Mathieu Dandenault invited to camp
The article is in French, but basically it's saying that Dandenault was invited to try out at camp. Last year he played as both a forward and defenseman for the the Canadiens (look, a French-Canadian Semenov!), recording 4 goals and 8 assists.

Ah yes, gotta love me some ex-Wings.
Seriously though, I think Ehrhoff might be better defensively than Dandenault. I’m not kidding.

Eh, he’s just a tryout. I honestly don’t see any problem inviting guys to create some more competition in camp.

Never said I had a problem with inviting guys to camp to create competition. Just saying that this specific guy is not very good defensively.

Very true — Dandenault is actually kind of famous in Anaheim history for an extremely lazy play in the first round of the 2003 playoffs. Adam Oates (probably twice Dandenault’s age) made the kid look like a chump, out-hustling and out-smarting him to a delayed-penalty puck, and before anybody knew it, the Ducks had tied the game.
Yeah, that was one play half a decade ago, but it still makes me smile. Thanks, Matty!

Ehrhoff has a longer wikipedia page,
therefore Ehrhoff > Dandenault.
(look, a French-Canadian Semenov!)
I think you’re right mymclife. Semmy’s wiki page is almost the same lenght as Dandenault without all of his stats, therefore Dandenault = Semenov. Woohoo for (downgraded?) Semenov!
Anyway that’s my analysis for this situation…
Looks like Dandenault has a bit more offense than Semenov. And when I say offense, I don’t mean the putting the puck into your own net kind of offense that Semenov has perfected.

So..
Dandenault and Semenov have ups and downs and both are not too valuable, but Semenov > Dandenault because he will always have a special place in the hearts of Sharks fans?
You’re just trying to justify owning that Semenov t-shirt, idunno ;-)

If he is not as good defensively as Erhoff, maybe he goes as a full time forward? Like mymclife said earier, anything that creates competition.

Translation, if interested
I’m going to put my 3 years of French to some use =
RDS has learned that Mathieu Dandenault will turn up at the camp of the Sharks, who have offered him a chance at success.
“I am very happy to again be meeting with a team that has a good chance of winning the Stanley Cup. I negotiated with the Sharks during a good part of the summer. There are two positions available amongst defensemen and I know that I am going to have my chance. That’s why I’ve decided to join this group.”
Last year as a defenseman and as a forward with the Canadiens, he scored four goals and earned eight assists in 41 games.
The Atlanta Thrashers were also interested in Dandenault.

Dandy the Good
This player will not only make the team, he will make it better, at 33 he has not a step of his speed and he is a very responsible player.
He is cursed will the dual role that apparently perplexed former Habs coach Guy Carbonneau who played slugo Brisebois ahead of OByrne, Dandenault and others to everyones dismay. With close to a 1000 games played and three Cup rings Dandy is a solid 5-6 D with the ability to be a four is pressed their due to an injury. He has proven to be durable with no nagging injury problems ans has missed only to broken bones that always take 5 weeks to heals. The fans never turned on him and he was indeed a popular player. Look to the success of Reyder and Ribiero, to players that had trouble getting on the ice in Montral as player who have flourished in their new surrounding. Not a physical player nor a scorer, he appears to everything else needed to succeed. For a team that should have a deep playoff run he is an excellent addition, all he needs to do now is make the team.
