Not quite that. It’s more expanded, and you can have group convos that include anyone, everyone, or just a certain someone … I should also mention it’s in Beta and a bit wonky at times (hence invites to join) but I think it’s pretty neat.

by Evilducks on Dec 1, 2009 8:17 PM PST up reply actions

During Nabby’s first injury, he was absolutely clutch. He got a huge ego boost from everyone talking about his huge shutout streak (since Luongo was chasing it at the time), and played out of his mind.

It wasn’t until the second half of the season did we see why he was a backup goalie.

Technically, he does have more hits than Murray

by Evilducks on Dec 1, 2009 8:57 PM PST up reply actions

Defensemen usually can’t get as many because they don’t move around as much; they either stay by the point or around the net. So it’s logical that Nichol has more.

That said, I think Murray is still in the top 10 in hits in the NHL, and his hits are certainly a lot bigger than most players’.

Oh my god they are homers, they talk like this is Ottowa’s game to win LOOK AT THE FRAKING SCORE!!!!! And oh god, just because Michalek has two goals this game, they are starting to wonder if Ottowa got the better end of the deal. Its funny, because they were like this for the San Jose-Edmenton game a couple days ago too. Dany Heatley, please get a hat trick to shut these frakkers up. I’ve noticed that when Greiss goes from post-to-post when the puck goes behind the net, he turns around facing the puck instead of pushing off backwards like Nabby does. It makes me a lot more nervous than Nabby’s way.

Greiss’s seems like it takes a bit longer to get into position than Nabby’s, and in a game where each millisecond counts, that could be a problem one day.

Of the options presented

Slapshot (inertia and momentum)
Wristshot (spring physics)
Wraparound (angular momentum)
Ice conditions (friction and deflections)

by Evilducks on Dec 1, 2009 9:45 PM PST up reply actions

No.

Wrist shots are defined by a weight shift in the legs from back foot to the front, while a sweeping motion is employed. Snap shots are more of an “arms-only” thing, chopping the puck like a golf ball in a sand trap.

I like my goals like I like my booze..... Top shelf.

by GhostOfLinkGaetz on Dec 1, 2009 9:45 PM PST up reply actions

Functionally

It works with the same physical princapals as a slap shot, just a lot less momentum going into the swing.

by Evilducks on Dec 1, 2009 9:46 PM PST up reply actions

To a certain degree, yes.

A snap shot would probably be more comparable to a slap shot, but the lack of using the weight transfer in your lower body makes it stand apart from all three of the other shots, because a backhand/wrist/slap shot all rely on lower body momentum to help the effects of trajectory, speed, and location of the shot.

I like my goals like I like my booze..... Top shelf.

by GhostOfLinkGaetz on Dec 1, 2009 9:50 PM PST up reply actions

I'm thinking more of the physics applied to the puck

The energy transfer and generation is basically the same. You may use different muscles, but the motion is similar.

I was trying to think of different ways to effect the puck.

You may also want to consider the advent of the curved blade vs. the old flat blades. That certainly changed things a ton.

by Evilducks on Dec 1, 2009 9:52 PM PST up reply actions

The effects of crappy ice on a shot ;)

But seriously, the difference in friction between ice that had been freshly zamboni’d and ice that is chewed-up/melted and how it affects a shot.

So...

Thomas Greiss is lookin pretty decent eh? I mean he’s a back up goaltender, some people have high expectations. Comparing him to Nabby isn’t really fair, cause you know, Nabby’s a pretty good goaltender.

by idunno723 on Dec 1, 2009 10:31 PM PST reply actions

Nabby

Gets a bit more consistent play as well.

I don’t think he’s as good as Nabby, at least not yet, but he’s got some skills.

Still, I think he’s a place holder for Stalock at this point.

by Evilducks on Dec 1, 2009 10:35 PM PST up reply actions

Still debating Greiss

Not sure how it looked on TV, but from my seats there were some very scary moments. Too many. Not that he was being helped much during those moments, but he gives me some pause still. I remarked to Mina that I disliked how surprised he looked by the puck sometimes.

warm

lots of CHEEEEECHOOOOOOOsssssssss and cheer for Milan. A ton of signs for Cheechoo and everyone who had either jersey was wearing it. There was some general grumbling after each of Milan’s goals. but more people CHEERED for him after than there were Sens fans in the building, so, there were no hard feelings.

Sens fans gave up their half hearted boos of Heatley pretty quickly.

I’m glad Cheech got a lot of cheers. Did they both get applause when shown on the jumbotron, or was only Cheech shown on the jumbotron?

Milan and Cheech were on the jumbotron at the same time…one right after the other. First Milan, then Cheechoo. Cheechoo got the biggest round of cheering, though.

That's really good to hear.

I am glad Sharks fans still could appreciate both of those guys, but especially Cheech. He may have had one great season, but he put up four solid years here. This is an open ended question, but do you guys feel Cheech’s injuries were what affected him or did teams figure him out?

I think injuries played a big part

but also the richard year just being right place right time. However, I object to those who would give Big Joe all the credit for that particular season, as though anyone playing on his line would produce similarly.

All I have to say about it is that no one else has (yet) scored 56 on Joe’s wing. So I think Cheech deserves a lot of credit, too. What a great Shark!

by a10dency2ask on Dec 2, 2009 12:36 AM PST up reply actions

A good question

I think Cheech’s injuries affected him more than anything. The difference between being a game-breaking NHLer and a 3rd/4th liner is so miniscule, and Cheech had a couple strikes against him to begin with.

His hands are sweet, and he has a scorer’s sense of where to find the open shooting lanes and empty space. But he’s slow, and for whatever reason takes a while to get going during the regular season.

Add to that his hernias and groin problems, and his core strength isn’t what it used to be, and that’s how he was able to fight off the D for space for a shot from the hash-marks in. And what allowed him to have such a heavy shot on the one-timers.

Maybe he came back too early from his injuries. Maybe those types of injuries are just too difficult to recover from for a player like Cheechoo.

It’s a bit like Arturs Irbe; he never was the same after his hand was bit by his dog.

BOO

there is one aspect where he edges Nabby IMO.

His pads look cooler.
