Heatley for Michalek, Cheechoo and a second round pick

It’s official:

Sharks get Dany Heatley and a 5th round draft pick.

Ottawa gets Milan Michalek, Jonathan Cheechoo and a 2nd round draft pick.

Chicago not involved.

This trade doesn’t make much sense, at all. Aren’t all three teams seemingly over or right up to the salary cap?

FANTASTIC TRADE!

Dany Heatley is a proven 40 goal scorer, being paired with Thornton and Seto is going to be a killer line. Marleau can pivot the 2nd line. I’m so glad we found a way to keep Marleau. Michalek was gradually getting better but he’s still kind of a softie when it comes playoff time. He did toughen up a tiny bit last year but Heatley is an upgrade over him, and we still have Clowe too. Getting rid of Cheechoo’s contract is nice too.

Got to give props to Doug Wilson for waiting this thing out all summer. Had we tried to strike months ago, we might have had to give up a lot more. With the way Ottawa was stuck with Heatley heading into the season they had to drop their price I’m guessing. Also I’d much rather get a proven player like Heatley than Kessel. Kessel has a load of talent, but he might not be worth the 5 mill plus just yet.
