I'd think Boyle would be our best Norris trophy candidate...

Otherwise it looked pretty fair. Norris trophies usually go to Lidstr…I mean, a good offensive defensemen. And Boyle has had the points, the highlights, and aint too shabby back on D either. Vlasic has been good, no doubt, but from a voters’ standpoint, Boyle would be the Sharks’ best shot at winning that trophy.

I agree

I know Vlasic has been a very, very solid defender but Boyle has the sexier numbers. But I know Lidstrom usually wins the Norris, but my Easter Conference Hockey Boyfriend Mike Green has been having a monster season for the Caps.

I completely agree with Marleau for the Hart. If the award was really about the player most valuable to his team (instead of just the best season), I would expect to see him as a nominee.

Green is gonna win...he's been a beast.

But Boyle could actually be a finalist this season…

I have similar feelings. Vlasic’s been good, but I’d go with Boyle for the Norris this season.

Marleau for the Hart all the way.

Definitely agree, and while I think Dan Boyle does have the sexier offensive numbers, I thought it would be prudent to give Vlasic the credit he deserves. This isn’t taking anything away from Boyle or anything of the sort. It really was a toss up.

Hell, it probably came down to the fact that I disagree with the fact that it has become an offensive award. If the Sharks have a one goal lead with one minute left, Vlasic is my go to guy.

I’m not saying you made a bad choice, Plank. I’m just saying I would have made another one. ;)

For the record...

I’m in agreement with Plank.

Looks good to me boss.

As for Vlasic or Boyle, even considering (maybe despite of) man-crushes I can’t make that call. I’ll leave it to my trusty old flippin coin.

yep

I agree it’s up to a coin toss, to us Shark fans.

For the real voting Boyle will most likely get more votes than Pickles cause that new offensive thingy is the cool thing nowadays.

If Vlasic does get votes, it would be cool because he’s the underrated, unsung hero sort-of guy. Vlasic does deserve some mention, but for the real voting he probably won’t pick up many votes.

And if Boyle isn’t a finalist I call east-coast bias already. ;)

I'm also totally cool with the choice

I just would have fallen on the side of Boyle were I the one forced to pick..
I’d be jazzed if Vlasic got nominated.

Besides, Plank asked for discussion! :)

Vlasic

If Vlasic works on his slapshots from the point, I see him as a future Rob Blake/Dan Boyle/Mike Green/Nick Lidstrom behemoth in the form of a pickle. There is no questioning his genius on defense, but sometimes he is frustrating on the powerplay. Almost every single time, he fans on the shot, and I sit in front of my tv groaning with my head in my hands :(

Let the end of the world begin with us!!

i agree with you,

but there is no way in hell a guy like vlasic wins the norris these days, that would be cool though, he deserves it.

I don't like you Detroit.

I agree with some of them...

Hart: Joe Thornton — He controls the offensive play. Team-wise he is 3rd in goals, but leads the team in assists and points.

Norris: I agree on Vlasic. While Boyle and Rob Blake have the prettier numbers, Vlasic is nearly flawless every single shift he is on the ice.

Vezina: Who else are we going to nominate? Boucher hasn’t played enough games to qualify + this would be the 4th or 5th year in a row Nabokov is a runner-up for the trophy.

Calder: Eh… none of the Sharks’ rookies have truly stood out and shown extraordinary skills, but at the same time you have to feel understanding for them considering they play on a team of all-stars. I would nominate Tomas Plihal. Yes, yes he helped Anaheim score a goal, but he has been the only Shark rookie that was never sent back down to Worcester, has slightly better numbers than McGinn, and has been consistent for 61 games this season.

Selke: Patrick Marleau — the guy is a brilliant player that keeps a calm and collected personality on and off the ice, which is a very valuable aspect to a defensive and offensive player. When on defense he doesn’t fold to pressure easily and commit to an opposing player just, because he has the puck; no instead he keeps his head on a swivel and attempts to read the play. Whilst on offense if you watch most of his goals, they’re all off of the weirdest and most unexpected plays, whether it is Marty Turco screwing up in the last minute of play or one of Joe Thornton’s amazing passes through 3 different defenseman, Patty Marleau is there ready to finish it.

Let the end of the world begin with us!!
