Worcester Watch: It Takes Two to Make a Thing Go Riiight...

Stanley Cup of Chowder

[Note]: Make sure to visit the  Worcester Sharks' webpage for all your Worcester needs. You can watch the game through AHL Live for $8.00 per game or $40.00 per round.

We recently commented on Worcester's defensive miscues, citing a need to improve defensively in order to make this series competitive. Either the Worcester Sharks read this blog, or the coaches saw the same things we did (TCY's ego goes with option one, TCY goes with... toss up). The AHL Sharks' defense came up huge against Providence in game four, earning a 2-2 series tie and a Thomas Greiss shutout in the process.

Star-divide

I'm actually starting to like this funky away-home-away-etc. playoff format. After Worcester grabbed momentum in Providence in game three, they were able to immediately use it to their advantage in game four at home. Now that the series is tied, it becomes a best-of-three that starts tonight in Providence.

Only one goal was scored in Saturday's contest (by Tom Cavanagh in the first period), but it proved to be enough to ensure a Worcester victory. The defense was amazing, and Greiss played out of his head yet again. Not only did Worcester survive a 5-3 in the second period, but they were also able to fend off a desperate Bruins team at the end of the game. The Bruins, down 25-13 in the shot clock with seven minutes left in the third, outshot the Sharks 12-2 in the final minutes but couldn't get past Greiss in the crease. (Or, Greiss in the criess, for you phonetics fanatics).

As much as I love the 1-0 win, only a few things made this game exciting.

  1. Greiss
  2. McGinn dropping the gloves
  3. The Announcers ("How's the ceiling look  Vladimir?")
  4. The relative wooziness incurred from the fumes while recaulking my shower during the first and second intermissions.

One goal won't be enough tonight against Providence. However, if the Sharks are able to eek out a win, they'll have two chances to close out the Bruins, with one coming at home on Wednesday.

Go Little Sharks!

Prediction: Sharks win 3-2 on goals by McLaren (Frazer), Couture, and Vesce. Rask throws something.

love the WorSharks' fight

They don’t play the most attractive hockey, but they manage to be effective in the only category that really matters, wins. It’s different people each night too (with the exception of Greiss who’s been good all playoffs long). Can’t wait for this one.

Don't get me wrong...

this was a very good game with tons of fight in both teams. However, I enjoyed the game three track meet more… but I’ll take a win however it comes.

Yeah, no question. I wasn’t disagreeing with you’re assessment of the game, just making general comments. It’s good to see that our prospects learning that you can play and win thrillers like Game 3, but then turn around and win a real grinder like Game 4. No two games will be the same and each one requires re-focusing and re-committing – something the senior club still hasn’t really figured out.

Looks like FTF has some fans in Worcester...

“Game 5 is Monday night in Providence with game 6 going down at the DCU center on Wednesday night. And Worcesterites take note, the fans in San Jose are watching what is going on in Worcester. Since the first round upset of the parent club it seems that some of the San Jose fanbase have shifted their eyes and ears upon Worcester. Check out the “Fear The Fin” messageboard link below. These hard core Sharks fans in California are streaming the Worcester games live and commenting on the their blog."

I almost signed up to comment the other night after first finding this fine blog, but now that you guys have found my blog and FTF shout out I knew I had to create an account.

I’m sitting in Worcester listening to the WTAG feed, I’ll be at Wednesday’s game and any homegame thereafter if and when the boys advance! Happy to join in and add a little perspective from the ground!

Not able to watch it live?

Obviously many of us work during the week, making 4:00pm puck drops hard to watch live – which unfortunately is the case for me today. AHL Live archives the games though, and they only cost $4.00 as opposed to $8.00.

$4 is just a wee bit too much for me. I’m also close to unemployed. Micro payments, guys. MICRO PAYMENTS!

Starting with this round of the the playoffs they have been running a half hour highlight and interview show on game nights at 10:30pm and 11:30pm.

Hey man

I liked your “site” quote =

I watched 79 games last season and the other 3 I listened to the end of the game on the radio. Now, I don’t want to say I’m a “true” Sharks fan because the term “true fan” is a joke. When someone wants to tell someone they watch the Sharks some say they are a “true fan.” A true fan wouldn’t say they’re a “true fan.” Than people call other people “true fans.” They only say that to show they are such good fans that they have the ability to call someone a “true fan.” I used to think a “true fan” is a myth. Not anymore. A true fan is a person who knows their stuff, loves the team, and doesn’t show off their “knowledge.” Not the dude at the bar (restaurant in my case) that rambles on, speaking loudly, about how Thornton makes assists not score goals. True fans are rare.

Fear the Fin: Where we just have to want it more!

by That'll Cheech You on May 11, 2009 6:11 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

He dropped his gloves, right?

So he’s off for fighting?

And he was throwing punches with his blocker – attempt to injure match penalty. Please call it! And have Rask get thrown out!

Woooooo!!!!

Goalie goes bye bye!

WITH INTENT TO INJURE!

Fear the Fin: Where we just have to want it more!

WTF?

Rask gets two minutes for roughing? BULLSHIT!

by mymclife on May 11, 2009 6:13 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Who is the backup goalie?

Damn I need to spend $8 like right now.

Fear The Fin = We're not as think as you drunk we are.

by Mr. K. on May 11, 2009 6:13 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Doesn't matter, apparently

Rask just gets a minor. The Sharks end up shorthanded. Complete bullshit, but we can’t do anything about it.

What a bunch

Of hooie.

by SetoThorMarChooSki on May 11, 2009 6:14 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Soooo....

Let me get this straight… OUR player gets attcked by the friggin goalie, and THEY get a power play?? What the hell?

Prolly

Who the hell knows…. I’m about done with this AHL shit thought… What a fuckin joke

by SetoThorMarChooSki on May 11, 2009 6:17 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not just that

But Rask was punching with his blocker. One of the rules for fighting is that a player cannot punch another with something extra on their hand. Doing so will result in an attempt to injure match penalty and a mandatory one game suspension. Ott was assessed one of those back when he was wearing a brace on his wrist and fought against the Ducks.

Therefore, since Rask was punching with his blocker, he should have been thrown out. Instead, just a roughing minor. Absolute bullshit.

ECHL South Carolina wins!

EN caps it and the Stingrays win 3-1 to take a 2-0 lead over Cincinnati. (X-Stockton captain plays for SC)
Now I can refocus on AHL Sharks/Bruins and NHL Caps/Pens
Good thing the A’s aren’t playing tonight…

According to the NHL ticker

Hawks outshooting 6-2… that’s all I have to go on.

I propose

That if Marchand ever makes it to the NHL, whenever his team comes to the Tank we boo him, in the style of Pronger and Campbell.

Most fans won’t get it, but he’s definitely more deserving of it than Campbell is.

by mymclife on May 11, 2009 6:21 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I'm with you on that

We can add Marchand to the list with Pronger and Campbell

Don't forget

Scott Hannan.

And I repeat

Can we just not count the second period? I mean, its only fair with all the douchebaggery conducted by Marchand and the missed match penalty for Rask.

by mymclife on May 11, 2009 6:32 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

incredibly unfortunate

to have that 4th PB goal stand as the game-winner (sniped off the center ice face-off immediately following the WS goal)
The 5-0 streak ends
