is this guy even a very good prospect?

i don’t know much about him but his stats sure aren’t great

I don't like you Detroit.

I’m not too sure how to interpret prospect stats but Hockey Futures predicts him to be a 4th liner at best.

Here’s his “Talent Analysis”:

McCarthy is a tough, competitive centerman who grew into one of Boston University’s most effective penalty killers this season. He possesses loads of energy, a great work ethic and is a relentless battler. He is very aggressive on the forecheck and doesn’t shy away from the physical aspects of the game. McCarthy is a powerful skater with good speed. The defensive side of his game is quite good, taking very good care of his own end and showing a willingness to block shots. McCarthy is a player who is difficult to play against, particularly along the boards and in the corners where he has proven to be very effective. He possesses a good, hard shot and can get pucks off very quickly. While McCarthy isn’t likely to become a high-scoring forward, his offensive production should continue to increase with the growth and development of his game.

I had fun watching the Sharks, point of being a fan right?

Yeah...

Good dig up idunno.

He’s never been an offensive master, so I don’t see that coming to the table any time soon. If he continues on his current path, I’m seeing a poor man’s Travis Moen.
