Stanley Cup Final Game 2 Open Thread
Hmmm... I dropped the ball on the fanpost for Game 1. Much like the Penguins with their power plays...
Game 2 is at 5pm PST.

Detroit looked tired last night and made many mistakes
. . . except for the 4th line, and maybe Hossa. They didn’t look well-prepared, and Pit disrupted their passing effectively. Lidstrom looked fragile, while Stuart and Kronwall gave the puck away a lot. Detroit managed to keep most shots from the perimeter, and Osgood handled them. Looks like Zetterberg can still shut down Crosby.
Pittsburgh missed a great chance to jump on Wings early. If Fleury does a better job of smothering pucks, Pit centers win some faceoffs, and forwards force defensive mistakes with more dump and chase, they’ll probably get their split. I picked Pit in the poll but it’s a really close call, since Detroit has just as much room for improvement. Just hope that the officiating stays this good.

yeah, "shut down" is a little strong
but Crosby is a monster and Zetterberg did a pretty good job

4 games in 6 days looms larger
Detroit’s not playing Chicago anymore. Won’t win this series with one hand tied behind their backs.
Well, unless Osgood and the Joe Louis boards keep helping out.

I had forgotten you could play pinball off those things. SJ’s boards are nowhere near as lively.

I'm here!
Missed yesterday because of senior ball, but I did convince my dad to text me updates of the game, so I at least have that. And I was able to amuse myself for 10 minutes while waiting to get in by telling my friend that “one third of Joe Thornton scored for Detroit,” and then watch her try to figure it out (“Who is number 6 on Detroit? But six isn’t exactly a third of nineteen! Or do you mean someone that is really short, like Tootoo? Or Ott? But they’re not on the Wings. ANNNN, tell me what you mean!!”).
But yeah. I’m watching tonight. Go Pens.

by DetroiterInNorCal on May 31, 2009 8:54 PM PDT up reply actions
I'm getting fed up with the interference from both sides
Is anyone else annoyed by this? Both teams dump the puck in and then the opposing teams defenders are practically pushing the guy chasing back towards the blueline. It’s entirely ludicrous. It feels to me like it’s been more of an issue with the Red Wings, but that could be my bias, but there’s no doubt that both teams have been doing way too much of it. There’s also been quite a bit of what I believe should be called holding, but that hasn’t been as annoying, since it affected both the offense and defense about the same.
I realize the refs don’t want to call a huge number of penalties, but with the amount of interference going on currently, you practically need a stroke of good luck to get the puck into the offensive zone. That really shouldn’t be the case.
