Is this source reliable?

Because at Bleacher Report anyone could write articles. Also this was written yesterday and I haven’t seen it anywhere else.

Plank and I just discussed this...

But they were talking about it on the boards at WTC… so who knows.

Lotsa rumors swirling in the past couples days

so we’ll see how credible this one is. It’d about 1 M more then I wanted to spend and 1 year longer then I would’ve liked, but I’d rather keep him then lose him.

Hell

just throw me in that pic too.

Matter of fact, can I request a Hoover original representation of that night at the party?

Me, you, Plank, Robin, Jackie (that’s my gf, if you didn’t rememver), Brandon, hell, throw Morti in there, K… I’d pay you for your time… would Andrew Jackson and his buddy Abe Lincoln get the job done?

It’d be really cool!

can you capture the magic that was that evening in a drawing? It would be a like photo; a hint of what was, but never fully capturing the majesty.

That said, I can give it a shot, but I’ll warn you, caricature isn’t my strong suit. Unless it’s of me, but it’s easy to make fun of yourself.

Seems unlikely...

Would DW really want to be on the hook for 9M if Blake gets hurt or retires? Maybe 4.5M over 2 years… but I’ll put 1000 FTF dollars down and say that this rumor stays a rumor if the numbers are as advertised.

If this signing info is correct...

there is no way we can afford to make that deal. Cheechoo will most likely have to be moved for pics and salary relief.

Wow x2

Just reading through the comments, they really really want Cheech. I don’t want Rozsival (yet another highly-paid defenseman on our already highly-paid defensive corps), but I’d gladly take a second rounder + prospect (no goalies, please). Hell, even third rounder + prospect would be more than I expect.

I really, really, really doubt this is true.

First of all, its been on Bleacher Report for how long? Two, three days? And yet no other media outlet has picked it up. I know Blake is going to hit 40 next year, but you’d think there would be at least some small mention by TSN or somebody.

Second, $4.5M per year for two years? He was good, but not that good. Especially with his insistence on getting at least one interference/hooking penalty per game. Like others said, if its $4.5M over two years (cap hit $2.25M), then that is awesome. Its still risky to give a 40 year old guy a multi-year contract (since if he retires the cap hit stays), but Blake still has the skills and the pay cut is great and will work well with the cap troubles.

If its true, my opinion of DW goes way down, unless he comes up with some miracle way to make it work. But it will take a miracle.

I’ve personally confirmed and listed it on my trustworthy site: http://www.espn.net/

And my name is not Garrioch. (But I am a man.)

by Swift Kick in the Goc on Jun 15, 2009 1:15 PM PDT up reply actions

If this goes down I might lose faith in Wilson’s abilities as a GM.

$4.5M over the next two years limits his ability to improve the team this offseason, as well as throwing a huge curveball in the plans (read: my plans) to re-sign the multitude of free agents we have next season. Setoguchi, Pavelski, and Marleau being the notable ones.

Coupled with the fact that the cap is rumored to come down a year from now, and I’m going to be livid. Let’s hope this Bleacher Report is from the cheap seats*.

If they just stated it was a rumor, I wouldn’t mind so much, but the level of certainty they write with while having no hard data shows a lack of professionalism.

However, I do not believe the money. This source seems unreliable, I said it many times already, but he reported that Robert Esche was garnering interest from NHL teams, so I will take it with a grain of salt.
