Free agent wish list

Before i start rambling i want to acknowledge that there won't be a lot of cap space for the Sharks this summer.

But that doesn't mean that after re-signing a player or two(such as Clowe, Mitchell, or Moen) and after the salaries are raised for our young defensemen(Murray, Ehrhoff, Vlasic) that we won't have some money left to bring in a free agent or two.

So i want to rostercourse with some of you and see what you guys think of good potential fits for the San Jose Sharks.

Free agents that intrigue me include:

Daniel Sedin(LW)

Henrik Sedin(C)

Jay Bouwmeester(D)

Mike Cammalleri(C)

Marion Gaborik(RW)

Scott Neidermeyer(yeah i know, but still)(D)

Martin Havlat(RW)

Alex Tanguay(LW)

Erik Cole(LW)

All the players i mentioned above are relatively young except for Neidermeyer because i would prefer the Sharks invest in younger players who are entering or are in their prime.

Thoughts?

All would be great, I just wonder about how San Jose would end up fitting under the cap. Most of those players will be commanding roughly 5 million apiece, and being in their prime, would likely want somewhere around a four year deal. We’d definitely have to move some big salaries (Error, Milan, etc.) to accommodate these guys.

I’d mark most of these down as highly unlikely, unfortunately.

Well, the Sedins and the Neidermayers will want to stay together, so their cap hit will be much larger than just one player. The Sedins I could see going for $11+ million easy, and that’s even giving them much less than they’re asking for (they want about $7 million each). Both Marleau and Thornton would have to be moved to make this a really viable option, and, IMO, the Sedins aren’t worth that.

And then the Neidermayers… Well, we’re pretty good on defense already (unless we want to swap out one SoCal HOF defenseman for another) and Rob would just be another grinder, who we have plenty of (although, I have hear that he’s great at empty netters, which is definitely a skill the Sharks are lacking). I don’t know, I don’t really want to be Anaheim North.

Bouwmeester is easily going to get $7 million, and I honestly don’t want two defensemen making that kind of money. Plus, he’s never played in the playoffs before, and choked away his chance this year – not exactly a guy that the Sharks need. Gaborik is so injury-prone that I don’t want to risk it, and Cammalleri just came off a career year and will likely be commanding more than he’s worth.

I’d say that the Sharks aren’t going to make huge splashes in the free agent market, barring any unforeseen circumstances (i.e. Clowe not resigning). I see some trades or minor free agents, but that’s about it.

Yea, this list is pretty much the biggest names on the free agent market. Although I wouldn’t be opposed to siging most of them, I just don’t think there’s any way it happens, barring some huge trades for picks.

There are however a few FA’s that I have interest in that have fallen somewhat off the radar. Ville Koistinen, although prone to injuries, is a Dan Boyle type defenseman who would pair well with the physical Murray. Taylor Pyatt, who’s a gritty 3rd line type, is also intriguing.

I’d like to go after Cammalleri, but we’d obviously have to move one of our top 6 forwards. I think there’s a way for the Sharks to acquire prospects and more draft picks (we currently only have 4 in this draft) for a big contract or two and then turn around and use the money that would’ve been committed to them to sign Cammalleri or maybe Havlet or another top end forward.

I also don’t see how the Sedins can stay together unless they’re willing to take substantially less then they’d earn as individual free agents.

Oh, so that's where you edit your signature

Hossa anyone?

I don't like you Detroit.

he's like 34

and Wings and Centers don’t age as well as Defensemen
plus he said this off season when he signs he wants to stay with that club for the rest of his career
so lots of years for lots of money and most likely declining performance=no thanks
