Scrappy win, but I’ll take it. Effort looked much much better in the second and the third.

Off to play NHL 09 if anyone’s interested.

Go Sharks.

I thought

the effort in the third was pretty damned good. That’s the kind of stuff we need to see.

Of course we had another game where their goalie looked like Hasik incarnate…but the results are what counts.

Oh, damned if Goc didn’t look pretty damned good tonight

I gotta be at work in a couple hours, so it’s adios folks…nice game

Haha

I remember this one episode of Late Night when the Oilers were in New York and there were two guys decked out in Oilers jerseys in the audience. Conan had a joke about Canada, and asked if there were any Canadians there. The guys cheered, of course, and then Conan commented that they must be playing the Rangers. He looked at his cue card, started laughing, and said, “Well, you guys are really going to like this one.”

“Canada was discussing to open a National Portrait Gallery. Yeah. But then they decided not to when they realized all the portraits they had were of Wayne Gretzky.”

Cue Oiler fans cheering their heads off. And – surprise, surprise – one of them was wearing a Gretzky jersey, and stood up and starting showing everybody and pointing at it. Conan ended up giving the guy the cue card.

A little off topic, but that’s what I was reminded of.

Wait - what?

Three stars of the game:
1 – Nabokov (duh)
2 – Hiller (understandable)
3 – Perry (WTF?!)

So, apparently scoring the game’s only goal isn’t enough to warrant a star, but cross-checking the opponent’s goaltender’s legs while he’s on the ground is. This confuses me.

by mymclife on Mar 15, 2009 10:39 PM PDT reply actions

(And yes, I know I’m over-simplifying things, but I still think Moen deserves a star much more than Perry does).

Jamie Baker agrees with you.

He was surprised that somehow a -1 with 2 PIM, 6 shots, 2 hits and 2 giveaways in 18:38 is more impressive than the game winning goal (on 2 shots) with 6 hits, a takeaway and 2 blocked shots in 16:51.

More like picked by the home team. Somebody on the home team (usually a broadcaster) will usually pick the three stars. I know Dan Rusanowsky does it for Sharks home games.

Bay Area born and bred.

by Nael M. on Mar 15, 2009 11:01 PM PDT up reply actions

if it's the broadcasters,

no wonder. I have Sirius and listened to the Postgame show as I was driving (Anaheim broadcasters, bleeccchhhhh), and all they did was bellyache about how lucky Moen was, how the goal was garbage, blah blah blah, and that the Ducks deserved a better fate.

Makes me proud to be a Sharks fan.

by Tahoe on Mar 15, 2009 11:05 PM PDT up reply actions

Usually it says who picks them on the NHL game summary, but this time it didn’t. Kind of odd, since its always been there before.

And I bet that they’re just bitter that in five games with the Sharks, Moen already has three points, including two goals – which is a third of his total goal production for this year so far.

by mymclife on Mar 15, 2009 11:27 PM PDT up reply actions

they must have a 'stars' contest

in anaheim, and perry needs the points or something. I don’t possibly see how any forward gets a star when you are shutout unless that forward is Selanne and got 15 shots on goal and was completely stoned or something akin to that.
