- NOT HOCKEY, BUT PRETTY DAMN IMPORTANT = Today marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. (If you want an additional headtrip, see how often November 9th pops up in German history - whole lot more intriguing than some Mayan calendar date)
- Hell of a Hall of Fame class getting inducted today.
- Elliotte Friedman takes a look at the battle raging inside the NHLPA and furthermore offers up solutions to the problem. Meanwhile, Buzz Hargrove resigns from said organization, and enter Donald Fehr.
- More than ONE HUNDRED players in the NHL are injured right now... and Nashville is struggling a bit more than most.
- Giguere to Toronto? Marchant for Higgins? Trade rumors abound in Anaheim.
- TSN's primer on all 30 teams' power play units.
- Has the Minnesota Wild organization resorted to ice girls because of low ticket sales?
- Note to self - don't let my agent diss my teammate via Twitter.

- I have yet to do a proper fanpost of the road trip to Raleigh, but the above picture was taken AFTER the John Deere Olympia (i.e. a non-Zamboni) "resurfaced" the ice in the second intermission of the November 1st game vs. San Jose. With Dave Valentine as my witness - EGAD.
- From the same trip - Ray Whitney's 1,000th game ceremony.
- Not a huge surprise, sadly = Vesa Toskala's #1 role has been usurped.
- Defending Big D diagnoses San Jose's arch-rival.
- PensBurgh's take on the Penguins' loss to Team Teal.
- The Top 10 Saves of the Decade = gotta love #1, 2, and 8. Not so much #3.

the ice at the outdoor rink in Monterey that I went to last winter was better. I feel sorry for the Canes who have to play 41 on that crap.

Hardly considered an “advantage,” but if opposing teams always had to play on that surface, at least Carolina’s familiarity with bad ice conditions might provide a leg up over a 7-game series.
That being said, that ice is horrendous

Myself, if a shark took off my arm then I would replace it with a harpoon gun/arm, then go hunt that shark down. Someone could write a book about how an animal of the sea took my appendage and how I devoted the rest of my life to seeking revenge which I know is fated to be doomed.

Wow, that ice seriously reminds me of the Downtown Ice that’s set up near Christmas in the Park. And that’s really, really not a good thing.

One of my friends’ dad was skating there, caught an edge (he was a college hockey player, too), and fell. He then got skated over and was cut up bad.
I will never skate at that makeshift rink. So bad.

Yeah, my friend who hadn’t fallen down in 8 years fell at that rink. And then I, the person who has ice skated maybe twice in her lifetime, kept falling down while skating along the wall and holding onto it. I know I’m bad, but not that bad.
Just horrible ice. I don’t think they resurface it the entire time it’s there.

And Dave and I noticed that the players were doing more saucer passes, just so the puck wouldn’t hit one of the gnarly crevasses you see in the photo.

I'm still at a loss
as to why not more is said about this. I guess the fan base there are just used to it, or maybe don’t know any better (we know of one guy for sure). But, but, but….how can that happen game after game and no one says a thing?

I was listening to the post game quotes from the Penguins game and McLellan was talking about Nabby and Greiss.
He said right now Nabby is playing surprisingly well, and while he continues to do so he’s going to get starts. If he hits a bump in the road then Thomas will get a chance.
It’s hard to disagree with the logic in the sense that Nabby gives us a chance to win every night no matter who’s injured, then again, it’s easy to disagree with the logic with this compressed schedule and Nabby probably going to be starting for the Russians in the Olympics. Basically he’ll be Kipper in the playoffs, completely spent after the long season.
McLellan is hardly the only coach riding a stand out goalie right now. Pretty much every coach that has one is riding him like their jobs are on the line. Anderson, Bryzgolov, Miller, Broduer, Quick… All getting nearly every start these days.
