Link Rats: The Inaugural Post

It's party time!
Welcome one welcome all to Fear The Fin's first edition of Link Rats. It's clever as hell because I replaced "rink" with "link" in the phrase "rink rats." Get it? Cause' we're working all day finding hockey links instead of working on our game at the hockey rink?
Anyways, here's what we got in store for you today:
- Joe Pavelski helps a family coping with the loss of their father. Looks like that playhouse we saw intermittently throughout the year finally found an owner. Touching stuff.
- As most of you know already, Captain Elbows signed a seven year contract with Philadelphia. He's not 35 yet, so if he retires before the end of his contract the Flyers won't be on the hook for his salary cap hit. Right? Uh oh spaghettios, not so fast Philly.
- Side note: With all the legal issues surrounding the NHL this offseason, it's high time someone rings John Grisham.
- Sakic or Yzerman- who ya got? I'm going with number 19. Final answer.
- Kurtis Foster signs with the Tampa Bay Lightning, presumably to avoid playing against Torrey Mitchell more than once next season.
- Sandis Ozolinsh is making a comeback. Here's the only known tape of him playing defense, for anyone interested.
- The Razor hits the nail on the head in regards to Michael Jackson's funeral coverage. One of the many reasons he's the best in the biz.
- Alexei Kovalev will try and convince Dany Heatley to stay in Ottawa. Ten bucks Kovy schedules a meeting and decides not to show up.
- Saku Koivu signs with those quacks down the road. One of the reasons he chose Anaheim was because he didn't want to fight for ice time with his brother. Obviously the Ducks are going to have no heart next season. Also, Smokin' Sergei Zhubov is not likely to return to Dallas.
- Burnaby Joe deserves two links this morning. Top Ten Things TSN loves about one of the greatest players of all time.
- Scratch that, we're making it three. How do ya like dem' apples?
- In San Jose news, the Sharkzzzzzzz....
- OT: The weirdest thing you'll watch all day.
Go (tohell!) Offseason.

Heres some legit Shark-related news!
So, remember Mr. Whinyfloatsalot, aka Lukas Kaspar? So he originally planned to go to Dinamo Riga, a Latvian hockey club in the KHL, and had a verbal agreement to do so (Sanis Ozolinsh reportedly has joined the club as well). Apparently, the Flyers offered him a one-way contract to play in the NHL (which was all he wanted), and so it looks like he’s going to be joining Boucher, Carle, and Pronger. Nothing official yet, but still. I don’t think Philly knows his whiny, floating tendencies.

Stuck
I think DW is stuck with players that other teams don’t want..I know DW well enough to know that he wouldn’t make these statements about a long and difficult summer and that there would be major changes, if he didn’t believe that himself..
I just think he didn’t take into account that other teams really don’t want his players for market value..I think other teams saw his desperation to make changes and are offering him peanuts for his players..
I also think other teams would like to Sharks to stay the way they are..They have been exposed as no real threat to be an upper echelon team(I haven’t forgotten the Presidents trophy based on 47 near all time record games, then .500 and a typical first round exit)..
We stay the same while others get better..it looks like Chicago, Detroit, Calgary(they made some excellent moves), are all better than the Sharks, so its fighting for the middle of the pack for the Sharks now..
We are stuck until the contracts of Marleau and Thornton
expire..These two nices guys are the very worst leaders you could ever imagine..Boyle is the only guy on the team with any gonads, along with Murray..
If this was figure skating we would be right there..

First of all, since you clearly cannot read … that is Ang with 4 (count them 1, 2, 3, 4) 6s. Not three.
Secondly, the Sharks are a great team. They played tremendously this year. With Marleau and Thornton.
Thirdly, blaming those two for the loss to the Ducks in the playoffs is not even giving credit to how the Ducks played at all. Who nearly made it to the third round against the Wings.
So you may choose to be all negative against the Sharks, the DW, a couple players – I support them fully and the decisions they make. We are fans, but they breathe hockey every fucking second. It is who they are and they know what they are doing.
GO SHARKS!

Today’s hint of what’s to come: Look for the Sharks to acquire someone to fill the role of fourth-line center as early as Friday, no later than early next week. The goal is to bring in someone with a much grittier style of play than Marcel Goc or Tomas Plihal. Let the speculation begin.

Hmmm. Does that mean JR is out of the fold? It seems like DW is keeping him at arms length this offseason, because Roenick said he would have a decision, “two weeks from now” around the NHL Awards Show.
Anyways, here’s the list of free agents. Let the speculation begin indeed.
Pssst. Rissmiller is on that list ;)

I would think that DW would be looking at trades more than free agency, like Cheechoo for a fourth line C plus draft picks. Especially since San Jose has this anti-free agent aura around it.
Oh, and as for the JR thing – maybe they’re talking with him to see if he wants to be an assistant coach this season. I mean, you never know.

Hey, any goal against Turco is a sweet goal in my book.
And will do. Its not like I have anything else to do this summer (just don’t tell my mom that, because then she’ll make me get a job).

In retrospect, I’m probably building this up way too much. It will be cool though.

The Stockton Thunder
reported today they once again enter a 1yr affiliation agreement with the Edmonton Oilers., for the 2009-10 campaign.
I was hoping the Sharks might look to spoil the Oil’s attempt to renew by stepping in and purchasing the team from Michael Reinsdorf that would allow them to have an affiliate only an hour+ drive away – which would also complete the Sharks trifecta (renaming the team the Stockton Sharks and changing their colors to teal/silver). Aw bugger all.
I’ve grown to love and hate the Edmonton affiliation. I’m sure most ‘AA’ fans across the League would say the same about the parent club, which so often giveth and then taketh away (since the perception is individual prospects > team success). Time to check the Oil prospect pool and training camp news to speculate about who may soon don the Stockton sweater

I applaud your blind loyalty..If they were a great team, they would have success in the playoffs..I guess your idea of what great is, is vastly different than mine..
I will definitely agree with you they played great for 47 games and then mediocre for the last 35, then the playoff exit..
Yes, the Ducks are a very good team, but if the Sharks were great, they would have beaten the Ducks..
Actually I said that Thornton and Marleau are not good leaders..They are very good players, but I don’t think they
have the natural fire or strong personalities to be leaders..
I think they are both too soft spoken and reserved to be
the leaders of this team..I do think along with Boyle, they
are the best players, no doubt about that, but that doesn’t
make them good leaders..
I am also a Sharks fan and want them desperately to get
better and maybe one day contend for a championship..I
just show my passion in a different way..
I do respect how you feel about the team..Fans that support the team no matter what, are awesome fans..

So
You’re pretty clearly a fucking moron. Like, painfully so.
You can’t figure out how to reply despite repeated advice, which makes you a moron.
You can’t put together a cogent argument, which makes you a moron.
You can’t take a fucking hint, which makes you a moron.
You attack respected members here with no cause, which makes you a douche.
What do you think would happen if you did this on the street? If you introduced yourself this way, what would happen? You’d get your teeth knocked in.
FUCK OFF.
Plank, Cheech, K, sorry. Shoot me an email if I’ve crossed lines, I’m just sick of this douche.
