Looks like Staubitz comes in at about $500,000, which is perfect.

Pollak also discusses the Vancouver deal and the Kessel buzz.

I like that he addressed the Kessel buzz

Sounds like it might go through for draft picks – although he’ll be out until the end of the year with his injury.

Jeepers, when it rains it pours

A few signings and a trade in the last few days are starting to make up for the summer of no news. Interesting about the 2nd round pick if we don’t like White, that takes a little of the sting out, I guess. Also interesting about the draft picks for Kessel. I would be for that, although our farm system would probably take a hit unless DW gets some pics from a Cheech to Minn. deal.

The Picks would be San Jose's own

and would cost them based on the RFA stipulations. So we can’t trade a pick that we recieve in that scenario.

However, we could still trade for Kessel’s rights, and then sign him. I’d rather that happen.

now I'm inspired

to say “ZOIKS” hoping to earn points as clearly I have nothing else to offer.

I like what Staubitz brings when he hits the ice, he’s got an edge and seems fearless so far.

I'll drink that! oh...I'll drink TO that.

A bit off-topic but...

I found this interesting article on Ron Wilson talking about the Sharks first-round elimination. Interesting that a part of him was rooting AGAINST the Sharks…

Staubitz

I’m assuming Staubitz’s contract is with Worcester? Personally, I loved the energy he brought to San Jose during his brief tenure at HP last season-I hope to see a lot more of him this season.

by OtherKid on Aug 31, 2009 2:40 PM PDT reply actions

I would think its a two-way contract, to give the Sharks a bit more salary flexibility.

Probably 2 way...

But I think he starts the year with the team. I think it’s pretty definite he’ll be lining up on the fourth line come October.

I know I’ve said this before, but good God that fourth line has the potential to be a big time penalty fest with very little size. I’d be a little concerned if that’s the route DW goes.

Ryan Clowe

Clowe’s first stint with the big club saw him pretty much playing enforcer. I don’t think we’ve had a discussion about the second line in the past year that hasn’t assumed he’d be on the wing.

I don’t know too much about Staubitz, but who knows, maybe he’s got some hands we don’t know about. Although i’m sure Jordin Tootoo knows a thing or two or twenty about his hands.

Although i’m sure Jordin Tootoo knows a thing or two or twenty about his hands.

Haha, hell yes.

As for his goal scoring hands, observation from last year and a look at his career statistics look like he’s probably going to be a career high five goal scorer.

Any chance

Staubitz goes back to D? Does anyone know if they converted him because he wasn’t big/tough enough for D? If he can be a utility player in a 7th Dman lineup, could be useful, especially since we’re going to be relying A LOT on the top 4, and Huskins might be a question mark as he missed a lot of time?

Maybe in a pinch, but they’ve been trying to convert him for a while, and I don’t think they’d give up.

To be fair, he was a defenseman for most of his career.

And I honestly did not know he was an Ottawa 67. Now I know why he was drafted.

Do you think he’s going to put up more than that? I really don’t think he’ll ever sniff 10 goals, especially in the role he’s going to play in San Jose.

I really, really doubt it. But the whole “used to be a defenseman” thing does partially explain his low point totals.

Drafted?

We never drafted Staubitz, he was a free agent signing last year.

My mistake. But the joke about Wilson’s obsession with players on the 67s stands.

67's

Yeah, we seem to have an abundance of his old juniors team in our system, but at least we didn’t draft any high recently.

by Evilducks on Sep 1, 2009 11:53 AM PDT up reply actions

I was really surprised this past draft that not one 67 was drafted. But then a German was drafted with the last pick, which made up for it.*

*Honestly, I think around 75% of the NHLers playing for Team Germany in the Olympics have been drafted by the Sharks.

I don't remember much of Clowe's first stint but...

I can tell you Staubitz does NOT have hands. He’s a converted D-man. Also look at his career stats.

Watch. Staubitz is going to score a bunch of goals now, just to make me look bad.
