Sharks On the East Coast-A teenager's Sharks History
Steve Shields
We all know him.....MR. Owen Nolan!!
As a teenage, die-hard Sharks fan, the east coast is not the optimal spot for me to be living. First of all, the hockey season occurs during the school year, which, therefore presents a problem being that I have to get up early in the morning (6 AM Eastern, 3 for you guys by the Bay). So, usually, I have late nights during the season but I see it as a small sacrifice for my favorite team. I remember first hearing of the Sharks when I was in 1st grade and became a fan from being an avid learner of real sharks. However, once I started following the San Jose Sharks, I started loving the team.
I remember Nabby's rookie year and how great he was (Steve Shields was actually my first favorite Shark because I thought he had a cool name because we both shared the same first name). I remember how much I loved Owen Nolan and how great he was in my first hockey game- Sharks @ Devils on Sunday, February 13, 2001. Our guys lost 3-1 and Niklas Sundstrom (remember him?) scored our only goal. I was upset my guys lost, but I knew I was hooked on the Sharks for life.
Listening to the Sharks didn't start to occur on a regular basis for me until like two or three years ago. I'd have to say
I think Jamie Baker is the man because he gives the listeners everything, hockey-wise, that we need to know. I'm excited to actually SEE them play this year (I'm getting CenterIce from Directv). And, they come East to play the Islanders AND Rangers so I get to see two games which I am very excited for.
I know I don't get to see them as often as I would prefer, but, listening to them, even though I'm not seeing the action, keeps me connected to everything that's going on. My favorite Shark is Nabby only because I feel like I've known him my entire time of being a Sharks fanatic but I also do love Joe Pavelski, Joe Thornton, Ryane Clowe, and Dan Boyle.
Any comments would be appreciated because I'd like to stay as much in touch with the Sharks central fan base as possible. Ducks and Wings SUCK!!! Go SHARKS!!!!!

Interesting post.
I have always wondered what it would be like to be a fan of the Sharks on the opposite coast, and it seems hard. But it sounds totally worth it! Kind of related to Steve Shields, but when he got traded, I was DEVESTATED not only because he was one of my favorites, but Jeff Friesen was traded as well. It was soul crushing for a then first grader.

It’s certainly not very easy. I too have Center Ice and watch every game. Once the season starts I pretty much go into vampire mode; sleeping during the day and up most of the night with a game.

Shark fan from Winnipeg!
I really want the Jets back so I don’t have to go to Minnesota to watch games all the time.
I moved out here for college over 10 years ago. Really all you can do if you have a life is buy the center ice package, watch a period or so, and then finish the game off the dvr.
I get weird looks when I say I’m a Sharks fan. The first thought is that you grew up in California, why would you like hockey….
