Around SBN: Missouri Survives Scare, Louisville And Marquette Roll

New Minnesota Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher has wasted no time putting his stamp on the team by hiring Todd Richards as the Wild's new head coach.

The 43-year old Richards spent last season as an assistant for the San Jose Sharks under Todd McLellan.

Thanks for the news, Swisher

Hopefully he’ll do well, except when they play the Sharks. ;)

Thanks, Swisher

I’m sad that he’s leaving (since I actually liked him), but I hope he does well in Minnesota, except against the Sharks of course.

Now, who’s going to replace him as assistant coach? Ricci? Or maybe JR will retire and take a place behind the bench, lol.

Wait, is this confirmed?

It could be a “trap!”

Sorry, what with it being Minnesota I had to throw that in there.

At least the Wild won’t be so boring to play against- they’ve mentioned before that they want to take the organization in a different direction, and with Richards on board I doubt we’ll see any more Admiral Ackbar in good ol’ Minn-e-sota.

Good luck next year Todd.

Congrats to Todd

The Wild have a good base of talent, they’ve struggled though cause Lemaire’s style hampered the development of some of their top offensive talents (imo). They have Backstrom inked and the $$ with Gaborik (probably) off their books, and now they have a young, offensive-minded coach in Richards. I fully expect they’ll challenge for the NW next year. It’s crazy to think that the only team in the NW who doesn’t really have a chance to win the division next year is Colorado. Gah, the West is so stacked in every division.

Look at the pacific this coming year

unless doug wilson shoves an m80 up our roster’s posterior Islanders style, I see no threat to the Sharks’ hanging up another worthless division banner EXCEPT in the case of Jonas Hiller playing like he did in the 1st round all regular season in 09-10’ AND Doug Wilson placing an even smaller explosive in the roster’s unmentionables. We are by far in the race for the weakest division in hockey. The Southeast definitely is making the case for only second worse.

Also, what this has to do with mini-Todd grabbing a head coaching gig in Jason’s home state. I have no idea. I think I’m commenting on the wrong article. Also, thresher needs to me made staff simply because of the seals logo.

As for next Pacific next season being the worst division in hockey, I wouldn’t go that far. Dallas is still a good team, and if it wasn’t for all their injuries last year (along with Marty Turco having the worst season in his career) they would have been a contender to do some damage. Anaheim is deep as hell defensively, and even if Hiller falters playing 60+ games, they have Giguere. Phoenix will likely be terrible. Los Angeles is kinda scary- obviously it’s unlikely they will be competing for a division title, but if they can get solid goaltending and land a high profile free agent with all the salary room they have, it’s possible they sneak into a lower seeded playoff berth.

Last year was terrible though, and who knows what the rosters look like three months ago. Is it poor form to hope the Division race is tight next season? We had it in the bag by freaking December.

Sa la vie, off to my summer job. What a terrible hour to be up.

Yeah being up this early sucks.

The Yotes may be terrible next season, but I still won’t feel good about playing them. They always seem to give us all kinds of trouble.

As long as Doan is on the Yotes...

I won’t feel too good about playing them.

I second this.

And Plank, at least you have a job (congrats on that), but yeah, that is a terrible time to be awake.
