Patrick Marleau
Just cause…. I feel like it. As I said before, I am fully qualified to make this decision, therefore the captaincy goes to Patrick Marleau.

it’s crazy to remember how young our franchise is. Only 6 people have been captain for any reasonable length of time!

Danny Boyle
I’m mixed on the whole “C” drama – I think a leader will arise no matter what he has on his sweater. It could be someone like Marleau or some guy from Woosta who’s playing in his first NHL game. I have no idea what goes on in the locker room (sigh) but I hope the captain will be someone who supports his players when they need it, isn’t afraid to tell the truth to his teammates and call them on their shit if need be.

Interesting
It looks like it’s strictly a four horse race between Marleau, Thornton, Pavelski and Boyle as all 50 votes to date have been divvied among the aforementioned quartet.

can someone say why they are voting for thornton?

seems kind of obvious
has pretty much been HIS team since he got here. Just seemed like an awkward situation that he wasn’t captain before. although at the same time i wouldnt have any beef with Patty remaining captain, or Boyle or Pav getting it.

and yet...
Thornton hasnt had good experiences having the captaincy nor has he shown the desire to have that mantle (he bolted after the final game of the Anaheim series). I dont blame him, he was disappointed, thats not a character flaw in the slightest, he didnt want to talk to reporters fine, however, a captain MUST talk to the press, especially when something of that magnitude happens. I think thats a big reason why alot of people are clamoring for Boyle…he wanted/did talk to the press following that debacle.

leader?
Big Joe is a playmaker but that does not make him a leader.
Patty and Boyle, little Joe and even a guy like Mitchell put in the effort and energy that dictates play, but they still aren’t leaders. Nabbie is a ridiculous suggestion because a moody, self absorbed player can be a central part of your team, but not your leader. I don’t think that San Jose has a leader to be captain.
That all said, I think Marleau is the most qualified option available for now.

Well,
Fans picking the Captain is really on bias. We don’t know who’s a good leader or not.

I voted for Boyle, but whatever the team comes up with is fine by me. It’s a locker room issue in my opinion.

When I defended Patrick Marleau as a captain (saying that <— sounded really cool) I said, “If the team picks the captain, he must be a good one.” Same thing applies now I believe.

I voted for Pavs
I’m not sure he’s ready, but for some reason I get the impression that Boyle would be a more of a stop-gap type captain, not a long term leader for the team to help push into the future.

Boyle can lead us now
and in the future – we have him locked up for a while and we can bring up a player like Pavelski a little slower.
Oh, so that's where you edit your signature

Boyle can certainly lead us now
But I’m more worried about the future, he’s 33 already, and not everyone can play very well into their late 30s

So as it stands right now, with 87 total votes:
- 1 vote for ‘Other’
- 1 vote for Clowe
- 11 votes for Thornton
- 14 votes for Marleau
- 22 votes for Pavelski
- 38 votes for Boyle

Let this be the Sharks Redeem Team
Let Marleau earn the C back. I know a lot of people are angry and impatient here, I can admit I’m still pretty pissed about losing to the Ducks in 6 too. But I can’t blame it all on one guy, whether it is Marleau, or Nabokov, or Thornton or whoever. This team is good enough to win and if any tinkering is needed it is only minor.
Maybe this team is mad enough to win now. Maybe big changes for the sake of change aren’t necessary. In any event, lets not forget that Marleau has been a good player, loyal to the team and good to the city. Yzerman and the Wings went through this before they became yearly stanley cup hopefuls, maybe Marleau deserves one more year to see if he is the next Yzerman. Something to consider anyway…
Ozolinsh should have shot the damn puck, and Cheechoo should have hit Korolyuk's pass out of the air... but they'll get there.
