Could anybody help me out?
Hello, this is my first post. I have a question to ask around to the members of this site. Do you know of a nice beginning ice hockey league (low-key) that I could maybe sign up for? I am 16 years old (HS Junior and have 2 buddies who are interested with me) and I live in Santa Cruz. I used to play roller hockey for about 3 years, then quit because of school. I think it'd be fun to get back and play again. I wouldn't really mind playing with older people, I am pretty athletic/coordinated so I don't mind going up against people larger than me.
Also, have any good sites for some cheap gear? Only thing that fits is my helmet!
Thanks a lot.

Welcome!
Play it again sports is good for gear, if you don’t mind some stanky equipment.
As for the league, I play over at Logitech Ice. There are a few different age levels, and it’s a good place to start.
The hard part about finding a league is the limit of venues, Logitech is your best bet.

Yeah
venues is an issue that is okay, considering we will carpool I think it’ll be fine. What league would you recommend and how do I sign up? Also, how intense is the league, I’m looking for something pretty low key.

You can pick a league based on your skill level, so don’t worry. Also… PowerPlay Hockey by the rink isn’t too pricey… they have a back rack with a ton of last seasons gear. Works fine for me.

Not sure exactly what your price range is, but I always get my new gear from Hockey Monkey. They have some good deals and just about everything you want.
Play It Again works well too if that’s a little too pricey.

Thanks!
Any info on good places to play, beginner level etc. Or Logitech Ice for you too?

I’m actually located in Sunny Santa Barbara and go to school at UCSB. If you want to drive down to Oxnard (which is the nearest rink to my house), we can can definitely get a game going haha.
Logitech is very good- a couple of my buddies play there, and it looks like TCY does too. If you’re just getting back into the game, my recommendation would be to go to their open skate (I don’t know the current schedules, but if it hasn’t changed they have a couple during the week- TCY might be able to help you here). It’s a good way to get a feel for everything, and if there’s a goalie there you can practice on an actual human being instead of just trying to pick corners.
