Ron Wilson on the Sharks' Playoff Exit
"I can't say I was rooting against them, although there was a part of me that was," said Wilson, who watched each game of the series on TV. "To be perfectly honest with you, though, I did feel good when they failed miserably in the playoffs."
Interesting.

Yeah … not much else you can add to that. (shrugs)

Ron Wilson knows a thing or two about miserable playoffs
When Ron Wilson wins something I’ll care about his opinion.

Yeah, I felt a little bad for him when he was fired. Not anymore. Ron Wilson can suck it.

why did you feel bad?
All the playoffs failures weren’t solely his fault, but for him to talk like it had nothing to do with him personally is ridiculous. His lacksidasical, disinterested attitude towards his role as a head coach came out in spades through his team’s results.
RW does a good job getting the most out of players, but he’s a pretty mediocre head coach when it comes to championship-required leadership.

I feel bad whenever anybody is fired or let go, including head coaches that have beefs with one of my favorite players. It’s a curse.

This could be why
His Washington Capitals got swept by Detroit in the Cup Finals….
By the same token, he DID manage to take them there.

Nice to meet you Mr. Dickface.
For the record, I laughed at you coaching a non-playoff team.

Careful TCY
Toronto is really shaping up to make it to the playoffs this year, even if it’ll be a 7 or 8 seed at best.

So I can’t laugh at him for last year since they “might” make the playoffs next year?
RW can suck it, even if they do make the playoffs.

I don't fancy myself a Ron Wilson apologist
But I do see his point of view = if SJ won the Cup, or at least got out of the second round, it would make his role in our failures seem magnified.

Fine, ok, he got a ton of blame. But there are a million of coaches out there who get run out of town and don’t say they were glad when their former team lost.
This is straight classless.

What did the reporter ask him?
I suspect it was something along the lines of, “Were you happy the Sharks lost? Did you feel like it was a form of redemption?” I suppose some coaches would decline to say what he felt.
By the way, we generally commend J.R. for being such a straight-shooter. I love it when he shoots himself in the foot his mouth off. Why the fuss when a coach speaks his mind?
For the record, I’m playing Devil’s Advocate with ya, Matt.

You are not allowed to play Devil’s Advocate when it goes against supporting the Sharks. Don’t you know that! (and I’m being deadly serious here dude!)
As has been said, classless. And I"ll add prick to that. grrr!

Hello Devil's Advocate
Can’t you just let us hate him — a little????

Also
Ron Wilson even said (albeit controversially) that the team wouldn’t make it to the playoffs the first year he was coaching. That might sound like a cop-out, but I think it was pretty accurate given his circumstances (read – roster).

“The worst thing in the world as a coach is to be led to believe it’s your fault (when a team fails). You’re the one who totally effed it up. I never felt that way in San Jose but, when everybody is telling you that you did or implying that it’s your fault, it does shake you up a bit. It takes a long time to get over that.”
He’s got a point – and obviously I love the “effed it up” part.

I don’t think everyone said it was his fault, but the team needed a change. Get over yourself, man.
Best Whiny Voice: AWwwWWwww, Mom! They told my it was my fault but it wasnnnnnnnnnnnn’t! Even though it kinda waaaaaaaaaas. Waaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Except the fans in SJ gave him a standing ovation when he returned with the Leafs this year, which doesn’t happen every day. And then he turns around and talks to a reporter about how he was glad that the Sharks lost badly? That’s a dickish move, I don’t care how badly he felt.

I get his point of view
He was kinda run out of town and told not to let the door hit him on the way out. This series WAS a bit of vindication for him. A bit. Very small bit. Whether he can get the Leafs back into the playoffs next year after the rebuild would be better.
I’m sure it’s not very nice to say the team failed miserably in the playoffs, but well, they did. If you’re not on the team, I guess you can say whatever you want. He did, after all, get us to the second round on occasion, and has a World Cup to his credit.

I wouldn’t really say he was rudely run out of town. How else do you fire a person?

There's no right way to eat a rhesus
Yeah, no nice way of breaking the news. Still, the general sentiment when he left seemed to be “good riddance.” Ron certainly had his flaws, but once upon a time, after Darryl Sutter left, this team was a bit adrift, and Ron Wilson turned things around, and freed up some of our young skill guys to become stars.

I like his honesty
When a boy/girl friend dumps you and then you hear that they’re sad and alone or doing poorly, you can’t but feel a bit better about yourself. I’m not saying that it’s right to feel that way, just human.
Nope … never has happened to me to feel that way. Things happen in life … and to hold on to “hate” like that, even a little bit, just makes you … well nevermind. (shrugs) I don’t have that reaction tho. Perhaps I’m not human. :)

I know he is just being honest, but come on, show some professionalism, Ron. In the interview he thinks he was not the problem, I somewhat laughed.
