Great stuff, and if the numbers are any indication, it looks like Petrecki is starting to turn it around.

Looks like Patrick White put up some points.

Is there compensastion if he isn't signed?
I keep seeing people say there is… or there isn’t. Which is it?!

If he isn’t retained, I think it’s a second.

IIRC, the 55th overall pick.

It’s a win win either way. But, personally, I want to see him develop because good prospects are not a bad thing.

Apparently he’s lightning fast and has a hard shot, but the “want to” isn’t there. Maybe he’s finally putting it together.

I’m reading comments about his play, and apparently he’s just not really trying all that hard, and is really lackadaisical. Still putting up the points, but not really doing much else. Kind of reminds me of Kaspar, and I don’t think any of us want a repeat of him.

That's always been the knock on him
and you know old perceptions die hard. I’m going to say that he’s turning it around until I hear different, I’d rather have Patrick White with met potential then the uncertainty of a 55th pick.

Speaking of Kaspar
He signed with the Flyers, but now he’s playing in Finland!? How does that work?

They put him on waivers a few weeks ago so they could release him from his contract. Rumor is that he asked to be put on waivers because he wasn’t getting a shot at the NHL (Flyers recalled other guys before him when there were injuries).
And, from what I was hearing, he was playing just like he was in Worcester. That is, not really playing.

Thing is...
he’s not a very good prospect.
by idunno723 on Nov 9, 2009 3:47 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Thing is, he is a first round pick still in college who has had a slow start in his first two college seasons.
I still think he’s got a shot to be impressive. I’ve never seen him skate, but I’m guessing you haven’t either. If he keeps putting up points, I’ll keep the faith.

Good point
but isn’t the bust rate higher then the success rate?
He hasn’t put up the most encouraging numbers in his first two years and making a big jump will be tough to do so.
This is a weird feeling… i never argue against a player’s success haha

We’ll he’s not yet 21 and Vancouver thought enough of him to take him in the first round. He’s having a solid season against pretty tough competition, so I’mma go ahead and give him the benefit of the doubt through 8 games.
The Sharks have an interesting opportunity here, to either retain him or recieve a pick. If he continues on this path, I think they go with the former.

And as far as the numbers go, he’s scored 6 points (3G, 3A) in 8 games this year, following only 16 (7G, 9A) in 36 games in his Sophmore year and 10 (6G, 5A) in 45 games his Freshman year.
How do we know he’s not finally turning it around?

Well...
8 games is a very small sample size (Wooo SSS argument!?). Hot start could be a fluke for all we know. Even if he does put up good numbers it doesn’t necessarily mean he will put up those numbers in the NHL. Maybe he’ll be a Goc?
What I’m trying to say is past performances usually indicate how a player will play. Players don’t usually make a huge turn-around but if he does I wouldn’t mind.
by idunno723 on Nov 9, 2009 4:11 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
NHL players usually don’t, but prospects sometimes do. Eight games is a small sample size, but it points to an improvement. He has the tools to be a top 2 center, and it’s never been a question of skill. It’s been a question of desire.
The “he’s not a good prospect because he’s not a good prospect” argument is circular at best. IIRC, no one thought Vesce was a very good prospect either, until he made the team.
White may have those two slow seasons working against him, but I wouldn’t think that he has to “turn it around” yet. This is his first real hockey experience, and maybe he just has a longer learning curve than others. He has the skills, he’s got time to grow.
I still think he’s a C-level prospect, but I’d take that over the uncertainty of the 55th selection, especially if White continues to play solid college hockey.

Okay,
you’re the prospect guy! (compliment. Just in case that was misleading)
Is he a “Wouldn’t be surprised if he made it, but wouldn’t be surprised if he busts guy”? And is a 2nd round pick that risky? I probably have too much confidence in Sharks drafting.

You guys realize you’re vehemently arguing over a player neither of you have seen play.
Just sayin’.
