Leadership...
So i thought i would create a fan post, it is my first so bear with me.
According to Merc's write Mark Purdy, our Sharks captain must go.
the article waxes somewhat eloquently about presidents and other things, but the meat is here:
He has to be traded, even if he has a no-trade clause. Why would Marleau even want to come back? This was his fifth season as team captain and either his teammates are not following his quiet leadership or else the leadership is non-existent. There are no other possibilities.
harsh, and it pains me to say it, but i somewhat agree. i do not agree that he has to be traded per se, In fact, he is probably too valuable as a franchise kind of guy, loved by the community, all class, and notches some clutch goals. I just do not think the evidence is there for the guy to remain captain of this team. (see Captain brendan Morrow)
so who then?
some have suggested boyle, but i dont like the idea of a defenseman being captain. i want a guy who can muck it up in front of the opponents net and not lose the zone faceoff.
my vote, in the morrow like role, would be our own Ryan Clowe.
chime in.

I changed my mind
He’s an idiot. Not a moron. I just sent him an email and told him that

I dislike him greatly
I heard him on the radio once talking about the Sharks. It was just a terrible interview. He said some dumb stuff.
I had fun watching the Sharks, point of being a fan right?

i dont think the opinion is limited to purdy
i think the theme has been consistent enough for the past few seasons so warrant serious discussion.

Just Purdy, people who take stock in the writing of Purdy.
and people who want to kiss Purdy on the balls.

In all seriousness...
I’ve read a lot today about how many seasons it was before Steve Yzerman won his first cup as a captain.
13.
Marleau has had 5.

@Morti: yep
I think a lot of the frustration with Patty is based off a) us not having a clue what goes on inside the locker room and b) the over all frustration and burning desire in the region to have a championship team again. This is not to say I have never criticized him. I have. I just don’t feel it is entirely appropriate to place this all on his shoulders.
The players say that they stand by Patty. That was pretty evident last season when the RW saga was unfolding. McLellan felt he was right for the role and kept him when he could have mixed things up. For me, that’s enough to tell me he’s a good pick, even if he isn’t always what people want to see.

There is no doubt in my mind that Patty was playing hurt.

In less seriousness...
Todd calls DW in the night to tell him there has been a huge fire at the Shark Tank.
DW says: Is everyone OK? Did the fire damage any of the cups?
Toddster says: Nah, the fire didnt get as far as staff restaurant.

I don't think I have to tell anyone how I feel about Purdy...
He still hasn’t responded to my email, btw.

Let me rephrase 1 sentence...
According to Merc’s writer Mark Purdy, our Sharks captain must go.
According to Merc’s writer Mark Purdy, who only covers the Sharks during the playoffs and probably couldn’t tell the difference between a forecheck and a forehead, our Sharks captain must go.

I agree
Purdy has exited the playoff’s early again! Second season in a row. He just didnt want it enough. He didnt write with enough heart. Also, just like Joe Thornton, he doesnt want to talk to his detractors either. Coincidence?

Or Tampa
That way we are not likely to hear from him again, and he can concentrate on writing incendiary articles about the team’s ownership instead of the action on the ice.
Koules! Make it happen.

It was a toss-up between the two. But since Montreal is a bit more sensationalist, quick to place blame, and make their players into deities (Lecavailer to Montreal! Kovalev sucks! Jesus Price!), they have the edge. Tampa is just a circus.
Although, Tampa’s completely insane business plan could cause his head to explode, which would be awesome.
I guess the question is… “Our beloved Los Relámpagos” or “Our beloved Los Canadienses.”

Montreal it is! Maybe we could sneak Purdy across the border like Mr. K.
However I would settle for Our beloved Los Baños. Which I where I think he sits when he write these articles.

You gotta feel for Purdy. The Merc (and papers in general) are in trouble, so he resorts to writing sensationalist, hyperbolic shit.
See ya guys lat…. oh, what’d you say? He’s made a career out of this?
Purdy = Joke. We probably should run a Photoshop Expo of him during the summer.
