We could come here and talk about how the the team needs to counter Carlyle's neutral zone neutering of San Jose. We could come and bitch about how Hiller has been a man on a mission and done an extraordinary job, why two potential game-tying shots rang off the post, how Marchant has won nearly 70% of the draws he has taken in the defensive zone. We could question if Marleau is still injured, why Thornton can't take over a playoff game, how a team that had so much promise is down in a 2-0 series hole. We could whine about how the Ducks have taken advantage of their opportunities while the Sharks have not.
To hell with all that. It's time to get a W.
If anyone has given up hope, by all means jump off the bandwagon. If anyone is so certain that this team (which has strung multiple wins together all season) does not stand a chance against the Anaheim Ducks, come back during the "inevitable early offseason." We'll be here. If we expect the Sharks to show the heart that everyone and their mother claims they lack, it's time for us to show some heart ourselves. It's okay to be critical of this team- anyone who has peeked their head around FTF this season knows that. But to throw them under the bus after two losses is ludicrous.
Fact is, they've played well during the last two games. Not well enough to win, which is the ultimate barometer of success at this stage in the season, but well enough to believe that they are very able to claw their way back into this series. They haven't caved. They haven't sat back and let Anaheim push them around physically. They haven't refrained from fighting to the front of the net. They have gotten pucks on Hiller. They have taken the steps that inevitably lead to victory.
I fully expect to see these traits tonight.
All the complaining that has invaded the city of San Jose like a backed up sewer system expelling turds down West Santa Clara Street is as repulsive as it sounds. Save yourself a prison sentence and shoot the puck around in your garage. Drink a fifth, urinate all over yourself, pass out on your neighbor's front lawn while your dignity is still intact. We're all pissed off, but there's no reason to turn on each other. Most importantly, there is sure as hell no reason to turn on our team. Not at this stage of the game.
I received a call from my friend early Monday morning, presumably just before he was preparing to phone suicide watch. It was like that time Matt Damon called Leonardo Dicaprio in The Departed, a moment where no one wants to utter the first word. He finally whispered, "This could be the worst disaster San Jose has ever faced."

"With all due respect sir, I believe this is gonna be our finest hour."
Prediction: Sharks win 4-1. Goals by Marleau, Cheechoo, Ehrhoff, and Boyle. Two come on the powerplay, one comes off the crossbar.
Go Sharks.

Sharks can do it
The power play is going to break open soon enough. Caps just won 4-0 on NYR ice. If they carry the same work ethic they had last game, they’re bound to get some quality chances on Hiller. And by game 3, I’m sure they’ll have figured out some of tendencies by now.

The Sharks need to do the same thing the Caps did
The reason the Caps scored 4 goals is they took the puck to the net. Hopefully the Sharks will take a page out of the same book and drive the net with the puck. So far other than Cheech’s goal the vast majority of shots have come from the perimeter. If the Sharks cane take the puck to the net and clean up there passing, (especially on the power play) I think they can win the series. Oh yeh and quit shooting low on a goalie that go’s down early!

I agree with this
I’ve been seeing too many rushed shots from the point for my tastes, I think it’s contributing to the powerplay not being able to set up

I agree
We need to remember that Hiller is a Rook, and while he’s been fabulous so far, he’s still a Rook. And Rook’s make Rook mistakes, especially when they are rattled. It’s time to rattle his ass………………

Fantastic!
Absolutely the best game day write up of the season for you! Well said.

I'll be quiet on the boards today...
I have a ton of REAL work to do. However, I’ll be out in full force for tonight’s game.
Here’s hoping the Sharks pull a Washington and rightfully spank the lesser team.

Great 8
What I hope to see is our own Great 8 rise from his shell and regain his past playoff performance. If Pavs gets going, the feathers will start flying on the ice.
Chicken Little here
“Oh yee of little faith – want a cookie?” (quote from Mallrats)
I’m not “off the bandwagon” – but I still am not confident. There’s a difference between feeling doubt and being fair-weathered – I for one am not going to be jingoistic in my teal patriotism.
Regardless – am I going to root for the Sharks tonight? Absolutely. CAN we get this series back together? Yes – but like I said, I’m not too confident that this WILL happen.
Disclaimer – I haven’t watched the highlights from the last two games yet (I just got back yesterday from Israel). Maybe we played well, and Hiller played out of his mind – I’ve heard variants of this report from my friends. Tonight I will sit back with a beer in hand, and pray that the Sharks cut the Ducks’ lead in half…. and then tie it on Thursday.
The Ducks are going to do everything in their power to go up 3-0 tonight – the Sharkies better go over the top to redefine the series.
Chicken Little, over and out.

Nice new signature by the way
Game 6 of the 2nd round last year probably took 10 years off my life – I was literally laying down, begging for water, for fear that I would go into cardiac arrest. My left arm WAS tingling, no joke. I was even more overweight then than I am now, so even at the age of 26, I was at risk.
This year – I’ve staying calm by prepping myself in advance for an early exit. This way I’ll preserve my health and my sanity. If the Sharks manage to get it together and gather up 4 wins, my health might suffer… but I’m willing to make the sacrifice.
Regardless – I’m not the “I told you so” type, so I’ll lay low if we lose.
And now for some uncharacteristic enthusiasm that just struck me – WE’RE TAKING BACK THIS SERIES!!!!
Sorry – ADD moment. Gotta run now, see you guys around the 2nd period (parent-teacher meeting tonight until 7:30).

Seriously?
That crosses several lines of sanity. You better have a doc on speed dial. No joke!

Ha!
Dead serious – I was at 99 Bottles in Santa Cruz, wearing my Cheechoo jersey (which wasn’t as out of place as it usually would be in SC), with several eye witnesses / caretakers / fellow Sharks fans.
They helped explain my health to passersby – “He has a lot more invested in this than the rest of us.”
Direct quote, by the way – I was flattered in the midst of my near-death experience.

Did Todd McClellan screw up the system?
Check out this interesting blog post about what may have gone wrong with the Sharks. I think its right about McClellan tweaking the system too much in the second half of the season: http://sfbaysportsblog.blogspot.com/2009/04/san-jose-sharks-ultimate-case-of-it-it.html.

Yes, excellent preview
Ill admit to being a bit of a doomsayer on Sunday night, but this is a great opportunity for the Sharks to start exercising some demons. Here’s hoping they come out, keep it simple and outwork the Ducks again.
Good to see the score predictions have returned!
A few notes.
-Take the puck top shelf. Hiller drops to his knees far too early, too often, and the only person who’s made him pay for that is Cheechoo.
-The fire I saw the sharks play with in the last 5 minutes of game 2 is what I want to see on the ice for 60 minutes tonight. They’ve got their backs against the wall, here, but I think we all know that they’re more than capable of playing out of this hole.
-No more defensive lapses after a frustrating turn in the ducks zone. Get back and help Nabby out. I’d like to see a few less blown tires as well.
I'll be out on the road today...
Maybe me not being on FTF today will bring some good luck.
A 2-0 series lead’s not scary, and I think we’ve put good pressure on, especially in game 2.
This is the game we break through.
So I shaved and I'm back in Chicago,
and I’m hoping that those two factors combined will get the Sharks’ voodoo going. In case superstitions don’t work, here’s to hoping our boys have been hustling the Ducks and will break out with the “W” tonight.
I'm debating whether or not to excorcise my playoff beard* too

Did you see Marty after the game?
He went after the refs, got in their face, the ref got back in his face, and then he slashed the boards big time twice with his stick and threw his stick, storming off the ice. Don’t know if he was complaining about the non-call with 3 seconds left when he was way out of the crease, or if he was claiming the period was over. And, the Carolina fans were lovely, throwing shit at him. The NHL doesn’t have the balls to give him a match over something like that, but that could be a turning moment for the series.

My reaction to the first period:
AKKJSKFHGLKGH;LKSAFKHGH;AOSGHAGSH!!!!!!!!!!!1
Well, that was just my reaction to Torrey Mitchell being in the lineup and all of his subsequent shifts. There was a much more subdued reaction to the fact that the Sharks scored the first goal, they broke the PP curse, and all of Murray’s wall-like hits.
Definite negative reaction to each of the Ducks’ goals, and Pavelski’s phantom trip just prolonged my hatred towards Mike Cvik, the Pavelski-hating linesman (including tonight, he has been the linesman for a phantom headbutt, a phantom dive, and a phantom trip all called on Pavelski).
But all that is trivial compared to the fact that TORREY MITCHELL IS BACK!!!!!
Once they said Mitchell was back in, I got around 5 texts from different people telling me how excited they were

by WhoseYourNabby? on Apr 21, 2009 9:36 PM PDT up reply actions
Alright
Despite having a broken/hurt/we have absolutely no idea what the hell went wrong with his leg since the second day of training camp and only playing two games professionally this year (both of which in Worcester), he has come out with an amazing amount of jump and speed. He’s not afraid to hit people, and often he has planted his butt in front of the net, showing that he’s not afraid of the rough stuff. He has dug pucks out of corners, stolen pucks from the Ducks, and provided the great amount of D that we knew last year. On one of the icings by the Sharks, which was really an easy touch-up for the Ducks because of the close proximity of their players to the puck, Mitchell almost got there despite being all the way down the ice. He was never known to have the best hands in hockey (his puckhanding skills were less than desirable last season), and yet he has had some great passes and created some good scoring chances.
Basically? Torrey Mitchell is amazing.

last night the pirates drew what looked like 150 people. it was rainny, cold, and miserable last night so its kind of unstandable.
its been rainy the past 2 days. its suppose to be in the mid to upper 70 friday and saturday. im psyched. i don’t know how many of you know this but pittsburgh has more cloudy/rainy days than seattle so the sun is a big deal to us pittsburghers

not only
are the sharks going to game 5, but so am I and Mr. Plank.
also, we’re going to win on thursday, leaving people saying, “I thought the ducks taking the first two was a big deal.” turns out it wasnt.
finally, to game 5 the four of us are wearing t-shirts that say-
front: we’re going duck hunting
back: puck the ducks
and camo pants.
Sharks in 6 baby.
Awesome.
I’ll be at game 5. We’re getting beers.

Versus said
that when Dan Boyle won in Tampa they lost the first two at home and came back to win 4 straight. Lets hope he can bring the same magic but more importantly bring more of the same that he brought tonight.
Ill check
but i hope so.. haha if not id feel pretty pissed versus lied to me.. then again i wouldnt be suprised
It'd wouldn't be that bad if they lied about it.
They did give us cleavage tonight after all.

That is NOT correct
However, the Lightning were down 3 games to 2 in the SCF against the Flameouts, and came back and won Game 6 in double OT in Calgary, and then won Game 7 in Tampa
Wow
the versus guy clearly said they went down 2-0 at home and came back to win 4 games during their run to the stanley cup. im trying to see if it was the other 3 series not specifically the cup finals
I checked all of the games...
it didn’t seem to be any of them.

So in keeping with my change my shirt/jersey/hat for every period if we are behind and not wear any gear the next time,I went with my desperation mode not to watch at all.Checked online saw we scored first and spent the next loooong and hot night checking back at the score.Power play 2-4.Big guys on the board.Funny how all of the Ducks fans I know stopped sending me messages or leaving voice messages.Luckily I have the next game day off as I now have to wear the same clothes…Are we out of the woods?Hardly. Our yearlong of gaining home ice is gone.We need 3 of 4.Game 4 is the most important of the year.Nabby has to be great not good.8 goals on half as many shots may get us by this series but not much farther. He has to steal a game or 2 sometime…Why not Game 4.He has it in him.Step up guys.Go and get game 4 like you went and got this one.
