ECF Game 3 Open Thread

From the NHL: “If both Conference Final series have been decided by Tuesday, May 26, the Western Conference winner would host Game 1 of the 2009 Stanley Cup Final on Thursday, May 28. Otherwise, Game 1 will be played on Friday, June 5.”

Guess the finals will start on June 5 then

Because Game 5 (a potentially deciding game) of the WCF is on May 27. There is no hockey scheduled on Monday (holiday) OR Thursday of next week, by the way.

Here’s the schedule for the rest of the series.

Sunday 5/24 = WCF Game 4
Tuesday 5/26 = ECF Game 4
Wednesday 5/27 = WCF Game 5
Friday 5/29 = ECF Game 5
Saturday 5/30 = WCF Game 6
Sunday 5/31 = ECF Game 6
Monday 6/1 = WCF Game 7
Tuesday 6/2 = ECF Game 7

Also

Not sure how the scheduling is going to work with a June 5th start date and a June 15th end date.

Game 1 = June 5
Game 2 = June 7
Game 3 = June 9
Game 4 = June 11
Game 5 = June 13
Game 6 = June 15
Game 7 = ?????

Basically, the NHL is going to have BACK-TO-BACK games if they follow through on the June 15th end date, AND the series is not a sweep. I’m sure the conference champions are gonna LOVE that.

I remember reading the schedule the NHL had released for the SCF, and there were back-to-back games. I should really try to find it again.

I see

What this means is that the NHL “broke” their “promise” to end the season no later than June 15th….. but why does this not surprise me? It had been a date marked down since the beginning of the season – and now I feel like I’m hallucinating, as if that calendar date didn’t matter.

I really don’t give a rip about the date itself – just the fact that the NHL is seemingly incompetent enough to have to change the date. I actually base my travels around the end of the Stanley Cup Finals, and I booked my upcoming trip thinking I would only miss Game 7, should it come to that = now I will miss Game 6 AND 7. If this were the Sharks, and I booked a trip starting on June 16th, I would be MIGHTY pissed if it went to seven games under this schedule.

Yeah, it’s pretty petty of me to be bitching about something so seemingly trivial…. Angry K is not as mellow as Drunk K.

And now I’m starting to think this might be good, assuming we get a Detroit / Pittsburgh final.

If Pittsburgh sweeps, they have from Tuesday night until two Fridays later before they would play in the SCF. Detroit COULD finish on Wednesday, in which case they’d have almost the same time to recuperate, but if the series stretches on, the winner will have less time to recover before playing the 4th round.

But then there’s the argument about too much rest being a bad thing…. I’m really playing devil’s advocate with myself this morning, aren’t I?

it's hard to see the canes losing in this spot just from a historical perspective,

but tonight could be different. Lets not forget cam ward had never lost a game when his team was down in a series and yeah gave up 7 goals last game.

I think its the Hawks, because I remember some announcer saying that the Hawks and Wings go 1-2 on the powerplay in the playoffs overall.

Of course, that could have changed from when I heard it, which was like a week ago.
