Interesting to see Matt Carle not make the cut. Must be Ron Wilson still harboring old hate.

Kinda a shocker that Ryan Whitney isn’t on the roster.

Whitney’s far from the most solid defenseman, but he is a notch above Jack Johnson.

Johnson is better in a shootout.

Speaking of the Olympics – I just took a look through the schedule. How fair is that – USA and Canada get to play 2 out of the 3 games against such joke of teams as Switzerland and Norway while Russia has to face Chezchs and Slovaks?

by Ivano M on Jan 1, 2010 1:52 PM PST reply actions

Glad Pavs got picked.

He is finally getting the recognition he deserves. The big surprise for me on the Olympic team was Jack Johnson making it. On PD’s live blog, someone pointed out he has NEVER finished higher than last on his team’s D in +/-. Why didn’t they go with another LA King and pick Rob Scuderi?

there were a lot of d-man I would’ve chosen over Jack Johnson – same with Chris Drury

Drury=horrible contract

but he’s still a solid player, and contracts dont matter in the Olympics

by Brian5517209 on Jan 1, 2010 2:25 PM PST up reply actions

has nothing to do with his contract – 5g, 9a and a -7 throught 35 games for a pretty mediocre team is hardly what I’d call having a solid year. I like Chris Drury and appreciate the leadership aspects he brings, but I still think they could’ve picked a more useful player.

The way i see it is that Drury is the 4th line center. He basically just needs to grind and win faceoffs. Both of which he can do.

Plus, he’s awesome in the playoffs We totally should have traded Marleau for him.

I thought Paul Gaustad wouldda been a better choice for 4th line center than Drury. He’s amazing at faceoffs, and can grind out shifts with the best of them. Ah well.

He may have been a better fit, I’m just thinking Drury does have more offensive upside. Although he’s not showing it lately.

JOE PAVELSKI!!!!

I’m on my phone at SFO right now, but had to see if he made the team or not. So happy that he did, I only wish I could have seen the game and ceremony, but oh well.
