OFF TOPIC: 4th of July
My fellow Americans, and ex-pats of various nations who like to watch things explode into pretty colors in the sky, I need you help.
Our nation's Independence Day fast approaches and I find myself unaware of the best spots in the South Bay to watch the stars explode. Normally, we attend a rather unique 4th celebration in the City, but our usual host is in Europe and we need a new venue. Where are the recommended sites, or is TV our best bet?
I know downtown SJ does a big party, but I prefer viewing locations that don't require a day long commitment to lawn sitting and port-o-pots.
Suggestions?

I know it sounds wierd
But as a last resort, try the parking lot of that new Target down there by Coleman and 87. You’ll want to park down by the train tracks all the way down near Trader Joes but you can see most of the fireworks from the event downtown that you’re talking about………..we did it a few years ago.
Did you all know I’m getting married next weekend?

Don’t pull a Dave and put on the bride’s dress. Unless you’re a woman. In that case go right ahead.
Congrats!

I always go to the San Jose Giants game, they do a pretty great show. That, or Willow Glen is very central, so I just sit on my roof.

Well, my neighbors are pretty cool and have permits to set off fireworks (and I mean the air kind, not the ones that stay on the ground), so I usually just sit in my front yard and watch them. If they’re lame and don’t do it, I usually go up in the hills around Almaden and watch one of the five shows that go on.

My Uncle & his family are having a BBQ + fireworks
But I turned down the invite. I really have NO idea what, if anything, I plan to do this Saturday. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

No plans here either.
The possibility of a BBQ at a friend’s place was discussed.

You guys
are all invited out here….where fireworks and famous last words of a southern boy go hand in hand….“Hey Y’all….watch this.”
It’s still strange to watch fireworks shows in my front yard that rival those I used to see back in the People’s Republic..but strange as it seems, you can buy enough stuff at WalMart to blow up a small town. I’m still taken aback when I pass a gas station with a huge FIREWORKS trailer in the parking lot. Enough to cause cardiac arrest for a Fire Marshal in California.
We’ll be inside, watching the race, and comforting those rescue dogs that can’t understand why the world is exploding outside our door.

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY
I think I’m going to go grab a cold corona and lie out in the sun, with my laptop nearby so I can listen to an old Sharks game. Still don’t know what I’m going to do later this evening. I had the option of going to Stockton, but I don’t want to venture down Highway 12 (and hell, fireworks are not always ‘fireworks’ in Stockton)

Happy 4th, All
I made my other half sick, so it looks like we’re chillin’ homeside. I’ve got chicken preparing itself for the grill and I plan to make margaritas, even if end up drinking the whole pitcher myself (and I make them STRONG).
I’m sure my neighbors will be out blowing stuff up the minute there’s a hint of darkness in the sky.
Hope you all have fun whatever you end up doing.
