with the stick. Marleau, on the other hand, is OMG way faster.

I also notice that he gets a lot of goals from in front of the net. Marleau does to, but it seems to me that Crosby plugs away a lot more rebounds. Anyone else notice that?

You know what I compare this to?
I’m that guy in NHL 10 who just stands in front of the goal and pokes in rebounds? I lack the skill to do anything else because my last video game console was a Sega Genesis.
If you’re saying that Crosby is like my NHL 10 playing skill then he sucks. Marleau is better.

And i’m not an idiot. I know that the general consensus is that Crosby is the second coming of Gretzky and he probably IS the best young player but Marleau gets no love outside of San Jose. The fact that he’s not mentioned as a shoe-in for Team Canada bothers me.

Marleau’s main assets are his speed and wrist shot. Crosby is miles ahead in most everything else. His vision is easily better than any forward in the league. His boardwork was not up to part today though, but there are rumors that he’s been playing with a shoulder injury.

IMO
Crosby is a ‘dangler’. He creates plays while dazzling people with his stick. marleau is a jack of all trades. Not only can he fly, but he can snipe with the best of them, and he’s got the moves to beat you. That being said, Marleau is a lot grittier, in a power forward-type of way. Marleau isn’t afraid to hit, or get hit, if it means creating offensively.

My hat is off to the Pens fans at that game (and there were a ton of them as fellow attendees can attest to). They took a LOT of heat, particularly in our section.

Oh yeah definately.
I sat next to two Pens fans that were generally quiet. When the Sharks scored the people in front of us high-fived everyone and went to high five the Pens fans who sat there silently while they said, “Ohhhhh sorry.” It was pretty funny.

This is was the Second best game of the season!
The home opener was sweet, but this was just as good give the pens a kick in the A$$!

Well, that's what I get for wearing my Pens jersey to the game
Marleau was definitely a beast tonight. His single-handed effort in the 3rd pretty much summed up the Sharks’ dominance of the Pens. Glad to see Pavs back. He’s my favorite Sharks player so it was great to see him be able to pitch in. Boo to Heater for stealing Pavs 2nd goal. Murray just made an absolute mockery of the Pens forecheckers.
After Letang was done in the 1st, Pens really had no one capable of setting up a decent Powerplay. Goligoski’s effectiveness was somewhat hampered by his previous injury. Crosby doesn’t normally play point and looked out of place, and that’s definitely where the Pens miss Geno. Crosby set up some good passes, one to a streaking Orpik on the PP….but, well, it’s Brooks Orpik you’re passing to. Overall, he had an average game. A couple of turnovers in the offensive zone, but I suppose you get the bad with the good. Great thing was, even with his supposed injury, he was still doing things that electrified the crowd.
Nabby deserved the shutout. And while I definitely credit Nabby for a strong game, the Pens also weren’t generating the same kind of traffic the Sharks had in front of MAF and BJ (lol- that sounds bad) . Sharks also did a better job of clearing out rebounds when there were the few and Nabby made a flashy save in the 1st on the Pens PP to keep the game at hand.
A 5-0 ripping of the Pens is pretty bad. But in a way, I went home feeling like a winner. First time seeing Crosby at the Tank, so I was pretty pumped about that. Wish it were a better hockey game (read: both teams had their full rosters) but that’s the breaks. Sharks boost their confidence up. Hopefully Geno comes up back. GO Sharks! GO Pens!

Good to see i'm not the only Sharks-Pens fan in here...
Growing up watching Lemieux play, it was a pretty simple pick…
That, and i have double reason – My last name’s Crosby and I was born in 87…

Most underrated player in the league...
In a 2008 ESPN poll of NHL players, Patty was voted “most underrated player” and tied for 4th “best leader” with Scott Niedermayer.
Unfairly was blamed for a team collapse in the playoffs.
Never, in his career, has he publicly criticized teammates or coaches
Is among active leaders in playoff goals and points.
Is a shoe-in for Team Canada
Will have his number retired as a Shark.
Will be UFA.
What’s a GM to do??

Isn’t Marleau a farm-boy from Saskatchewan? (i.e., not Quebecois?)

Yup. I was just mocking all the Habs fans who want him because they think he’s French-Canadian due to his name.
