That number doesn't even seem real right now. 82 freaking tilts. So many emotions that are bubbling to the surface. I'm not going to even attempt to form coherent sentences.
Possible playoff opponents. Presidents' Trophy still up for grabs. Lot's of questions, a lot of hand wringing.
In reality, none of this matters. What matters is Wednesday. A win tonight would be great; it is to be expected, and yearned for with the white hot passion of a thousand burning suns. A loss? Not the end of the world. Endlessly worrying about who we may face in the first round, who we match up well with, they're all good ways to get your jollies. At the end of the day however? Nothing but a recipe for gray hairs and the first sign of developing a nasty drug habit.
Last game thread of the regular season. Knock yourself out folks.
Prediction: FTF is shutting down the prediction portion for the playoffs. Might as well start now.
Go Sharks.

I imagine we are going to hear a lot of that from the media if we do face them.

This season has just been so magical
This is the greatest season I’ve ever seen as a 12 year Sharks fan. It does bring up so many emotions. I’m actually a little sad its over. But the playoffs are beckoning and I CAN’T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GENTLEMEN………. TO THE CUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm warning you! I have ADHD and I know how to use it!!!
Last game of the season
AND IT’S AT ONE O’CLOCK???!?!?!?!
So FTF help me make a decision. Get text updates from somebody without the joy of watching the game or watching the game later on demand and avoiding all media.
Do everything in your power to watch the game live!

That will be tough
I gotta lie to my parents, play with my puppy, take a plane ride somewhere, save children from a burning building, etc. You know… Just the usual
That's the usual?!?!?!?!
Please, try leading an organization composed of 100,000 members dedicated to the destruction of evil, flying in a classified aircraft at 150 ft at over a 1000 mph, and saving an island nation from fascism, and saving hundreds of children and elderly from an exploding building

Dude
You’re just gonna hafta man up here and make a decision. Tennis (white shorts, cute socks) or hockey! Need I say more?

GO SHARKS!!!
and unfortunately it’s unlikely I’ll be watching this last game. might be able to catch tidbits in the car, but my cousin is visiting (again) and so we’ll be out and about. but seeing how I’m not concerned if we get the President’s Trophy or not, the outcome of this game (as much as I would love the Sharks to win every single game) will not guide my mood. now come next week will be an entirely different matter.
again … GO SHARKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Representing the FTF brotherhood at Staples
Drove down to LA yesterday to visit my sister, snagged a few tickets for the game. Hoping Ill get to witness the Sharks win the Presidents Trophy (yes it’s not the most important thing, but anyone who says they don’t care is lying). It should be fun, but I want home-field through the cup so we can party at the Tank in game 1 of the Finals.
Me too
‘course I’m jealous of everyone, since I haven’t been able to go to a game all year. Next year though, whooooohooo. They’ll be back in Hotlanta and I’ll be there!

whoops
that should’ve been a reply. Anyways, Im rocking my Boyle jersey and blackhat, my sister’s wearing an original era teal jersey, and her bf is wearing a Marleau, 2nd era teal jersey. If you there and you see the three of us, say hello, as long as you aren’t a Kings fan.
Beat LA!
I hope the Sharks treat this game similar (but not completely the same) to a Game 7 situation. Because, chances are, if they lose this game they lose the President’s Trophy. Yeah, its not everything, but it will get them into the “must win” mentality needed for the playoffs.
Last year, the Sharks dropped their two games on the road to the Ducks and Stars. The games didn’t matter in the point standings (as they had already locked up the #2 seed in the West and overall in the league, and the Wings clinched the President’s Trophy), and so the Sharks pretty much took them off, outside of a certain player punching a certain pest (any excuse to post that video, lol). But, anyways, they went into the playoffs cold and not needing to win. So what happened? The Calgary series went to 7 games, and then they went down 3-0 to Dallas before clawing back to that 4OT Game 6.
IMO, if they go into the playoffs already in a must-win mentality, rather than waiting to switch it on, the team will be better for it.
And on another note, I just got my Sharks Pacific Division Champs tshirt yesterday. It made me all happy that they included Torrey Mitchell on the list of players on the back.
Woooo
Last game of the season, here’s hoping to this game being treated like a tune-up and they come out and play (and not have the Kings shot-block like crazy).
Since I want to see a Presidents’ Trophy and not see Anaheim in the first round, my rooting interests are as follows:
GO SHARKS!
LETS GO BUFFALO!
go ducks
I has good practice. Mike Grier keep shooting puck at me, and my confidence boosted very more. - "Evgeni Nabokov"
Ken Holland
answered one question about what the Wings were going to do with their roster after this season. Franzen signed an 11-year deal.
It takes a big man to cry and it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man. -Jamie Baker
So
Either no Hossa, or they’re going to be seriously screwed cap-wise the next few years.
Win-win for us, IMO ;)
Holy Shit!
11 years? That’s amazing with all the doubt about the salary cap

I know.
I’m really curious about the dollar value with it. They could be really screwed by the cap in a year or two.

Wow. I’m not quite sure how I feel about it just yet- two players under contract for 10+ years? No matter how good they may be now, you don’t know what can happen down the road.
Risky, if not unprecedented in the modern NHL.
Fear The Fin: Where The Second Round Is Overrated
Freaking insane. They’re really screwed cap wise, unless Franzen signed at like 1mil a year. Unlikely though.
$44 millon for the whole shebang according to a Swedish newspaper, so $4 million/year
I has good practice. Mike Grier keep shooting puck at me, and my confidence boosted very more. - "Evgeni Nabokov"
Wow
That is one hell of a deal if that’s accurate.
It takes a big man to cry and it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man. -Jamie Baker
by Lurker Shark on Apr 11, 2009 12:59 PM PDT up reply actions
I heard its front-loaded, but still. That’s completely insane. And the Wings are seriously going to be screwed cap-wise; it’ll be close to impossible to re-sign Hossa (he’s $7 million per and already took a discount), they already have no goaltending to speak of, and with the physical game Franzen plays his game might seriously deteriorate in the next 11 years (not to mention he’ll be 40 at the end of the deal).
Probably why they front-loaded it.
But yeah, they’re going to be in a Hossa or goaltending pinch. They might be able to get by with decent netminding, but that’s a hell of a risk. But as Dave said, Holland’s not known for screwing his roster. It’ll be interesting to watch what he does next at least.

I'm going to have to break down and get cable
Anyone know the absolute cheapest way to get Comcast with the Center Ice package? Can I get the basic cable plus the add on, or do I have to get the premium cable in order to add a package?
I have digital basic, which they forced me onto . You could probably do that and add on center ice but you’ll have to call them and ask. If you’re lucky your on demand will work.
resident cartoonist @couchtarts.blogspot.com
well, I guess $30 a month isn’t horrible, and Center Ice would just replace what I pay for Game Center. But still, $30 a month I’d rather not pay. I already increased the cellphone charges by $15-30 a month with the new iPhone. I should be cutting costs, not adding them. =(
$30 for 6, then it goes to $60. They wouldn’t let me take the new customer rate, despite being a new and rather reluctant digital customer. I was so annoyed.

So Comcast will end up being $60 a month for basic enough cable to add the Center Ice package. Anyone have cheaper alternatives?
Satellite any cheaper?
I already found out that the new AT&T U-verse does not have Center Ice available.
I think satellite can be cheaper.
I’ve got Comcast, but my friends with DirecTV have been very happy with it.

oh, and how ’bout these apples NHL:
I’ve got one option to follow my team: getting cable. If I break down and do that, I will have to take that $720 a year needed for the subscription out of the other “fun stuff” monies I have set away, which is usually used for, drum roll, tickets to Sharks games!
So, by giving in to the bully that is the cable companies and blacking out local game, I end up giving the money I would be giving directly to YOU to the cable company instead.

Just finished watching the first
Not bad, the Sharks had a lot of jump early on, even though the Kings sort of took over the rest of the period. The passes seem to be connecting more, there’s more work in the corners, and fewer stupid decisions are made. The play in the defensive zone is lacking, but not amazingly bad like some games this season.
Overall, I have more confidence that the Sharks will score again several times, in comparison to the last few games when I thought they would never, ever get the puck in the net.

That’s what has me still feeling pretty good despite the loss. Picking it up in the 3rd was a big big plus

Like Bakes
I’m concerned. Not freaking. But concerned
What team comes out this week in game one? The fast, big, powerful team, or the tenative one that can’t connect two passes in a row.
And I’m sorry….but Nabby is not sharp. Yes, he make some good saves, even a spectacular one or two. But he’s not sharp and I dare say he doesn’t look comfortable. We all know a team can ride a hot goalie a long ways into the playoffs (Pittsburgh and Fleury). I just hope he becomes Super Nabby, because right now, I’m not a confident guy here.

i agree about nabby
not hard to lose when the other team only needs 3 shots to win a game.
and meanwhile every shot the sharks take is off over or blocked.

that may be
but I have a self imposed rule about enjoying the parts of the season I can. And overall, it was a great ride, so I’m happy. Maybe I won’t be in two weeks, but that’s for then.

I totally understand where you’re coming from…but I feel like I need to say “don’t let the sand get in your eyes.” Not really, but the last week has concerned me.

I just wish we had some momentum

or some reason as fans
to believe this team has what it takes when they have shown they have not year in and year out?

I'm very very aware of what could go wrong
I’ve had first round jitters since…well, a long time ago. But I’m trying to save that panic for when it’s useful. And when comparing this season to last season, I find I can’t complain too much.
resident cartoonist @couchtarts.blogspot.com
for me
I look at it like this. You can come in firing on all cylinders and lose in round one. You can back in and lose in round one. You can come in anywhere in between and lose. You can also come in on any of the above scenarios and win. So, I’ll panic when I need to panic. I try to keep things in perspective.
Did they play as well as I would have liked all season? No,but they weren’t bottom feeders either. So I’m alright.

Yeah, you are looking at it in the right way. And, you’re right, there is no comparing this season to last. I think my (and others) apprehension comes from the difference in the first half of the season and that last. I think we got pretty pumped about how it went in ‘08 and when the league adjusted to us (and the injuries piled up) it looked like a bad second half. I don’t know if that’s actually the case, or just an excuse.
I’m just worried.

And I’m gonna be worried even if we are up 3-1 in the finals…I’ll be worried until we win the entire freaking thing.

I'm definitely not in panic.
If you’re hysterical right now, I suggest you guys not watch and save yourself some heart attacks and what not.
Maybe drinking some kool-aid, but I’m really happy where we’ve come so far.
So either we lost our game, or other teams really picked up theirs. A season’s a long time, things change. Heck, one week can change things a lot. I really liked the way we played the final few in Calgary, Edmonton, Anaheim. That put us in the position we are in right now, winning the President’s Trophy. And one week we lose against Phoenix and LA, and don’t put one on goal in Colorado. Is it practice? Maybe. It’s all in their heads now.
We’ll see come Wednesday/Thursday. Might be same, might be different.
But this is where we’d all know where we’d be in the beginning of the season. If anyone asked where we’d want to be after season’s over, isn’t it here? Tops in the NHL?
Thing is
they’ve rolled into the playoffs on hot streaks before and gave us a reason to believe, only to disappoint us anyway.
As I’ve said on another board, I don’t buy the “how they play in the last week is how they’ll play in the playoffs” mantra some folks are believing. The regular season and playoffs are two different kinds of animals.
I has good practice. Mike Grier keep shooting puck at me, and my confidence boosted very more. - "Evgeni Nabokov"
Whatever the case may be, I’m worrying about all that shit on Monday.
The playoffs are stressful enough. I’m just getting ready for the ride.

Very interesting
This season, the Sharks have lost every day that they clinched something. Pacific Division? Lost to Phoenix. Western Conference? Lost to Phoenix. President’s Trophy? Lost to LA. Thing is, they can’t back into a Stanley Cup.
I liked how things were going in the third period with scoring chance after glorious scoring chance, but the fact that they gave up four goals is always concerning. And the lack of 5 on 5 scoring is worrisome, especially since things won’t be called as often in the playoffs. But still – 3 goals from Setoguchi, Pavelski, and Marleau means that the top two lines are starting to heat up again, and those near misses by Clowe is showing he’s getting back to game form again as well.
