Sports Illustrated has just put out their lists of the top 5 and worst 5 owners in each of the major sports, and the Sharks' ownership group, San Jose Sports and Entertainment, was named the 4th best NHL owner.

YEAHHHH

(I’ll take that as an accomplishment, the Sharks won something, sort of)

Also Sharks are the only West Coastie team.

Yay

Except, the credibility of the rankings is kind of damaged when you realize that the Sharks’ ownership group isn’t SJSE, but SVSE (Silicon Valley Sports and Entertainment). And the fact that the Barrie and Koules tandem isn’t listed as one of the worst five owners despite running what can only be described as a “circus.”

“Circus” being a euphemism for “absolute shit show”, no?

Glen Sather also gets a nod here. Those Gomez and Drury contracts are horrendous.

Seriously

I mean, some of the bottom 5 deserve it – Wang and the Atlanta Spirit immediately spring to mind – but a team like the Predators doesn’t. I mean, its kind of hypocritical that the Penguins can be ranked so highly by sucking for a long time and then building itself through the draft after almost relocating, while the Predators are ranked so low because they have sucked for a long time and is building itself through the draft after almost relocating.

And the fact that the most profitable franchise is ranked as having the worst owners blows my mind.

Clearly

This was just an attempt by SI to prove they really don’t know what they’re talking about when it comes to the NHL.
