Penns get their breaks tonight
The odds have to be with them.
Of course, Detroit will resume the heartbreak in win game 4.

I’m thinking Wings win tonight … Pens go into desperate mode and win game 4 & 5, Wings take game 6. And my prediction is all good with Wings in 6. :)

Not sure I can fully agree with that
My suspicion is that the back-to-back games in Detroit would tip things toward Pittsburgh, and that the NHL knew this, esp. given that Lidstrom and Datsyuk were out (at the time).
Detroit or Pittsburgh winning is good for the NHL (as opposed to “good for hockey”) but they want Crosby to be The Next One, and for that to happen, he has to win the Cup.
Fear The Fin = We're not as think as you drunk we are.
bwahahahahhaha
I’m sorry, I just love how there is no consensus on who the NHL’s dream team is. A bunch of folks swear up and down it’s the Pens, mostly because of Crosby, and others swears it’s the perennially challenging Wings.
it’s a CONSPIRACY!!!!!!!!!!

Just think how pissed you'd be

Larger life transitions
I’m biased here, but after 6 years in elementary school, I’d say moving on to junior high is a big life transition. I had 7 years myself (my 6th grade was at a grammar school), but 6 is still more than any other period of life.
College and high school are huge too – junior high, meh.
Fear The Fin = We're not as think as you drunk we are.
high school is a big deal … it’s more than just high school they are graduating from, but the transition to adulthood. college is of course a big deal, real life hits you then. all the rest, more for the touchy feely parents than anything else.
Ever get the feeling we are on a collision course with reality?
by ang6666 on Jun 2, 2009 11:57 AM PDT up reply actions
I meant the 3rd grade one
When I moved from elementary school to middle school, I don’t recall a big to-do. I remember them bringing a 6th grader back to talk about the changes, and I think we had some big orientation before 6th started at our middle school(junior high).
8th grade we had “promotion” which was universally regarded as lame and a chance to hang out with friends. I think it also had a dance. You can see it was important enough to leave a lasting impression.
I don’t think a ceremony is necessary until one transitions to adulthood and then the “real world”, but that’s just me. (and Ang! :D)
resident cartoonist @couchtarts.blogspot.com. Endorsed by Mr. K on "CINCODEMYOOR!!!!!"
to clarify
the 3rd graders (now 5th) moving on reminded me of kindergarten grads and I have heard of 1ts and 2nd grade ones too. It seems like way too much.
resident cartoonist @couchtarts.blogspot.com. Endorsed by Mr. K on "CINCODEMYOOR!!!!!"
Ah
Then I see where you’re coming from – we don’t do 3rd grade graduations or the like, just the 5th grade one. Sure, it’s for the parents – but it’s also symbolic of the transition to the teenage years and everything that goes with it.
To clarify – my students from two years ago were my first 3rd grade class, and NOW they’re graduating. I’d be a dick to not show up (even though it’s only required of the 5th grade teachers).
Fear The Fin = We're not as think as you drunk we are.
ah but remember … I have a black heart … you sure you want to be lumped in with me ? :)

I get enough art history in English and French. If I have to learn about Picasso’s Guernica one more time, I swear I’m going to scream.

resident cartoonist @couchtarts.blogspot.com. Endorsed by Mr. K on "CINCODEMYOOR!!!!!"
Taking AP Lit and reading My Name is Asher Lev tends to lead into art history discussion (the titular character had to memorize Guernica as part of his art studies).

Ahh
yeah, that didn’t happen in my classes too often. I always seemed to be in classes where no one read so we had to rehash the whole damn thing each time it was brought up for discussion.
resident cartoonist @couchtarts.blogspot.com. Endorsed by Mr. K on "CINCODEMYOOR!!!!!"
Since its a senior AP class, it tends to mean that everyone wants to do really well and go to Cal and stuff, so everyone reads the books on time. So there’s very little summarizing the book, more looking at themes and symbols and “meaning of the work as a whole” type of thing.

Y’know, the Sharks should really get a regular anthem singer, rather than having random people (like the sax player) sing each night. And maybe more times when the crowd sings the anthem – that’s always great to watch and be a part of.
